Hombre,
I just posted and got a surprise introduction to PHPSpell, a spellchecker that pops up in its own window and tries to act like Microsoft word.
First, it doesn't think "I'm" is a valid word. That's a bug, but I tell it learn.
Second, it wants to show me and talk about one word at a time. At dialup bandwidth, this is more annoying than convenient.
I'd suggest a "leave me alone" permanent option (I think I'm a better speller than PHPSpell, for the time cost involved). I'd also suggest a "total document speller" that highlights *ALL* the "bad/questionable" words at once, then let me edit the document or teach it the words.
(Best of all would be a speller with a big javascript component, so it could detect which red word I clicked on, then negotiate as usual with the Learn/Ignore/Change stuff.)

Online spellcheckers are a real challenge, at best you have to choose between speed or functionality, I do not believe there are any that offer both, and especially not using javascript.
The spell check is optional, of course. You can simply hit enter after typing your password, hit an additional tab-enter, or click the preview/post button instead of spell check.
Hombre: Browser updates in all browsers seemed to break the online spell checking. We don't have a fix researched for this and will be removing the spell check option in 2012.
