TJR: The idea of women and children living with the prisoners without additional security is either visionary or a disaster waiting to happen, I can't decide which. I seem to recall that debtors' prisons in England did the same thing centuries ago. Whenever I hear reports about third world prisons it reminds me that the line between "civilization" and barbarism is almost invisible sometimes. Your description makes San Quentin (a place I am unfortunately all too familiar with) sound like a Holiday Inn. And I appreciate how you feel after spending time in El Pueblito. The oppressive sadness stays with you long after you've left. Since you're already in TJ, I would normally prescribe as an antidote that you go directly to the ZN, have a bunch of Pacificos, and get laid. However, in your present circumstances, steps one and two will just have to suffice. :)
