This foundation is the Dutch national centre for research, documentation, public information, policy development and advice on the issue of prostitution and related phenomena. The foundation is subsidised by the Dutch government but fully independant.

Let me provide my own view on the situation in the Netherlands. I will be quoting prices in guilders – the current exchange rate is about 38 dollars = 100 guilders. The prices may have recently gone up by as much as 20% as the government has recently fully legalized prostitution so that it can collect the value-added tax (sales tax) on these “personal services” transactions. However, the economic slowdown in Europe and the increased competition that the Internet has caused may have kept prices stable.

First, my experience and that of others with whom I have talked is that there is a very high awareness of the risks of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases among the working girls in the Netherlands. Everything is done with condoms. Extremely few girls will allow a BBBJ with cuming in their mouths – except for the drug-addicted street girls. Some will allow a sort of BBBJ – except that they will hold their hand on the head. Anal is can be found, and usually involves an additional fee of between 50 and 250 guilders (i.e., if a girl’s usual fee was 150 guilders, she may want 50 guilders for anal – but high-end escorts who want 250 guilders per hour may want to an additional 250 guilders for anal) - and double bagging. Most girls will let you do Russian only as foreplay. So if you don’t like condoms, you won’t like the Netherlands. The exception is handjobs, of course.

Second, almost all of the girls speak English. You will once in a while encounter a recent arrival from Eastern Europe or Latin America whose English is minimal. Some of these girls are cunning linguists – they speak Dutch, English, French, Russian and German!

Third, if you are interested in anything out of the ordinary (such as trios or BDSM,) just ask – they will let you know if it can be arranged – for an extra price. If things are slow and you are lucky, you might be offered a trio without asking, for less than double the usual price!

Fourth, the Internet has had a big impact of the sex business in the Netherlands. There are many sites on where you can see pictures and read descriptions on the girls and the clubs and houses. Some of the sites have an English flag that you can click on and go to an English language version of the site.

There are seven major parts to the sex business in the Netherlands: escort services, private girls, private houses, sex clubs, sex shops, window girls, and street girls. Girls do not necessarily limit themselves to one part.

Escorts: There are a large number of escort services operating in the Netherlands. The cost is between 250 guilders and 500 guilders an hour, with discounts given if you arrange for more than one hour or an entire evening. The women in this area are primarily from Western or Eastern Europe. Some of these women also do incalls at their own apartment – called “privee”. Many of these women work in private houses or sex clubs when they are not on a call. Some of the escorts are Dutch women who are housewives who escort for the extra cash.

Private girls: These women do incall, called “privee”, at their apartment. The cost is between 150 and 300 guilder an hour. Like some of the escorts, some of the private girls are Dutch housewives who do this for the extra cash.

Private houses (prive huis or privehuis): These are brothels that do not advertise on the street level – they just look like any door in a street. Generally the smaller and less expensive ones do not serve alcohol (they do not have a license). How do you find them? Two ways: first, if you are in the Netherlands pick up the newspaper (such as “The Telegraf”) and look through the classified section for “Sex Clubs” or “Prive Huis” The ads that say “Prive Huis” will give their street address, sometimes a phone number, and will list the girls by name, with their ages, possibly their cup size, and maybe their skin color. If you are outside of the Netherlands and are planning a trip go to a web search site and type “prive huis” or ‘privehuis” as the topic and follow the links.

In a private house located in an urban center, you enter the door and will find yourself at the foot of a flight of stairs. You go up one floor, and will come to another door, where you ring the bell. Someone will look you over and let you into a small room, where you can have a cup of coffee or a cold non-alcoholic drink, and sit on a couch and meet the available girls. There is no charge for this sitting and chatting, but you are generally expected to make a decision in about 15 minutes. If no one appeals to you, say “Thank you, goodbye” (Dank u; Alstublieft) and leave. The price at a private house is generally 100 to 150 for 30 minutes, and you can purchase as much time as you want. You can also arrange trios at these private houses relatively easy. There are various extras available for an extra charge. You negotiate what you want, pay the fee, and go to a room. Generally the girls are European. I generally find “prive huis” to be best way to enjoy the game – but for those who like to shop around then the sex clubs and window girls may be better.

Sex clubs: These are brothels that are clearly marked as sex clubs from the street. Some have free admission, others charge between 10 guilders (which may include one free drink) to 100 guilders (which includes all the free drinks you want while you are there for one evening). The typical range is between 25 guilders and 75 guilders, for which you receive between 2 and 5 tickets for drinks. Some of those with “free” admission do have a one-drink policy. When you enter you pay your admission in a small area to the door-keeper (usually a rather large gentleman who appears to be a former defensive end from a US football team) will go over the prices. They range from 100-250 guilders for half an hour to 180-400 guilders for an hour. There is a big range in the club prices – generally, those that advertise the most and have reputations like Yab Yum charge higher. In some clubs there is a surcharge of between 50-75 guilders for a room with a Jacuzzi tub. In general, the fee does not include extra like a BBBJ or anal or a second “shot on goal” (as the English say) – that is something negotiated with the girl and is usually done by an extra tip. It is my understanding that the government regulates the size of the cut that the club takes from the fee.

In most of them the girls are clothed, but in some they are topless. The size of the sex clubs ranges from as few as two or three girls on duty during the day to as many as 35 girls in some of the largest clubs at night. The girls are from all over the world: western and eastern Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America, and Asia. They almost all speak English.

For your admission you can sit as long as you want, talking with the girls who choose to come up to you, and you are free to sit down next to a girl and start a conversation. In many of the clubs the girls will ask for you to buy them a drink – which can run 25 guilders to 75 guilders. The girls get part of that, but this is where the clubs make a big share of their revenues. A drink is generally worth about 20-30 minutes of groping in a corner of the club. The clubs are usually decorated in red and black, with dim lighting. Many of the girls smoke, but some clubs to have good ventilation so that the rooms are not smoky.

Some of the larger clubs have strip shows, lesbian or dildo acts – most of the clubs will have porno movies showing on big screen TVs. Part of the fun is watching a porno film with a topless girl who is stroking the inside of your thigh while you discuss your mutual preferences for different positions and critique the performance on the screen – knowing that you can go up stairs when you feel like it.

When you have made you choice, she and you go to the small area near the door, where you pay the door-keeper, and she gets a key (and towels) for the room. You almost always then walk up a flight of stairs to the room. The rooms are very nice and clean, well air-conditioned in the summer, comfortably warm in the winter. If there is a Jacuzzi in the room she will want you to start there – and sometimes it happens that people spend the whole time in the bath.

After your time with the girl, you descend back to the bar. Sometimes the girls will ask you to buy them another drink and will want to sit with you and talk for a while before you or they go. The girls do understand that you might want to do someone else, and so will leave you alone – and sometimes they will suggest a friend of theirs for your second trip upstairs.

You can lose all sense of time in a sex club – and spend a lot of money. Some do take credit cards, but will add a surcharge of around 10% if you want to give them plastic.

In summary, there is a great deal of variation in sex clubs – just as there is a great deal of variation in the girls. While the costs are more than in “private house”, the scene itself can be a lot of fun.

Sex shops: These are a somewhat recent development in the past 10-15 years in Holland. These look like shops from the street that sell erotica – books, magazines, videos, and so forth. Admission is free. In these shops they also have video rooms. You can pick a film and rent it at the sales counter – and included in the rental the clerk will give you a price list for having a girl come into the video room and provide either a hand job, a BJ, or full service – with usually three options for the time in the room: 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Think carefully: if you buy a 15 minute hand job and decide after starting that you want a 30 minute BJ, the girl will ask for the difference in the fee and leave the room and take it to the counter – and while she is doing that the clock is ticking. In all of the sex shops the girls are clothed. In some sex shops the girls are sitting on a couch in the back of the room, and one will come forward (they work on rotation). If she is not your type, you can ask to meet another one. In some shops you do not meet the girl until she comes to the room - if the girl who comes to the room is not quite what you prefer, you can ask her to send another one, if one is available. The size of the sex shops ranges from as few as one girl on duty during the day to as many as 5 girls in some of the larger shops at night. Like the sex clubs, the girls are from all over the world, but overall they are not quite as attractive as the girls in the sex clubs. Most speak English. In these shops there is no alcohol, but sometimes you might get offered a soft drink or water – or be offered the option of paying for a cold drink. The video rooms are adequate. After your time with the girl, you leave the sex shop.

Window Girls: The most famous and largest area for window girls is in Amsterdam. Almost all other Dutch cities have eliminated window girls, while allowing private houses, sex clubs and sex shops. There are two small window girl areas in The Hague. Still, the main Amsterdam window girl area has an excitement to it. I would like to share some of my thoughts about how to have successful times with window girls, based on my own experiences and those of others with whom I have talked. I have had wonderful time with window girls, without asking all of the questions that I suggest below, but I have also been burned. You could learn the same lessons that I have learned without reading this, but life is too short for bad mongering
(1) Unlike the private houses, sex clubs and sex shops, there are no set fees, although the girls do try to enforce a fee schedule. But it really is just between you and the girl. She will offer a price for a service and/or a period of time, and you need to counter offer with the exact amount of time and service that you want. Be careful: if a girl says “75 guilders for fuck/suck “ she may mean, “75 guilders for either a suck or fuck, but not both, and with my clothes on, and you cannot touch or suck my breasts.” Be sure to be very clear as to the price they want and exactly what they will do and for how much time. Be sure to stipulate that you want them to be nude, naked, undressed, or whatever. Otherwise the girl may claim that the price she quoted didn't include removing her clothing. I once ended up paying 225 guilders for what I thought was going to be 75 guilders. (Should I have gotten up and walked out? Yes – but I wasn’t think with the head between my shoulders.) When you start to negotiate about explicitly what will happen, the girl might quickly say something like “100 guilders for everything”. Still, get her to agree to whatever you want. “100 guilders for everything” may mean to her that she will be nude and will suck with condom and fuck with condom in one position until you cum, or 30 minutes, whatever happens first, when you may want her nude, a suck without condom and then a fuck with condom in three positions until you cum, or 30 minutes, whatever happens last. Also, before handing over any money show her your watch and get her to agree to the time when the session will end – some girls have clocks that run fast. If the girl really doesn’t want to come to an explicit agreement, move on. You can try to not hand over the money until afterwards – good luck – it never worked for me – I tried showing it to them, but saying that they would get it afterwards. No go – they want it in their hand before you start.
(2) I generally avoid window girls who display any outlandish behavior -- such as jiggling around their room, or pulling their breast out of their bra, or opening up the window/door and calling to you, or rapping on the glass with their knuckles – in order to attract attention. Girls who do that kind of display generally have very few repeat customers because their performance is not good. On the other hand, sometimes during a week day in the winter the business is so slow that a girl who is good will act up to get your interest. In general, at night or on the weekends the window girls that are worth their fee have no need attract attention. They will sit demurely in the window like a businesswoman with satisfied customers. One of the best times I had was with a girl who sat towards the back of the room, almost in the shadows, who only came forward when I wanted to chat with her. She was in no rush to negotiate, was straightforward and honest, and once the negotiation was over provided excellent service.
(3) The girls who have a hostile attitude toward all customers will generally never smile while speaking to you – their lack of interest is apparent. They will generally avoid eye contact, and answer your questions with short responses spoken in a sullen manner.
(4) While speaking to her at the doorway of her cabin, check to see if there is a full glass of water within her reach – especially if it is not a hot day. Some window girls will throw a glass of water at customers they regard as annoying or a nuisance. That glass of water speaks volumes as to the attitude the girl has toward customers and the degree of civility she has towards people in general. Even if it is hot the girl will likely have a bottle of water in the room, not a glass.
(5) Say something complimentary or funny – like “You are the most beautiful girl in Amsterdam” or “I am lost – where is the railroad station?” or “Do you sell bras and panties here?” or “You have wonderful eyes – and your legs and breasts are nice too.” Most girls who understand a bit of English will respond with a smile or laughter. The hostile girls will react as though you were an idiot.
(6) While speaking to you through the door, beware if the girl frequently turns her head and glances through the window to see if there are any other customers outside. She may simply want to get rid of you as soon as possible, and if she ends your negotiation to speak to some other monger, don’t be annoyed – he is going to get ripped-off.
(7) If you detect the slightest hint of bitchiness or arrogance, keep your wallet in your pants and head for the door. If you ever encounter a window girl who acts as though she's doing you a big favor by speaking to you, avoid at all costs, literally. She's not worth your time or money.
(8) It is my understanding that the going rate for a fuck or a suck is 50-75 guilders and 100-150 guilders for a fuck & suck – but that is usually for 15-20 minutes. If you want the girl to be nude, and you want multiple positions, and some fondling, you might have to go to 175 or 200 guilders for 30-40 minutes. So in some ways the private houses or sex shops can be a better value – and with less of the hassle.

Street Girls: I have seen street girls in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, but have never gone with them. The vast majority of them are heroin addicts – some are HIV-positive – and are simply trying to separate you from your money as quick as possible, with as little service as possible. The Dutch police are trying to end street prostitution, and trying to keep the trade in private houses, sex clubs and sex shops wherever possible.

So remember that everything will be safe.

While the weather may not be great, the overall volume of clients drops in November and December when the Dutch are saving up for Christmas presents. The girls are also trying to save up for the holidays, so they too want extra cash.

Also, you're pricing commentary is very consistent with my experiences. I've done the full range beginning with suck only for $75 NG (girl topless)all the way to $250 NG for multiple positions for 45-60 minutes.

What I typically do when I'm searching for a new gal is to start off with the $75 NG program and see how it goes. If the attitude seems poor (i.e. all clothes stay on and she barely sucks), I just call it a day and walk out happy. No reason to get pissed off.

If things go well, I'll get up and get some more cash out of my pants on the chair and do my best to get the gal to reset the clock a bit. If this piece goes well, I log the gal into my memory as a possible repeat and go ahead and pay for the full program upfront on my next visit to her.

One thing I hate is the dreaded position change charge (usually $50 NG for a third position after paying your $100 NG or so). I've had trouble eliminating this additional charge but I've managed to maintain my sanity.

The extra charges during the session really annoy me. That is why I prefer the private houses or sex clubs than the window girls - the negotiation is easier sitting on a couch than standing on the street, with a crowd of Japanese tourists taking your picture talking to the girl. (Which is another reason why some girls have a glass of water - to throw on unwanted photographers.)
