Middle age rookie ready to do PV for a week sometime in early 2012 . In need of long over do escape. Prefer non-rookie or we can both learn the ropes. I'm in SCal. Also if there is any one that can offer advice to first timer in case I have to go it alone, it would be very welcomed. Happy hunting!

Why PV? I saw you're doing TJ which is a good rookie location but not sure you'll find much in PV. There are many much better locations for beginners.

There's been reports of a lot of narc-related violence in PV. Some of it has been in the tourist zones. Although it is likely that you wouldn't be a target, getting caught at the wrong place/wrong time could happen.
Can't say anything specifically about the hobby in PV, but I would recommend keeping a low profile if you do decide to go. As d'Art said, there are better places to go if you are simply going to hobby. If you are going to hobby and vacation, that would be a different story.
