What's with the Photo Designations? Grunt? Soldier? C'mon guys, how about something in keeping with the theme? I propose:

0-9 Photos = Kodak Brownie
10-49 Photos = Pentax k1000
50-99 Photos = Nikon F4
100-499 Photos = Leica M7
500+ Photos = Hasselblad 500

I excluded digital because newer and better models come out every couple of months. Anyone who's gotten involved in photography this past half century has either owned, used or handled each of these cameras. Each one is an established classic and represent what a pro might have progressed through.

what a jump-- the k1000 to an f4 :-)

I went from a k1000 to Canon Eos to Nikon n90 and currently am standing pat.

The titles are mainly just for fun. They consist of three adjectives and a noun. For the noun, I wanted it to be some kind of person...hence "Grunt" to "Deity". Part of the influence was RTS computer games such as Warcraft.

Besides, I don't know how most Hombres would react to being called Brownies and Hasselblads.

Don, yeah, it's a bit of a jump, but I couldn't think of any other well-known classic cameras from which someone would graduate from their k1000. I figured it'd better be a Nikon, but which one? If you eventually move on to the Leica and/or Hasselblad, you may as well have the BEST Nikon, eh?

Hombre, I know the designations are for fun, but still, Warcraft? I mean, like, I'm a GRUNT? I'd rather be a Brownie. At least I'd put in a bit more effort to get those photos uploaded and move up to a Pentax k1000.

OK, so if not cameras, then photographers:
Edward Weston for level 1 (although Henri Cartier-Bresson might have fared well)
Man Ray for the next level
Irving Penn for level 3
Helmut Newton gets 4 only because
Richard Avedon, at level 5, gets the most beautiful women.

I wasn't sure if David Hamilton should be included lest someone get the wrong message. Herb Ritts was a possible level 4, but too many guys might pick up on the fact that he's also a great photographer of ... well, guys. Of course Mapplethorpe would certainly scare away ANY hombre.

Of course, we COULD go with famous playboy photographers, but I only know a handful of guys who ever looked at the other side of those images to see who photographed them. Sports illustrated swimsuit edition photographers would be good, but who the hell's ever heard of THEM? (Lucky bastards.)

I would make a special mention of Galen Rowel, who sadly passed away last year in a plane crash. I met him on several occasions and he one of the most passionate and unique individuals I've met.

Truth is, many more people can relate to orcs and violence then classic cameras...but I'll tell you what. If you make it to level 2, I'll customize the script so that it will show the camera or photographer designations when your PAD is viewed or others by request. (but you have to be first since it will be additional programming time)

Remember that photo submissions are easy, you don't need to figure anything out, you can just email them to photos@clubhombre.com.

Thanks, Hombre, but you know I'm just razzin' ya.

I'd be well past level 2 but for a horrible screwup with my data transfer technique on my SEA trip. Man, I lost the photos of nearly a dozen girls.

But next month ... I'm back on a mission!

(I still thing the camera designations are pretty cool, though.)

Hombre: Photo designations have been removed, but a new development is coming that will replace it. (2012)
