Ken only smokes on days he drinks.

Which is far less often than it used to be... Actually, as of Monday, Ken doesn't even smoke when he drinks. Ken is not smoking, and not drinking so that he won't smoke. Ken is a homebody these days. But if you try hard enough, I think you may get him out there on Friday... ;o)

Personally, I think this new wave of temperance on his part is more to do with Luomo jacking up the price of liquor than anything else.

I remember hanging out with Ken at 4X4, man, he was smoking like Morton Downy Jr after a 12 hour , bumpy plane ride.

It was actually very simple math that led me to quit drinking. I counted up the ass I've had to turn down because I was drunk, then counted up the ass I've had to turn down because I was sober. An easy decision. The new prices at L'uomo only serve to ensure that I won't reverse my decision...

As for smoking, well, I guess you only have to sober up to realize just how nasty cigarettes really are... ;o)

Way to go, Ken! Looking forward to bumping into you and Don on many future visits to Rio!

My wife has tried to convince me to go alcohol free Monday's and Tuesday's. So far it has about a 50/50 chance of happening. Carnival certainly did not help (I took 100% advantage of all boozing and party opportunities). Aye, not drinking anymore - quite an accomplishment on the part of Ken. Not sure I can do the same.

Rio is like the worst place on earth for people that have vices - mine is a chopp de Brahma and Devassa.

BTW, I will be in Rio tomorrow (Fri. Mar. 6) thru the 15th. Please don't tell Viviane. Please!

I did it monthly for years.

I'm currently on my second trip to Rio and will be here until 5/3. Would like to join up with a buddy to explore Centro and some of the areas off of the path. Extremely disappointed with Help and the scamming trash I've had the pleasure of meeting so far on this trip.

As you're new to Brazil, stick with Rio for mongering the first time through. Check out my Rio Guide posted here on CH and many of the basic questions will be answered.

i've heard alot about the thermas in SP, what are the recommendations to find the best girls?

The only therma that I visited in SP was (I think) Guys and Dolls....and the quality was just OK. Sampa has many venues (clubs, casas, clinicas and tons of indys) but I think termas are well down the list. I believe that LAGuys guide has all the low down you could possible want.

It depends on how you define termas. The true terma experience can really only be had in Rio. By this I mean that the girls dress in sexy outfits and sit down with you. Her job is to seduce you so that you take her to an on premise suite/cabine.

In Sao Paulo, both the sexy outfits and the on premise rooms are being outlawed. Furthermore, the making out and groping in the boite is something that seems unique to Rio.

There are still lots of great times to be had in Sao Paulo but the whole terma experience is not one of them.

Speaking of termas/rio man i need to plan a return trip .. I was browsing the web and found this site (http://www.dreamcam.com.br/) anybody else found this before? The (I think they are really brazilian) girls are sexy as hell and its fun to maximize the free video feed on my 2nd monitor in my office... sure beats a screen saver...

Finding ones who speak English can be a challenge. Your best bet is to call and ask.

If you want to pay top dollar, Cafe Photo has a reasonable number of girls who speak English from what I remember.

Yeah, but do they speak Spanish? That's highly important for an Indian guy with horrible English when he's in Brasil, where they apparently now speak Purtgeese.

Hey Cat, don't laugh, I am able to make do in Rio with English and a reasonable command of Spanish. Ok its a given, I can't discuss things like the Ibovespa stocks index but I never have a problem with chit chat , bbbj, where and when to meet.bla bla bla. It gets a little tricky sometimes because some words in Portuguese and Spanish are the same and some can mean something completely different.

Anybody going to be down in Rio from June 10th to the 20th? I've been there twice before but would always appreciate company.

Hello is there anyone making plans to be in Rio during thanksgiving week? I have not been to Rio since 1987 and I am pretty sure things have changed a lot but I am still interested in finding the most fun I can in a ten day period.So I am thinking that this might be a plan to go to Rio as it has been too long.

I have noticed from posts that Brazil is a lot more expensive than I remember but the women are bar none some of the most beautiful in the world so.....

Any of you veteran Brazil Mongers planning on being there at that time I sure would like the opportunity to hang out and relearn the ropes of what Rio is now today.

I was just pulling Cortogringo's leg. He's been my regular travel partner in Rio for more years than either of us will admit. He's been away a couple of years, so I'm just yanking his chain. But he knows Rio better than most guys on CH.

Now CFK, on the other hand, really would need a guide! And it would cost him more than a beer. Minimum would be an hour program at 4X4, I think.

Anyone Rio-bound in April? A few partners in crime backed out on me, so I'm going solo, arriving on April 10th and staying through the 17th. Drop me a note if you'll be in town. VM is always more fun with a group.

So, why is it that few folks ever post their travel plans? I can't believe that sf4dfish and I are the only CH members out and about in April. Has the group simply become asocial? I've always found it fun to get together for a beer or so with like-minded mongers while traveling, but it seems we've devolved into solo travelers or small cliques.

I will be there for 5 days, but leaving on 4/5 before you arrive.

I think you are right, I think I have evolved into a solo traveler. Which is strange on second thought, since 4 of my better friends (including my best friend now) were all met via mongering travels. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 have since settled down (Meaning married & kids) and the 4th - one of my best friend - having work commitments that make it difficult for extended travel.

Still hope to meet you one day!

It's the high speed rail line between Rio and SP that's supposed to do VM in, and as far as I can tell, that project is evolving at typical Brazilian speed.

Oh I see...what I read/heard was that they were trying to clean it up for the games.
