I have scheduled a return trip to Rio (Jan 10-17), but have heard of some good things about Lima. I am not sure which to trip confirm, but it would be nice to find a wing man or an experienced guide for either trip.

Lima can be fun, but Rio is by far the better place for mongering. They are far from comparable.

Lima vs Rio - can't be compared! As LA mentioned, Rio is a better place for monger, actually MUCH better.

but if you want to have some great non pro experiences go to lima.. if you can speak a little spanish and dress nice, you can set up some good non pro dates ..

All of you have made excellent points that I can only reiterate. If and when you decide to go to Peru, see Machhu Pichu and include Lima and some of it's ammenities.

Overall Rio's beaches, termas, and women are incomparable. I would return to Rio for a second visit using your prior knowledge to insure an even better trip and experience. Save Peru for another time.

non pro experiences.....WHEW!!!! Rio has TONS of them! The difference is that things are much more casual in Rio. In Rio your basic going out attire (including getting into nightclubs) is tennis shoes, jeans, and just a plain t-shirt. I have quite a bit of experience with both - I have been to Lima many times (and even married -and divorced- a Peruvian), but in the end Rio women are hard to beat. That is why I got divorced from my Peruvian woman :-) But that is another story entirely.

In one aspect, however, Rio is very similar to Lima. To meet the middle and upper class takes a little skill and work. The lower non pro class is easy in either place. To meet the university educated upper crust type is more difficult.

I remember going to nightclubs in Lima and seeing guys barely talking to the girls. In Rio, everybody is talking, playing, and ultimately kissing.

I just joined CH but I've traveled extensively in Mexico. I visit Tijuana so often the girls think I live there. I'm planning my first trip to Rio this winter, with a side trip to Medallin, Columbia. I would like some prices on economical and 1/2 way clean lodging, not far from the action and the beach. It would be great to meet up with 2 or 3 Hombres for safety and mongering. I speak some Spanish and will be studying Portugese.
