Hey Gr8tr! I will be going to Prague in September. Could you give us all an update on the Prague scene? There is not much known about this great city on the board. I have been there only once and loved it. If you are a history and architecture buff, this is one of the greatest place around. Also, the food is awesome!

BTW, if you are into getting great items at their source inexpensively, Prague is the central place to buy handmade Bohemian Crystal. I bought some there a couple years age, and it is quite a display Also, the "Pilsen" beer was invented in The Czech Republic (Then Czechoslovakia, and part of the greater Austria-Hungary Empire). I was also able to find authentic WWII Nazi documents there for only a few dollars. If yo are a history buff as I am (especially the WWII era), these are neat little items that cannot be found elsewhere, and are available cheaply. You might visit Skokorin Castle, it is cool (day trip), and Terazin is a 100% intact Nazi POW camp a short way north of Prague. There is just so much to see and do there it is mind boggling. I envy Mr_BadFrosty, as he moved there not long ago! You should drop him a PM. He's a really great guy

Hey guys Prague is an excellent place. One thing to look out for is the rip-off taxis. Ask the driver how much the journey will cost before you move. Also an excellent club called 'Darlings' is a must see. Wall to wall top class girls all looking serviced.

If memory serves me right the two taxi companies that are less apt to rip you off are AAA and City taxi. The best bet is to call one of these companies if you need a taxi (I don't know if using these taxis off of the street offer the same level of assurance of fair treatment)

However, the subway system is quite good and is the preferred method of travel if it will get you close to where you are going. Note, however, after you purchase your ticket, you will need to get it validated by the machine at the entrance to the subway. If you do not, and are caught by one of the Metro police (the probability of getting asked for your ticket seems to increase if you are at a station near a tourist spot; in other words there are no breaks for ignorant tourists, quite the opposite) you will have to pay a hefty fine. Don't be misled by the many Czechs who enter the system without validating their tickets; they have weekly or monthly tickets that only have to be validated on first use.

Also, any pieces of luggage, or even large packages, need separate tickets, otherwise you will also be fined. A bit out of the usual, but once you have it figured out (which shouldn't take long) it is worth using.

LaGuy is right AAA and City are the two to call. Although the subways are clean efficient and pretty safe, they don't run everywhere and they stop altogether around midnight if memory servs me right.

Also, hotels charge a huge mark-up to call a cab for you, so don't have your hotel call" a cab, flag one. The prices for taxis go up at night, as there are fewer of them. As xbrutex said, make sure you set the price BEFORE you get into the cab, or you WILL pay a bogus fare!

hey, i know this isn~t necessarily the place for such posts, but i want to thank everyone for all the tips. i need all i can get because i have never been here before and i dont speak the language. also,i have had a few bad experiences when i was younger with some european rip off joints and want to avoid them this time (or learn my lesson again and pass along the experiences to others). i got a couple garotas here in brasil who want to come with me for free and i am debating whether to take them also (but i will have to pay their airfare which will probably be around 1500 dollars). if anyone has any other tips please let me know. thanks and iwill be sure to pay it back with some good information when i return.

Renting a car so i will also try Cheb and Teplice on 27th. Well, just got an e-mail from my friend Bad_MrFrosty. he was a CH member that I met in Rio in Feb. He was only a temp member, but says that he is going to BKK in the late fall and will rejoin the board.

He lives in Prague and said he has a line-up all set for me when I arrive. He is going to take me to all of his favorite spots, both upscale and slummin!

I am really looking forward to the Prague trip now.

Haven't been to Prague in awhile, but remember it well (K5, etc.) But, I've never been to Italy. From what I've read here, it doesn't seem to be the best mongering places. Can anyone dispute this? All I've heard about is a brothel in Rimini....
