I am going on vacation in august, and would love to take a trip to one of the wonderful places i never knew about but am very unsure where to go. I am looking for a place not to exspensive. I was thinking of TJ but most of the threads i have read .. no one stays there, is it ok to stay a few days in TJ or ..please leave some insight :-)

By Wombat88 on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 - 04:44 pm:  Edit

Hmm ... first define "not too expensive" and we'll see what we can do. It would also help to know where you are now. I mean, if you're in San Diego, TJ would be pretty cheap. If you're in Anchorage, Thailand is almost as close. Next, how much time do you have? If it's a week, you'd better stick close to home. Do you know any Spanish?

By Doctorhollywood on Thursday, July 17, 2003 - 11:44 pm:  Edit

Read through "the worlds best bordellos", another thread in this section. Should give you a lot to ponder. You can follow up with some trip reports on areas that may interest you.

Seems like Rio or Thailand....my favorites anyway. Good luck..

By Citydude on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 03:11 pm:  Edit

It would be nice of you could have mentioned the place you'd be starting your journey from :-)

By book_guy on Saturday, July 19, 2003 - 05:32 pm:  Edit

I am watching this thread develop with interest. I, too, would like similar advice, but I think I'm gonna phrase my request a bit different, when I know more of the parameters of my potential trip. I have been itchin' to get to Tijuana for my first time, not so much because I think the location outstrips (heh) others (like Rio), but because it just seems like such a "must do" thing. But I live in Tampa area, so I'd be flying from TPA or MIA or there'bouts, and don't yet know whether I'll have a week or a month, or how much money I'll be able to blow. Rio during Campeonato is my long-term dream ...

By d'Artagnan on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 10:02 pm:  Edit

This is almost too broad of a topic/question, but I will do my best. Remember, all of this is just my personal opinion, although I do know many travelers that would probably agree with my assessments.

I base my analysis on several factors:
1. Price
2. Travel Convenience
3. Services (Average)

PRICE
For price, Asia is difficult to beat. Per girl costs may run you $25 per girl for 2 hours to all night in Angeles City, Philippines. Bangkok and Pattaya in Thailand will run you a little higher. I would only recommend these two places in Asia for a first time trip because of the wealth of information and ease of getting laid in these two places. You need an absolute minimum of 7 days to go to either place, and remember that you will lose a day in travel time and that jet lag may slow you down at least for 2 days.

Cuba is a good place price wise and is much closer, but I strongly recommend against Cuba for the first-time traveler for legal reasons. In addition, a current crackdown on prostitution in Cuba is complicating things further.

Dominican Republic and Costa Rica come next in price rankings (with the exception of the Del Rey in San Jose). I have not been to the DR, so I cannot comment much on it, but my understanding is that price is close to those in Asia without the long travel time. The Del Rey in San Jose, Costa Rica is considered by many to have the best selection of girls in Costa Rica, but they come at a price that is 5-10x higher (initial $100 quotes that may sometimes be bargained down) than the massage parlors and local brothels.

Brazil and Argentina are the hotspots of South America, but they are down the scale in price rankings (with the exception of Del Rey, Costa Rica). You may find bargains in some of the less popular places, but termas/nightclubs in Brazil and escorts/nightclubs in Argentina will normally run you above $50 and in some cases $100 or more.

Tijuana is the sweetspot of Mexico. Street Girls will run you about $20 on average with club girls averaging $40-$60 for 30 min. Long time commitments may run you $100-$200 or more. Add in an additional $5 for SG rooms and $11 for short time bar girls rooms. Mexico has a ficha system that will add $6 to your bill for drinks you buy for girls in clubs, so spending time with girls beforehand in Mexico can turn expensive.

Price Ranking:
1. Philippines
2. Thailand
3. Dominican Republic
4. Costa Rica (if you avoid Del Rey, otherwise between Argentina/Tijuana)
5. Brazil
6. Argentina
7. Tijuana

TRAVEL CONVENIENCE
How much time do you have? If you only have a few days, forget about anyplace after the first 3.

By far the most convenient location is Tijuana. You can actually stay in the US and just cross the border to visit Tijuana. You'll arrive in San Diego or Tijuana or San Diego on the same day you leave and be back at home on the same day you leave. Tijuana's proximity to the border makes it by far the most convenient to travel to. Need anything or have any problems and you are only 20 min from the US.

Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic are also same day flights. They are THE destination of choice if you are on the East coast.

Brazil and Argetina will have you in the air for at least 8-9 hours. Most people will lose a day in travel time.

Thailand and the Philippines are rough on the first time traveler. You have at least 15 hours in the air from the West coast. If you need to travel to get to the West coast, there's even more time in the air. Add in the airport layovers and you lose at least 24 hours traveling to Asia.

Travel Convenience Ranking:
1. Tijuana
2. Dominican Republic
3. Costa Rica
4. Brazil
5. Argentina
6. Philippines
7. Thailand

SERVICES
When I discuss services, I generally refer to the average level of service that the average person can expect in any given location. Some people are sensitive to anything they perceive as criticisms to their favored locations. A common argument is that ANY level of service can be found in ANY location and that the particular guy and girl are the main determinants in how a session will turn out. My personal observation is that the people who make these arguments for some reason or another have not traveled outside their preferred country or are unwilling to do so. Nearly every person I know that has traveled to multiple countries, and I do know many, agrees with me that there are real and distinct differences on the average level of service you can expect.

So...here are my personal opinions of how average service levels differ between countries, based of course on my personal experience, my friends' opinions, and what I've read on this and other sites.

It's hard to get someone to visit another country after Brazil. Brazil is often a spoiler. The sexual tendencies of Brazilian girls are hard to describe in words, you really need to EXPERIENCE their sexual prowess. DFK (deep french kissing), rimming (tongueing of ass by the girl), and greek (anal sex) are commonplace in Brazil. It is almost as if Brazilian girls are on their own plane of sexual freedom and aggressiveness. Brazilian termas are heaven on earth for single guys.

Philippines and Thailand come in second and third, it will vary depending on who you ask, but for me personally I will say Thailand barely edges out Philippines for now. Many travelers will say that it's easier to find the GFE (girlfriend experiences) in the Philippines, but I personally find it about equal in both places but am generally more attracted to the Thai girls. Language is a big factor in establishing rapport in the Philippines and can influence GFE, but Thailand has soapy massage parlors, one of the finest experiences a guy can experience (another being the Brazilian terma).

Many Argentina fans must surely be disappointed in a fourth place ranking with arguments that they prefer the intimate GFE experiences over the Brazilian pros and that they are not attracted to Asian girls enough to consider anywhere in Asia, but again this is just my opinion. Like the first three, Argentina can be a spoiler with dedicated fans unwilling to visit new places. I personally love Argentina and the girls, I just prefer the three other places more. On a sidenote, Argentina is currently the #1 in where I would most likely like to live outside of the US, but that is for non-sexual reasons.

Costa Rica has what seems like a limitless supply of beautiful girls willing to perform above and beyond, but the many pros of the Del Rey give the place a well deserved reputation of having "professional" prostitutes, in other words those unwilling to perform quality services while being more demanding in terms of money. This site particularly seems to have many people that have "graduated" from Costa Rica, to Argentina and/or Brazil.

Tijuana fans will not be surprised to find me giving TJ the last place on this list, but anyone claiming that I do not enjoy Tijuana does not read my posts with much thoroughness. Tijuana has tons to offer for the first-time traveler. Convenience make it the #1 place for many, and since I live in San Diego, I spend more time in Tijuana than in any other country in the world except for my own, and I generally have a good to great time. However, that does not blind me from not recognizing TJ's faults nor silence my opinions of how TJ compares and contracts to other countries in the world that I have visited. Being a border town at the world's most popular border crossing creates an environment of visitors unparalled to any other place in the world. For the girls, this means that a popular TJ girl can have 10-20+ clients in a day compared to 1 or in most other countries. At that volume, AVERAGE quality of sessions suffers, both in length (25 minutes average) and services provided (kissing, intimacy, variety, etc...)

Service ranking:
1. Brazil
2. Thailand
3. Philippines
4. Argentina
5. Costa Rica
6. Tijuana
(I have never been to the Dominican Republic)

FINAL COMMENTS
Based on the original post, I would say Costa Rica and Tijuana are probably the top two candidates for Mailman. They are hardly the leaders pricewise, but my reading of the first post suggests that we are looking at a trip of limited length. Most of the other destinations are less cost effective when only looking at a few days. However, if time is not an issue, the Philippines is easily the least expensive with Thailand close behind. If one does not want the trip to consist of solely Asian girls, Brazil would be the next choice.

I strongly recommend at least the first three in my service rankings for any and every guy that can make the trip in their lifetime. You need at least a week, but you will not regret the time you took for one of these vacations. (Unless of course you decide to settle down and are tortured for the rest of your life by giving up the single life)

If convenience is crucial, Tijuana cannot be beat. Being walking distance from the US is a great advantage, and the time you spend in Tijuana will likely be better than the kind of sexual variety and freedom that you can experience in the US.

In conclusion, none of the places I listed is the wrong choice. They all have their own advantages and are all fun places to visit. For more details on all of these places, look through the rest of the site and the trip reports which have tons of information from the prospective of different travelers.

P.S.
Citydude, I believe, is in Europe. Non-US travelers will adjust travel convenience rankings to favor Asia.

Bookguy, if I recall correctly, budget may be an issue with you. Do not forget to include ficha drinks ($6 per if you do not tip), short time room charges ($5 SG, $11 bar girls + $1 optional tip) in addition to your normal hotel and transportation costs ($5 taxi each way if you stay in San Diego, walking should be fine in daytime). Costa Rica to me to be the place you should go, just don't spend a lot of time at the Del Rey. If you have time, visit the beaches and rainforests. You can also do canopy tours, go fishing, or try whitewater rafting, activities you cannot do in Tijuana. TJ has beaches, plus you can go to beach in Rosarito, but they are pretty nasty. If you have a couple weeks or more, I would strongly suggest the top three I suggested above.

GREAT POST! And thanks for keeping me in mind. Your conclusion that CR would be a good destination for me was actually a surprise ... I keep up on the boards about TJ and about DR, but now I've got another danged link to follow. And you, of course, left out the whole issue of airfare cost and airplane travel time, which can be prohibitive for the farther destinations.

By Catocony on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 09:03 pm:  Edit

About Rio and BA, at least from the East Coast, the flights are all redeyes, down and back. For example, I live just a couple of miles from Dulles and United has a direct flight from Dulles to Sao Paulo, with the plane then going on to Rio (same plane, same flight number - easy). During Daylight Savings Time at least, it leaves Dulles at 9:40 P.M. EST, get's into SP about 8:00 A.M. local time the next morning, stays on the ground for a couple of hours and then on for the short 45 minute flight to Rio, where you get in around 11:30 local time. Get through customs, grab a taxi and you should be in Copacabana by 12:30 or so. Basically, from my door at home to the hotel door in Rio, it's about 16 hours, counting getting to the airport, the two flights, layover in SP, customs and taxi in Rio. You can shave about an hour off of that on the way back. The return flight leaves Rio around 6:45 P.M. and arrives Dulles at 6:45 A.M., so again, about 15 hours counting time to and from the airports. Not bad if you can sleep on the plane, particularly coming back.

bookguy/mailman,

D'art has some good info. Persoanlly I wouldn't even put TJ in the same page let alone the same ranking as the other locales. I consider it an ok visit if your nearby and that's about it.

Head to S. America (braz, arg, columbia, peru), CR, or DR in that order of preference if time is tight. DR if the budget and time is tight. If you got some cash and limited time, Germany is tough to beat if your near the east coast.

If you got two weeks rather than 1 SEA is awesome. For a newbie type, pattaya is by far the best locale. AC is a blast, but it depends on your expectations and what your looking for. Singapore is also good, but u need some coin.

Mailman - d'Artagan has great advice and well thought out assessment of each recommended location.

Though my experience is with the PI, Mexico and Panama, I truly believe Panama will give you very much the same experience as can be achieved in Costa Rica. Panama and Costa Rica share a common border. I know Panamanian, Costa Rican, Colombian, & DR women who have worked in Costa Rica then returned to work in Panama. The only criticism I hear of Costa Rica is that the hotels can get a little expensive. I wonder if that could be to Costa Rica having a larger tourist industry?

Panama is often not written about as much as Brazil, Costa Rica, DR, SEA and the Mexican border towns. However, there is much to be said about Panama. Within Panama you will find a mix of all Latin and South America (Colombian, Costa Rican)as well as DR and even SEA at some clubs and massage parlors. Surprisingly, on average, Panamanian chicas make up only 1/2 to a 1/3rd of the working girls.

A 1-hour sexual workout will run you about $60 in most massage parlors. SGs can be found for $20 an hour. Novices who are afraid to haggle, (or is that dicker?)...can pay $100 an hour and even more at the more exclusive clubs. I've also discovered that if you find a girl you like and you invite her to your hotel for a second or third round, the price typically drops and the GFE gets even hotter.

The beauty of Panama other than its natural tropical vistas and super hot Latinas is the country is very US oriented. They exclusively use US paper currency, and their Balboa coins and US coins carry the same denomination and are interchangeable. US style of living is frequently sought in Panama, and Panama City could be mistaken in some ways to Miami. The Panama City drinking water out of the tap is excellent...built by US Army Corps. Hotels even post stickers on the bathroom mirrors bragging about how good and safe the water is. Hotel prices are reasonably priced and if you are satisfied with daily maid service with clean sheets, towels, window ac, hot shower, telephone, Cable TV with CNN and other US channels, but you are not a stickler for 4/5-star luxury, you can get a very good hotel room for only $20 a night. Restaurants in Panama are excellent too...a blend of world-wide cuisine at prices of $5 for lunch and $10-12 for dinner. Cafe de leche with lots of sugar and a hot chica waking up next to me is absolutely amazing in the morning! They even have TGIF, Benigan's, McDonald's, Wendy's, KFC and Pizza Hut in many locations within Panama City. The most expensive dish I ever found was lobster thermador for $19.95 at one of the finer restaurants. Also, English is frequently spoken, perhaps a bit broken, but with a little effort to learn key Spanish words (or use an electronic translator)and average guy can do very well.

Continental, American, and Delta fly to Panama City. Tickets cost about $600 from most northern cities and drop into the $500s from southern cities, to even a little under $400 out of Miami. Real cheap airfares can be found if you are willing to take the time to do a little research on the Internet. Flight time to Panama City is only 3 1/2 hours out of Miami, 4 hours out of Houston and 4 1/2 hours from Atlanta.

No formal Visas are required. You purchase a $5 30-day tourist visa upon arrival in Panama. I am told a passport is not required in country, but I would never travel without.

Taxis can be found anywhere in Panama City during the day and frequently at night. I'd estimate you pay about 10 cents per minute of city driving with most fares costing only $2 or $3.

Taxicab drivers will take you to where you can get laid. After you are a little more experienced, or you do your homework within Club Hombre you can be a very knowledgeable novice on Panama City before you go so you can cut the middleman (driver) out of the take.

I recently spent 15 days in Panama...I got laid everyday...on a few days I got laid by as many as 3 different women (a little help from vitamin V which is easily purchased at any pharmacy without a prescription / $13 for 100mg tablet)...I stayed in a comfortable hotel room, I ate great meals, I rented a car for a few days to drive a couple hours West to beautiful beaches, I chased all over the city via taxi most days, I partied hard in clubs nearly every night, I even spent $80 buying clothes (3 pairs of blue jeans, 3 nice Polo style shirts, 2 t-shirts and a baseball cap) and I paid to repair a broken cell phone for an old girlfriend ($25)...not counting airfare, I spent a total of $2,800...that's less than $200 a day! And I could have done it cheaper if I needed to. If you go for a week, $500 for airfare and $1,000 to $1,200 for incidentals is not out of reach to those who need to be thrifty.

Check the threads on Panama and Panama City...it truly is an Emerald City at dirt cheap prices. I highly recommend it to the first-timer who wants to get away, but yet not too far away.

Also, try to find a trip buddy if you are a little worried the first time.

Have fun out there and get your toes curled whenever you can!

"A 1-hour sexual workout will run you about $60 in most massage parlors. SGs can be found for $20 an hour."

These prices aren't that much different than the prices you can find in almost any Mexican city which doesn't incur such a high travel/time/convenience cost. Hopefully there is a looks/attitude upgrade that justifies the high cost?

By Porker on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 - 09:09 pm:  Edit

D'Art, GREAT post. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm a little surprised that the Phils ranked so high in your opinion, but I guess only seeing you for 20 minutes a day during our time there together meant that you were rather 'productively' busy! :-)

By Alecjamer on Friday, August 27, 2004 - 06:09 pm:  Edit

Porker -

I live only 3 hours from Mexico. I go there all the time because it is convenient. But when I have 2-weeks of vacation, I'll spend $500 on an airline ticket and go to Panama rather than drive 3-hours to Mexico. IMHO Mexico and Panama are very different. I think if you randomly selected 100 chicas in Panama (likely there will be a variety of DM, Colombian, Costa Rican, and Panamanian) and compared them to 100 randomly selected Mexican chicas...you'll likely be much happier with the Panama crowd...overall better variety in Panama.

Also, I believe that Panama's infrastructure is superior to Mexico making the overall mongering experience more comfortable and enjoyable. In Panama the water is safe to drink, the national currency is US paper money, hygiene is better...food born illnesses are less prevalent. Pickpockets and panhandlers are not as prevalent, nor as aggressive as they seem in Mexico. US qualities are engrained within Panamanian society and frequently sought due to the large US influence there...Panama Canal and huge US expat population living there.

Bottomline, Panama keeps a cleaner house and the women tend to be better looking. I definitely recommend Panama for a better quality mongering experience than Mexico. There may be certain exceptions, but for a novice who wants a safer, higher standard mongering vacation...Panama is a better selection....again, IMHO and because I've mongered in both places.

Give it a shot yourself Porker...you won't be disappointed....you'll likely agree the trip is worth it.

Alecjamer,

Excellent explination on a much overlooked destination. I don't know, but for some reason I had it in my mind that Panama was EXPENSIVE. Must of read that somewhere. Since you've been there and report otherwise, sounds like a great place.

I wonder about the feasibility of flying to Panama and using it as a jumping off point for local exploration and then a short hop to Colombia.

I just wish I made enough net income to support my gross habits...

Alex, if you really want to try a ladyboy/he-she go to Thailand. They/it are all over the place.

You won't get much competition from the majority of us Hombres, as we go there for the real thing.

To each his own, good luck in your pursuit of happiness.

By Motown on Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - 08:20 pm:  Edit

well i have been to the usuals as in banana, tiger, tai pan and the surrounding bars.
where are good places in phuket town? or otehr areas?

By Wombat88 on Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - 09:31 pm:  Edit

Well, most of the other little beach towns (villages really) have beer bars, but nothing like Patong. After you've explored the two bar areas of Pataong (you do know there are two, right?), you have a few options open to you. Phuket town has a couple of massage clubs. I can't really recommend them because there's simply no place like Bangkok for a good soapy. Your tastes and budget may differ from mine, however.

It seems to me I did a Phuket guide at some point, but I'll be damned if I can find it here. Crazier has put together a very informative piece on Phuket town here.

I'd visited the bars of Karon and Kata and found some honeys there. These places are small and a lot more laid back. I never had a chance to explore the bar areas north of Patong (e.g. Surin) as I never got past my favorite private beach, Laem Sing.

If you're looking for a wild time, no sense in leaving Patong. If you're looking for a bit of adventure, rent a motorbike and explore (but dearl lord don't drink).

Let me know when you go, I have a mission or two for you.

By Motown on Wednesday, June 08, 2005 - 12:16 am:  Edit

did i hear missions? hehe
i stayed in kata once before it was fairly laid back like you said, i intend to visit that beach bar the one made inside of that huge tree ( if it survived the tsunami that is) i was thinking of staying in patong or phuket town this time ( still undecided ) considering it will probably be raining bucket loads i dont want to be stranded somewhere in the middle of no where. also i intend to rent a jeep this trip as i dont want to be minced on hamburger hill! now what are those missions mister?

By Wombat88 on Wednesday, June 08, 2005 - 12:27 pm:  Edit

Good morning, Mr. Phelps. The aquatic catastrophie that struck the region of Phuket has been well documented. However, there are some specific details which require on-the-ground coverage. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to investigate the following locals:

Louis' Restaurant -- is located right at the end of the only road that extends directly to the beach (it's a sort of extention to Sawatdirak Rd.). There are a few restaurants in that area, but Louis' is the first. It was well known for having bamboo chairs instead of those hideous plastic things that have overrun so much of South East Asia. The restaurant serves some of the best/cheapest garlic prawns I've ever had. One of the waitresses stands about 4'10" and is terminally cute with her big half-moon eyes.

LouisResto
Not that it helps, but Louis' place is right under this tree.

Laem Sing -- is the beach no one knows about (until now) as it can only be reached by foot (down a rather steep trail). Actually a surprising number of Farang make it there so I suspect it's been written up in Lonely Planet or some such. It's a great place to take a date for a day of relaxation. I made friends with the folks at restaurant at the bottom of the trail by the big rocks (you can see it in the image below).

g'day
i must report back witha failed mission.. not too happy about my whole phuket experience as i had to deal with lost bag/passport reissue visa dilema that really knocked me about a bit.. nonetheless tsunami damage to most parts of phuket upto kata noi is minimal most (90%) of shops/bars are operational all in all phuket is on the bounce again. :s
