I am a new "poster" here, but a long time fan of WSG. I will be arriving in BA on October 15th, staying for about a week, and plan to service as many chicas as humanly possible. I changed usernames from ABarebear, but to answer your question, it was 180pesos +VAT, she initially quoted 170, but they had a price increase. Their published rate if you were to book yourself is 250p + VAT (which is 21%). I've seen better deals posted on this site, but not recently.

Also, lets get together for an evening of mongering since there will be an overlap. This will be my first trip to BA, but I've done my homework with the help of WSG archives, Moondog, Godfather, and many others. I've booked most of my afternoons(subject to whims), but I've left every evening free.

I've pursued this hobby in all the major Mexican border towns, some of the resort and internal cities, all accross the US, three cities in Canada, Turkey, Netherlands, and Germany, but BA sounds like heaven to me with the devaluation of the peso. If UWphoto and Sandman will be in BA when I'm there, I would definitely appreciate tips from the seasoned veterans of the Argentina scene.

I'm interested in trying that myself, which school are you planning to attend? I've been taking online classes, tapes to and from work, and a program for pc, but the progress is slow unless I'm pushed or given a deadline.

I emailed Maria asking about current Armani rate and room availability, but no reply (maybe I am too impatient, but imho a reservation dept should be able to answer a simple rate / availability email in half a business day, especially if you explain any deadline for info). Next day I emailed Carla but... no reply. Finally I emailed Carla again saying I was aware they had a good Armani rate and I would like a reservation at that rate, but I could not wait any longer for a reply as I was leaving for the airport.... 24 hours later I arrived and they had a reservation for me. Although no one mentioned it at the desk, I soon discovered I was in a Standard room-- but no problem, it should be even better $. Admittedly, I should have confirmed my rate at the desk, but my brain was plane-dead and since they had my reservation, I did not ask. Now that I got on to the net, I find Maria did finally respond(Carla never did) and said the Armani rate is no longer available and attached a list of their rack rates! So unless anyone else has suggestion, I guess that is what I will have to pay Monday noon. Ezy or Sakebomb, do you still have anything going here? Not sure what your "rack rates" quoted but Mayri at www.argentinago.com (mayra@argentinago.com) has negotiated rates.

Standard: $145.- Suite Ejecutiva: $169.- Suite Diplomática: $187

Those are some damn good rates. They do not include the tax. With tax it's still only like $65 US per night for diplomatic suite. $59 for Executive. Pay to upgrade..worth it.


Me, UWPhoto, Kick Stand will all be repeating our little group during Thanksgiving. Kick Stand arrives on Wednesday, November 27th in the AM (with a friend); I arrive November 28th, Thursday AM. And UWPhoto is joining us on Friday, 29th. This is gonna be pure decadence.

Yes, those are good rates-- Wish I had gotten them! "Rack Rates" are the "official" rates for a hotel, just like "Suggested Retail." Etoile's current rack rates as listed on their web site are Std=198+(p), Exec=225+, Dip=250+ and that is why I had requested a reservation based upon the "Armani rate" mentioned so often here. They did have a room for me when I arrived and I checked in expecting that rate(possibly with some minor current adjustment). HOWEVER, when I got a chance to read my email later, I found a letter from Maria (sent a half day AFTER I had told her I would no longer have email access before I arrived!) saying the "Armani rate" is no longer available. Bottom line: I ended up paying 198p+ (about $67) for the STANDARD room. Thanks for the reply, though-- no one else bothered.

I will also be making a trip during the Thanksgiving weekend. I am staying someplace new this time, just to try something different.

When I was first assigned EZE; I had on my first two assignments an opportunity to have a driver/guide - He in essence exposed me to the lay of the land - In later years it took over GIG - It's like having cheap wine by the gallon Vs a good bottle of merlot.

I just bought my tickets for my Thanksgiving trip. Tried priceline, and saved close to $125. $455 all charges included round trip from Detroit, compared to the $804 I paid for my October trip, I couldn't afford not to go. I'll be staying at the Ulises, across the street from the Alvear Palace.
