I was listening to some contemporary Portuguese singer (female) bein' interviewed on NPR yesterday...and they played a few of her tunes...Even thought I was thoroughly indoctrinated with the Getz-Gilberto-Gabor Zsabo coalition some 30 years ago... It suddenly dawned on me that Portuguese has the soft "zhay" sound for "J"...like in French. Guess that's why I always thought Astrid Gilberto was some French chick... Or am I mistaken? |
