Right now there are a ton of new free and paid applications for people that have an Iphone or Itouch device. Lonely Planet has a free phrasebook with audio. Normally these phrasebook applications are $10 so this is great for those planning on mongering in China. There is also an audio dictionary for Mandarin. If you want to shell out $10, there is an audio phrasebook for Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese. Basically, you can learn the language and/or just press a button and have phrases said to your girl until you understand the language.

Plenty of other cool applications for free also, including a Portuguese language guide. This is a step up from plain podcasts.
