One of the biggest challenges when visiting a new destination is research, particular extracting the important information from multiple sources...trip reports, Discus threads, general discussion, external sources, etc...
Destination Guides are great in this respect. Generally they minimize personal details of a trip and focus on providing a better understanding of the P4P scene in a particular location. They can be of tremendous benefit to both experienced and newbie travelers.
Many people probably shy away from writing guides to avoid leaving the impression of being "experts" and concern of writing inaccurate information. We hope to dispel this impression and encourage more attempts at writing guides. Guide reports can always be updated with corrections and new information, or provide the foundation for more thorough guides. The important thing is just getting those guides started in the first place.
Writing guides for destinations that currently exist is also encouraged. Different people process information differently and will likely prefer different approaches to guides. What might be thorough and comprehensive to one, may be wordy and confusing to another. What might be concise and to the point may be short and incomplete from a different perspective. The bottom line is that the compilation of information you provide will very likely benefit others and is sure to be appreciated.
As a reminder, we also have a Destination Guide category as part of our Annual Hombre Awards.
Below is a listing of locations for which we have at least one guide written. We'd love to add to the lists of both guides and guide writers. Please consider writing a guide for the CH community.

What's good about this site is that if you just get a guide going, others will invariably chime in with additions, revisions and corrections. Case in point, Xen's recent Jakarta Guide. Fantastic collective mongering wisdom here; just need to get something started and the ideas flowing.

I have pledged to assemble a guide to Macau, a deliverable for either Q1 or Q2 of 2006, depending on work load, and how long it takes me to write all the trip reports from my current sojourn in Asia.

For some reason, I thought Murasaki had already written a guide to Macau; it must just be a very useful trip report that I am remembering. Indeed, I started to write a guide to Macau once, but after finishing about half of it decided I really didn't have much to add to what Murasaki already reported. In any event, I look forward to Murasaki's guide to Macau although don't expect he will be translating many of the Portuguese signs one finds there, which I found easier to do during my second trip to Macau, which followed perhaps two years in Brasil (off and on)

At some point I will try to put together a more comprehensive look at Porto Alegre. I think CN or Sandman should fill in the major gap in the Columbia coverage. It's surprising that no one's written one for San Jose, CR, and there's a need for an updated guide for Moscow as well.

Yeah, would love to see guides on Porto Alegre and San Jose, CR. Thanks in advance.

Hombre,
Why not add a category on the left side that = "Destination Guide"?
It could be between "TripReports" and "Men's Health".
This would make it easier to find them and to see the destinations that still need a reporter!
