Just booked a flight to Buenos Aires arriving April 18. Planning to stay at Etoile Hotel.
Hopefully the political situation will stabilize but the peso exchange rate will improve. I'm sure that the number of tourists will be down, so I'm counting on getting lots of attention for reduced prices.
Let me know if any other adventurous hombres want to meet up ...
Departing on 22 April.

I stayed at the Etoile in Recoleta in November 2001. Wonderful staff. Superb location. Easy walking distance to Password, Hippo, Newport, and Black.
The hotel name is French, so it is pronounced E-twall, not E-toy-lay as you would expect in Spanish.
Make sure that you have the street address and a map to give to the taxi driver at the airport. On my trip from the airport, the driver had no idea where the hotel was. He had to call his dispatcher for directions, and even after that, he stopped, got out of the car, and asked for directions twice.
The hotel is located on RM Ortiz between La Biela cafe on Quintana and Lola restaurant on Guido. RM Ortiz is a pedestrian-only street where the Etoile is located, so unless the driver has been there before, he might not be able to find the one-way access road to the hotel.
Have fun!

Blowjo..stay at the Hotel Etoile in Recoleta..whatever you do..do not negotiate in US$ tell them you are paying in Argentinian pesos and go as loaw as you possibly can..I set up a rate at the hotel section you can use as a reference, but that wasin January..the Dollar is 2:1 right now.....tell them Armani (#27) sent you...read my review of this hotel as well in the "Hotel" discussion...March 8 is a Friday...so I assume you will fly out Thur night and arrive in the morning..get plenty of rest..because the nightime in Recoleta lights up!! There is a very nice restaurant and theater district at the Village Recoleta...just down the street from etoile...even a Hooters restaurant..and yes the Argentinian women are very, very beautiful and friendly!!!
Pick up the Clarin newspaper for some good adult calssifieds...I used it and belive it or not have had some very cute girls show up at my ddor for 50 bucks...that was in 2001 You can offer Pesos now...

Hey EZY..lokks like the Claridge Hotel is indeed doing a great rate..do you have contact information available? I want to know how much they wil charge me for 30 days.....where is the hotel located? Good Luck in 515 Quito BTW...
Flyguy
By Ezy on Thursday, March 07, 2002 - 09:56 am: Edit |
The Claridge Hotel is downtown on Tucuman near Florida, the pedestrian street. The URL is www.claridge.com The special is U$100 per night X 3 nights, with the 4th night free, so the total is $75 per night including breakfast. Great hotel for the price, and very near Café Orleans and other downtown clubs. For a stay of 30 days I am sure they would work with you, but for longer stays it is hard to beat a suite, such as you have at the Etoile.
You know the 515 in Quito? It is a great place to spend an enjoyable evening!
By Flyguy on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 - 11:36 am: Edit |
Hey there EZY! Thx for the feedback on Claridge hotel. Yes, business led me to Quito last year. I did enjoy 515 a lot. In fact it is one of my favorite get-away places now, when I want to have some fun on a modest budget. ~grin

Is Argintina safe to travel alone, I always go to TJ solo, and meet up with girls to hang out with, I was wondering if I can do the same in ARG.
Any advice would be appreciated..

I have been to Argentina 4 times since August 2001 for periods ranging from 1 to 3 weeks. Buenos Aires, while not crime free, is a damn site safer than, say, downtown Atlanta at night.
Take the usual precautions...don't walk alone in downtown. Instead, take a RADIO cab. Don't wear expensive jewelry. Leave some of your money in the hotel safe, some in a money belt or your sock, etc. Make copies of your passport, and keep a record of your credit card numbers.
In Recoleta, a walk down Junin or onto Guido from the Etoile is very safe...if you go to the clubs other side of the cemetary (Playwomen & Solid Gold a & Sodoma, etc), stay on the side of the street with the shops and you will not have a problem....
By Moondog on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 - 12:24 pm: Edit |
Ampm,
Normal big city precautions will get you through.
By Lonw on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 12:58 am: Edit |
Ampm,
I was in BA for two weeks in November and did not have any problems.
Aside from all of the normal precautions, I believe that attitude counts.
Don't act like a tourist. Don't ever act "lost". Always know where you are going, or at least act like it. Don't walk up and down the same street aimlessly as if you are lost. Walk purposefully and confidently.
Never, ever, flag a taxi on the street. Always use a radio cab or "remise" - fixed fee taxi. If you are going out for any reason, have the hotel call you a remise. After you get to your destination, let the driver know how long you will be and have him pick you up at the appointed time to take you back to your hotel.
It might be helpful to carry a cell phone. I found out that AT&T offers WorldConnect service in Argentina. You have to activate it before you go there, but the cost is pretty minimal, about $7 per month plus 65 cents per minute. I had a bit of trouble getting it to work, but I was able to use my U.S. cell phone there. You will need a voltage converter and a converter plug.
You can also rent cell phones there. Hotel Etoile has cell phones in every room that you can rent for a very reasonable rate, around 1.64 pesos per minute.
I thought that BA was safer than Rio de Janeiro, and I did not have any significant problems in Rio.

AMPM, I posted this over the chat area and since you´re new with the board, I just want to make sure you got this info. Pardon me otros hombres.
I got you set up at the Etoile at 120pesos/night, but you need to contact Maria Julietta through email to give her your full name and a credit card #. Mention my name otherwise you will be paying twice as much. She set me up with a mini sex mansion. Foyer, Bathroom suite, seperate sitting area with 3 couches, seperate bedroom area, and a frig´ balcony.
Dude, YOU WILL LOVE IT HERE!!!! Beautiful women are everywhere. I haven´t seen an ugly woman nor a gorda one yet. I got a bottle of Barcadi 8 anos (anejo) and a bottle of Courvoisier VSOP and 2 boxes of Punch Habana Cigars in my suite so we are set for private party.
here is Maria email, your confirm # is 42035

Sakebomb, I'm still in recovery from watching you put them away at Tropical last Sunday.. Now you are already in BA and just beginning to party..
Oh to be a young stud again...;o)
Enjoy amigo and don't forget to share some stories for us old farts...
By Ezy on Saturday, April 20, 2002 - 06:55 am: Edit |
Sakebomb....
How about asking Maria Julieta to set a ClubHombre rate, similar to the TSM rate at the Presidente in Costa Rica? That way we would not need to rely on your name or on Fly Guy's individually....
Sounds like you guys are having a great time....love the photos and reports!

Altogringo, it was great meeting you and Daytimer at TropB last Sunday. You young studs really know how to party. Daytimer sure can fly on that dance floor.
Ezy, I´ll try as I will have lunch with her tomorrow (prevent any unforseen development chicas). I don´t think she would like the idea since mi becina, my neighbor, is a family with kids.
Beautiful women drew me to BA, now I´m in love with this city and its people. Sex is now only secondary.

Sakebomb,
I agree with your assessment of Buenos Aires. It is a very liveable big city...lots of green space, pedestrian friendly neighborhoods, friendly people, efficient public transportation, an interesting mix of architectural styles, and the list goes on.
I am looking for ways to move to BA. Chicas are certainly on my list of reasons why I would like to live in BA, but it is a special, unique city for other reasons as well...
glad you are having a good time.

I'm interested in the Etoile Hotel...sounds too good...:-) A few questions: How long of a ride is it from the airport (EZE)? How many pesos on average to drivers charge? Thanks in advance.
By uwphoto on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 09:05 pm: Edit |
Etoile hotel is fabulous. 33 Pesos from airport to hotel. About a 30 minute ride. Thats about $10.
Will be in BA from 6 June to 9 June. Drop me an email if you want to meet up.

UWphoto. I'm thinkin' even more seriously about going to BA at about the same time you will be there. I'll decide one way or the other very soon. It turns out another friend of mine (female, BA native) will arrive on the 9th.
She had some interesting suggestions about where/how to have fun (though the knows nothing of the hobby). She suggested that some airlines are to be avoided (Avianca) because service isn't that great and because it is a pain in the ass to go through the airport in Colombia.
Anybody else here gonna be in BA after the 6th?
By uwphoto on Friday, May 24, 2002 - 03:46 pm: Edit |
Just confirmed rates at Etoile Hotel ... 132 pesos plus 21% tax for executive suite double occupancy... that's less than $50US per night. Etoile is one block from great cafes and clubs in Recoleta and short taxi ride (3 or 4 pesos) to downtown clubs.
Sorry to miss you layne. Perhaps another time in Rio. Have enjoyed your posts.
Anyone else in BA around 6 June?
By Dmohio on Friday, June 07, 2002 - 11:43 pm: Edit |
With some very valuable help from Moondog, I will be visiting BA during the period from 6/10-6/15. I'm from Ohio, as the username suggests.
I speak pretty good spanish, I am told. Prior visits to CTG and SJO have shown me that I can be pretty independent language wise. I have reservations for an apartment type hotel in Recoletta, which was referred to in Moondog's reports.
If anyone wants to contact me to get together, to go bar hopping, to protect one another's back vs. street hustler's thieves, or to share a wonderful adventure during 6/10-6/15, please email me at dmandel@mco.edu.

I haven't bought my tickets yet, but my first B.A. trip will be coming up at the end of summer. I'm thinking about the last week in Sept. and the first week in Oct., but I wanted to see if anyone else would be going at about the same time first. If I can hook up with a more experienced B.A. vet within a week or two of that time, I'll adjust my plans accordingly. Anyone out there making a visit in that time-frame?
