...do NOT have her hide or look scared.

I have driven thru there many times with a chica and NEVER been stopped or asked for ID. (She has always been legal, BTW.)

But your best bet would be, if caught, to act surprised. "WHAT? You don't have a VISA/green card??? Gee, officer, I had NO IDEA!"

That act would be hard to do if she was hiding.

Oh, and BTW, they use infrared detectors to look at heat signatures, so if she is in the trunk or hiding in the back seat she more than likely will show up.

If you have a friend who could ride point for you they could go first to see if the checkpoint is being manned or not. (Actually it is ALWAYS manned, but often they don't stop all the cars.)

You could also drive across the desert on some of the back roads, but often the checkpoints there are MORE likely to stop you - IF they are being manned when you pass.

People should, of course, be aware that our government likes to use technology when they can. I would be willing to bet that cell phone frequencies are monitored near the checkpoint (so if you have a point man, use code!). I know that at the border they have listening devices they can point at your car and listen in on your conversation as you approach the border.
