Congratulations to the 2001 Hombre Awards Winners!

My thanks goes out to every ClubHombre reporter and photographer. You've contributed some of the best reports and photographs on the web!

Thanks also to ClubHombre's many loyal readers and upgraded members. This event would not have been possible without your participation.

I'm looking forward to reading some of the "speeches" the winners come up with. You can also use this topic to discuss the awards or congratulate the winners themselves.

By Aardvark on Thursday, February 21, 2002 - 09:51 pm:  Edit

I have to be truthful in the fact that with all of the great photo contributions, I really didn't think I'd have a chance to win one or even two of the photo awards. Thank you for your votes and I hope that I'll have a chance to contribute more in 2002 for all of your viewing pleasure and to again be in consideration for the next "awards"

I'm still amazed at the opportunities I had to take those photos and the only wish I have it that I was the person sitting next to Elizabeth in her PISS photo AND that I also would have had the opportunity to taste that chica before she "vanished"!

Again, thanks all (and especially Hombre!) and I know this wil be one of the topics of conversation at tomorrow's BAMC (Bay Area Monger's Convention).

Thanks to all who voted for me, and thanks to all
the other trip report writers, etc. who give me
something to do when I am not doing what I like
to do the most. Being recognized makes all
the hard work that I had to do to keep those cheerleaders happy and safe in my room worth
it somehow. I don't normally make narrative type
trip reports like this, but the adventure was
just so good that posting the report turned out
to be just about as much fun-yea right! Will try
to post the pics I have from that report before
I leave for CR next week and will work on having
another great trip like that one sometime during
this year so I can be considered for the next
contest. Thanks again, all!!

On reflection, it doesn't seem fair that you guys get pictures of beautiful women, and we pay you for it! Or that you escort a bunch of cheerleaders around for a week, and get paid for it!

Congratulations to all of this years winners!

Well, …… for once I'm speechless.

I feel rather awkward in that I really don't consider myself a skilled writer by any stretch of the imagination. I felt a very quiet pride just in being grouped with such fine writers as Matiz, Whistler, Farsider, Drew and all the others, but know that if judged on technical skills, I would come up woefully inadequate. And I'm fine with that, although I may not possess those skills myself, I admire and enjoy those skills in others.

So why am I being honored?

Well, I can only think that my story has had such a positive response with many of the board not because of the skill of presentation but because of the emotions and moral quandaries expressed in it. These issues are ones I have found that many of us come to face sooner or later in our "hobby", and my struggles with them seems to have hit a chord that has resonated with so many, not because of their uniqueness but because they are so damn common. And I can only say that after months of introspection, it does us all credit that it does. This is not meant in any way to be self congratulatory, god knows we have little to be high fiving about, but it does show that despite our selfishness (which is the essence of these activities for my part, I've concluded) we still have some measure of compassion for others.

My Tijuana saga, which is still reverberating though my life, was written largely for my own search for some peace of mind. Originally embarrassed about the raw emotion that I felt compelled to chronicle, it was only through the urging of some very good friends I have managed to make here that I posted it at all. Their much needed and appreciated support was by and large matched by the positive response I have received from you all. That is something I'm far more grateful for than any award.

You know, I have this quote rolling around in the back of my head, and I cannot remember the source or where I read it (I have a feeling one of the board members whose writing I greatly admire first brought it to my attention) but to paraphrase, a writer (a real one) when asked how he could write the way he did stated " I find writing easy, all I have to do is open a vein".

That pretty much sums up my trip report, although I do not find writing easy, and it wasn't skillfully executed, I did open a very large vein and let the results pour out on the page. I thank you all for the recognition of that.

Elizabeth!! She was dead last on my list. WOW.

By Hombre on Friday, February 22, 2002 - 08:26 am:  Edit

That shows how diverse some of our tastes are.

All three photography categories were very interesting races.

Elizabeth started strong, then it became a three way race with Yadira and Dianeta. Dianeta then fell behind. Last day votes then led to a strong Elizabeth finish.

Best photograper started off as a three-way battle, then became a four-way battle with the introduction of Fatman. They ran close the whole time with Aardvark finishing only two votes ahead.

Best shot was initially a race between Athos' Claudia 6 and both MitchC's entries. Aardvark started getting votes late then rushed ahead in the final stretch.

I'll have to think about whether there should be multiple photo entries from the same photographer, best shot may have been much closer if MitchC and Athos had only one entry.

By Aardvark on Friday, February 22, 2002 - 08:52 am:  Edit

Must have been all the $$$ I pumped into my campaign! It probably cost me more then my $100 prize for those "last-minute" votes. LOL!

There's actually one or two EVEN BETTER photos of my time with Smith & Frida II but a) I don't know if I sent them to Hombre & b) I think my heavy-hairy body is glimpsed in them and that would certainly disqualify me from ANY prize.

Elizabeth's PISS photo is fantastic and shows what attracted me to her initially. That and great reviews from friends convinced me I had to have her but she spiraled "deeper" into her drug-life before I had a chance to spend any "quality" time with her. I'm saddened but also happy in the knowledge that there will always be a new "Elizabeth" in the looks, service, and having fun departments!

By Farsider on Friday, February 22, 2002 - 09:08 am:  Edit

Congrats to all the winners, and Hombre, I hope you do this next year. It was fun.

Bill... bleed you did, and in doing so, you actually brought about a discernible paradigm shift on this board. That's no easy feat.

Elizabeth got my vote for best PISS photo, easily. Too bad that she's MIA, and it's even more of a shame that drug use might be behind her disappearance.

I'd like to thank all the people who voted for me.

Am shocked to be tied with a non paying lady hombre for this kind of site.

I'd like to thank also photographers Fatman and MitchC who seem to build a big library of chicas.
Fatman is the submarine man, plenty of photos and he never seems to post.

Giving the actual result tally would fun to see...just a suggestion.

By Milkman on Friday, February 22, 2002 - 12:35 pm:  Edit

I would like to thank all that voted for me.

I work hard on my posts and it feels good to see that people appreciate my posts.

I give lots of free Milky tours and show people all around the zona and Discos In TJ and it seems like these guys paid me back with their votes.

I really appreciate that guys and Hope to hook up with more of you soon.

Also honored to be tied with Athos as he is a valulable asset to this board , his posts on Brazil are great and he seems to be pretty much an expert when it comes to this haven for chicas.

I hope to add more to this board in the upcoming year.
Just hope that I don't get bogged down with a wife or something ;o) !!

Thanks again
Milkman

"I find writing easy, all I have to do is open a
vein" was, I believe, Micky Spilane.

I like Heinlein's quote better. "They'll pay me to do this? How long has this racket been going on?"

By d'Artagnan on Friday, February 22, 2002 - 07:16 pm:  Edit

I'd like to thank my last girlfriend, if it wasn't for her I'd probably wouldn't have been wandering around TJ 3.5 years ago.

Thanks to Xen for helping to make our trip a great one. I've made several trips alone and it's better with a buddy. It would have been perfect if he spoke better Spanish.

Thanks to the other participants and the voters. The challenge was fun and I appreciate the votes.

Thanks to Hombre for the great website and for putting this together.

Xen will be returning to LOS but I'm off to conquer another part of the world. There will be more d'Art reports to come.

Thank you, and good night.

(d'Art waves to his cheering fans before graciously exiting the stage)

Thanks to everybody who voted for me. I could not have been more surprised because I did not even
know I had been nominated. I was reading the
"last 1 day" of the Discus Board and saw my
trip report and I thought, HUH, what is that
report doing here when I published it in Aug,2001 and then I saw a congradulations from Dogster.
I went ,WHAT, is this a joke because I did not
enter anything in that contest. Well words cannot
describe the astonishment and surprise that my
little pygmy report was listed as a winner with reports that were written by some of the "giants of the earth". Gee my little pygmy report would come up the the knee of some of those giants. Well after such a great honor I will follow up
the trip report with some details ,with considerable romantic spanish for you guys trying
to learn, as to some interesting goings on while I was in Cuba...also thanks to HOMBRE for providing
such a quality website and thanks to you guys who have posted uour experiences and information that
I continue to find entertaining and useful. What got me started to posting trip reports to begin with was trying to pay back the guys for their trip reports I had used on my first trip to Juarez
and to Nuevo Laredo. LOL even though I had a considerable amount of info on Juarez and on Cuba
I was still scared when I first arrived and without the info I would not have even known about
what was going on with working girls and where
to go and do and would have been REALLY REALLY SCARED. Thanks again...y que le vaya bonito..DOCTORGOOD

Congratulations to all winners and nominess. You all deserve the recognitions you received.

Continuing on the topic of multiple nominess from a single contributor, I felt that it was to Matiz' disadvantage that he had two entries at Mexico and best overall reports. Although the two nominated reports dealt with vastly different themes and moods, they still shared the writing style and perspectives. The people who were drawn to his writings might have had difficulty deciding which one to vote for, and this might have resulted in splitting votes.

I actually voted for somebody else's, and am no way questioning the outcome of the votes. I have a feeling that Bill's victories at both categories were landslides. It's just something that can be taken into consideration for next year's contest.

Any opinon on this matter?

By Athos on Sunday, February 24, 2002 - 11:13 am:  Edit

As far as the best photo, I think the photos matter more than the photographer. I was just honored and happy to have multiple finalists. It does not matter who wins, I just hope I had a few votes.
For the best reports on the other hand, maybe one entry per hombre so superior writers like Matiz do not get the shaft if that occured.

By Byron on Sunday, February 24, 2002 - 02:09 pm:  Edit

I agree that photos matter than photographers, but 70-80 % of what makes a photo great is the model, and I had difficulty deciding between Claudia 1 and 6 (I voted for 6).

By the way, Athos, you were wary of Claudia wanting to marry you. If she is as pretty in person as in the pictures, I'd consider marrying her.

just kidding

I would like to thank everyone that voted for Dart and me.

I've been adding some additional pictures of certain places recently. I hope these can help newbies get an idea of what to look for and what to expect.

If things work out I'll be returning to Thailand in August. I hope to provide another report with as much information as possible. And yes, I hope to once again be like a Japanese Tourist Bus with the photos.

I'm suprised Youngtom didn't win anything.By far he has posted the most detailed info on Rio.It was invaluable to me on my trip there.I think Athos wrote the most entertaining report, but I think YT should get a special mention for all his imput.Just my 2 cents.

I understnand I was nominated and did get some votes-thanks guys. Don't post for recognition-just to help others down the path

By Epa on Tuesday, February 26, 2002 - 04:06 pm:  Edit

I'd like to thank God, who made all things possible, my Mom & Dad, have always believed in me, my manager who did so much work behind the scenes, all the folks at Hombre records, and...

Wait, I didn't win? OK,

Really, it's an honor just to be nominated. I mean, to have my name (handle) mentioned in the same sentence as all of these wonderful people is such a thrill, I feel so...

Wait, I wasn't even nominated?

Damn you guys all suck!

:-)
