I also paid US $40 for one night. I rented a standard room and left -- when I got back, they upgraded me to the next level room. I'm not sure why. This place is in Costambar, just off of Puerto Plata.

Rooms: Awesome. The bed was new and firm. The bathroom was clean. There was a little couch area and table to sit in. The TV was hanging from the wall and swiveled easily. I don't remember about the blackout curtains. The window was at an angle that the light didn't shine on the bed. The jacuzzi was new, large and beautiful. Overall, the property is beautiful.

Note: The refrigerators in the rooms are pre-stocked mini bars. At reasonable prices. This ruled, as I hate making the 3am Presidente runs for the chicas. And the concept of a refigerator with stuff in it appeals to them.

Location: Sucks big time. Not only is it a bitch to get to Costambar (two motoconchas if you don't drive), but Costambar is dark at night. I got lost the first time, until I figured out and memorized the turns. If you have a car or know where you want to go by taxi, you have all of Puerto Plata to monger in. Principe, a Car Wash and Scape are close and it is a small trip to El Bohen. Krystal and the Long Beach bars are at the other end of town.

Girls On-Site: I can't really say. When I reserved my room, I was in and out in five minutes, and when I got back with my date, it was 2 am. Don't know the prices, either.

The hotel is located approx. 5 minutes out of Puerto Plata. That means 5 minutes to El Bohen, 5 minutes to Scape, 7 minutes to Mountainview and about 10 minutes to Long Beach/Crystals. What does this mean? Lots of PUTAS!! The taxis out of Costambar seem to be almost fixed price (the most I paid was $150 pesos ($6.00) to Crystals. You can negotiate better on your way home and it's even cheaper on the motoconchos (I paid as little as $60 from the Mountainview.)

The owner of Blackbeards is John. This guy is a worker! He's a great guy and although he is constantly running he always find time to sit down and have a beer with ya. He is really putting a lot of work into this place and it shows! If you have any problem or question, he will make sure it's taken care of! These guys are packed with info and will help you with anything you need.

Now one of the main reason that I chose BB's was the style of hotel that I like. I want to have my own pool, jacuzzi, fridge, rest. and bar. I have spent too many nights in $5.00 hotels in Thailand (anyone remember honey house in pattya?) and I don't want to, nor do I have to do that anymore! But as many of you know having all these amenities don't mean a thing in the third world if you don't have good service! There's nothing worse than ordering your coffee and having some blanked face slob shuffling around in there flip flops why you nurse your hangover. Well you won't get that here. The bar/kitchen staff is almost all Dominican (Except for Karen! A great lady, great cook, and a great person to talk to!) and I miss them all! Great service and always with a smile. Most of the girls are studying English at night and enjoy practicing with you! I want to add that these are not working girls! Just sweet young things making an honest living!

The rooms are all very clean and serviced daily. I was in bed everyday until at least noon and I never had a problem getting the room cleaned. They have many different available.

I was able to get one of the nicer singles on the same day due to a cancellation.

The rooms and grounds were excellent. Pictures are below. I was very impressed with the look and feel of the place.

A pool table, two dart boards, a large swimming pool and a secluded jacuzzi are available for extra-curricular activity. The jacuzzi is supposedly available at any time of the day or night, discretion is advised of course.

Ladies of various quality in looks are available on-site. Two of them that offered their services to me quoted an outrageous price of $100 US each. This amounts seems to be not too far from the total fees at the high-end clubs El Bohen and Cristal, but was way too much for a short time day session. They may have been exceptions to the norm or just thought I had a lot of money as I've read of more reasonable rates quoted by the ladies here.

I would not put too many expectations in finding your ladies here anyhow, most activity will be found in Puerto Plata at the night clubs. However, if you are one that doesn't like going to clubs and prefer having everything in one place, Blackbeard's is perfect for you. John may be of assistance in finding the right lady for you and may possibly assist in negotiating an appropriate price.

My only real complaint as of December 2003 was their "free" internet service. They have a single computer that shares a dial-up connection with a public phone line. Thoughout the day, the phone or computer were occupied.

Costumbar is also outside of Puerto Plata, so you do pay a little more for the taxis.

I recommend Blackbeard's as a place to stay, but I can't say much of the ladies except that the two I met overquoted me significantly.

In October I went to the d.r., stayed at Blackbeards (Barba Negra) in Costambar (just outside Puerto Plata).

Excellent week there, weather 98 deg F plus most every day.

Girls: Lots to choose from, right at the hotel, or look thru their book, select, and they will call and have her brought to you!

Most of the girls there want 1500 pesos ($75 cdn) for 1 - 4 hours, but will negotiate down to a max of 1000 pesos ($50.00).

Decided on an all nighter a couple of times, 11:00 a.m. arrived, had fun all day, went to town, bar hopped, back to hotel, Jacuzzi for a while, then to the room till 9:00 am the next day - $100.00 cdn.

Great place for Hobbying!

I have stayed at blackbeards several times and it is a awsome place. Going back to when Alberto was running it to when Ricardo took over to today run by John. It is nice for shorter stays, but i tend to go a month at a time from time to time. I am now rent apartments. I had a 1 bedroom spacious in costamber for 150.00 for the month I had a two bedroom directly behind blackbeards pool 300.00 for the month. I also find when yo get the girls to places away from the resort style atmosphere. You tend to get better attitudes prices, and service when you get them out of the meat market of a hotel/club. I pay 35.00 to 50.00 depending on the lady that usually includes full service plus pics, and video. Here is some of the talent i came accross

I just returned from 2 weeks at Blackbeards and had an absolutely wonderful time. For my tastes the place is perfect. John, the owner, and the managers David and Ian run an excellent establishment and go out of their way to make sure all their guests have whatever they desire. They specifically cater to single men and open minded couples looking to combine a tropical vacation with sexy girls.

It's a small hotel, about 20 rooms, built around a courtyard containing a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and a wonderful large, secluded, sexually active, jacuzzi. Everything is spotlessly clean and in excellent repair.

The hotel's "associates" are available in the bar for most of the day and until about 11:00 at night. 4 to 7 PM seem to be prime time with at least 10, maybe 20 girls hanging out looking for business. They're all young, dark skinned, smiling, fun loving girls of various shapes, sizes, and beauty.

Since all the guests are there with a common goal in mind it's easy to strike up a conversation and make friends. It's a perfect place for a solo traveler to have all the sex he wants and in the interim periods hang out and talk with like-minded fellow travelers.

The DR is a cheap place. I went top shelf and rented the penthouse. I consumed the minibar's contents the majority of the nights and ate at least one meal in the restaurant every day and put it on the tab. I also bought countless beers in the bar on my tab and sometimes using cash. My tab per day was a little over $100. Of course the price of sex varies. I probably over paid at $50 per.

A 5 to 10 minute walk to the west leads to a fantastic beach. Coral reefs just off shore break the waves and provide a wonderful place to swim in warm, clear, calm water. There are trees along the beach offering shade from the strong sun and house several "grass shack" type bars and restaurants. Beers are under a dollar and 4 dollars will buy a plate of chicken, rice, and beans. Lounge chairs are available for a dollar per day.

I went to this beach every day and made friends with Senada, Leonardo, and Madam at the east end of the beach. Senada runs the "Cafeteria", a yellow plywood shack, 70 cent cold beers, Leonardo rents the chairs, and Madam is the old Haitian woman who carries 40 pounds of fruit on her head. Make sure you get a pina colada from her. It's a real treat, comlete with Brugal rum if you like. She prepares and serves it in the pineapple. It's the real thing. I also bought and coconuts, oranges, and bananas from her every day.

No doubt, this was the best vacation I ever had, largely due to the people at Blackbeard's, the nearby beach, and the incredible value.

P.S. I rented a car and visited the other popular North Coast destinations of Confesi, Playa Dorada, Sosua, and Cabarete. I would never stay in any of these places. Awful, mega-resort, over-priced, tourist traps. Not my style, not even close.

Just completed a trip to DR, Puerto Plato. Stayed at BlackBeards Resort. Place is nice and clean, staff very friendly and women great. The resort is located close to the beach and about 15mins from downtown Puerto Plato. There are always plenty of pretty women available in the resort, check out there website!

The rates are pretty standard 1500 peso for a couple of hours and about 2500/3000 peso for the night. The resort has reasonable food and drinks are fairly priced, just be a bit careful that the girls don't hit you for to many drinks and the odd meal or two. Personally I think its good to treat them nice they reward you later.
If you get fedup with the girls at the resort try the two main local night clubs, excellent ladies a bit expensive but real stunners. Can't remember the club names but the staff at Blackbeards will point you in the right direction. What else can I say had a great week full of drink, food and sex.

There are frequent power cuts in DR. Though Blackbeards has a generator, it does not power the Air conditioners. It does though run the A/C's in the 'D' block rooms (D-1, D-2, D-3).

If you can't sleep in a hot humid room, I suggest asking for these rooms.

I flew in on American Airlines Miami to Puerto Plata for $465.00 r/t. You will need to purchace a tourist card for U.S. $10.00 upon arrival first thing before immigration and customs. The airport is approx. 25 minutes from downtown Puerto Plata. When reserving a room at Blackbeards they offered to have someone pick me up at the airport for $35.00. I took them up on it and the guy was waiting there for me just outside the exit door with the resort and my name on a card. I think this is a couple of dollars over arrainging your own transportation, but recommend it for the convienience and safety. The resort is located in a beachside residential enclave where mostly Americans and Europeans stay. Inside you will find a few restaurants, shops, and a pharmacy ( vitamins V/L/C avail. without script ). There are 2 bldgs. in this small resort. The first where you check in has 5 rooms. The second bldg. is newer with more and from what I saw a bit nicer rooms. *note they say that the back-up generator does not run the a/c's when the power goes out (will happen regularly). I stayed in room D-2 in the smaller first bldg. and it definitely did run mine, so you decide. The rooms are a bit spartan, but very fairly priced, the king sized bed was good, and the a/c was cold. Between the two bldgs. is the pool, a patio bar, and a thatch roofed open air eating area. A very relaxing area that they do a very nice job of maintaining. I had several meals there and the food is good and reasonably priced. When I checked in David, the general manager gave me an info sheet wich included a price list for the chica's + - $45 for 1-2 hrs. and + - $95 for overnight. There are usually at least a few chica's around the bar/pool area to choose, it will depend also on the # of guests staying there at the time. DR ladies are darker skinned than most latinas with damned few of them in need of any breast augmentation!!! IMHO I would rate the selection in the 5-8 range for looks, with friendly willing attitudes running very high. Though they are not the finest the DR has to offer I always found someone "interesting" to hang out with, and they don't seem to mind you not staying with the same one twice, I never did. You will need to "bone" up on your spanish or bring a dictionary as many of the chica's don't speak english. If you go , you will want to road test the jacuzzi. They say it's the largest in the DR. A nice freeform unit surrounded in tropical landscaping, where anything goes. Pick 2 or 3 of your favoritas and be a rock star for the night!!!Trust me on this one, you will not regret it. All in all I had a nice relaxing 4 days there and look forward to a repeat.

Hmmm, this place is sounding more interesting all the time....

Okay here are the Pros & Cons....

Pros

1) Its economical, in everything, first off the rooms go for 35 Standard, 45 Single Deluxe, 55 Jacuzzi Suite, and 90 Penthouse.

The Standard was a little to small in my opinion but it is livable. I personally preffer the Single the Deluxe since it gives you room and its still very nice. The Jacuzzi suite was not worth the extra 10 dollars in my opinion, the Jacuzzi isnt exactly start of the art (resebles more of a bathtub than a real jacuzzi) and the room was just too big for my tastes. Now the Penthouse on the other hand is the bomb, i met two canadians who stayed there and raved about it, you have a living room, your own bar, two rooms, and one party capacity bathroom. All rooms come with TV's and mini fridge, the minifridge is great because you can really afford the stuff and the cable is decent, HBO, Showtime, CNN.

2)The chicas, there are some fuglies but there are also some very sweet jems, their regulated by the house so its very rare youll have a problem with any of the girls since they would get banned, also the rates are resonable 50 bucks for a few hours and 100 for all day and night, although i hear that you can even negotiate for lower!

3)Security is great unlike other hotels in DR, you will not be hounded by beggars and anoying salesmen, trust me on this you have not been hounded until you are hounded by a dominican, short of running or beating the shit out of them they will not stop. Blackbeards and Costambar has great security and keeps the pests away..

4)Good beach, the beach is across the street ive been on better beaches but ive been in worse its pretty convinient to just skip across the beach and relax.

5)Breakfast is the bomb, i really did enjoy it last time, and they give you big portions at a decent price.

CONS

1)Boredom, the girls come in from 2PM to 10pm witht the peak being about 5 or 6PM, if you cant sleep till noon (like me) you will be pretty bored since there is no entertainment other than the pool and a pool table. My recomndation is bring a book, sing up for one of the tours or explore the neighboorhood. Either that or take a cab out of their which also kinda sucks because cabbies are expensive, they charged me 20 bucks to drive me 10 minutes out the road to the local ATM to get money. 20 bucks for a 10 minute ride! The only time cabbies are econimical is pretty much at night when you take one out to the clubs, this when you can hussle good deals with them by negotiating.

2)NO PHONE. Yeah no Phones in the rooms only one house phone in the lobby which you need to buy a phone card from the bar (just a few bucks) to use. This wouldnt be so bad but they share the same line with the public internet (still i heard they finally got DSL) and sometimes the chicas are lazy and use the house phone to make local calls.

3)Food is hit or miss. Like i said earlier breakfast is great but lunch on the other hand is a gamble try not to order anything with cheese, personally i couldnt stand domincan cheese i mostly stuck with the chicken wings dipped in honey garlic sauce. Dinner was also equally bad, i recomend walking up the road to the italian resturant owned by an itallian/dominican family excellent dishes. There are also other resturants in the neighboorhood.

4)Girls like i said the girls are great there is only one thing you have to look out for with these girls. Its your spending habbits, there have been incidents where if your the type to be charging things to your room girls have gone on the bandwagon and ordered drinks and food for them and their friends. Do what i do keep the charges to a minimum and pay in cash.

I thought paying 55-60USD for LT with these ho's was too much (when it was 36:1), at current exchange rates no way... Fly a little father/longer and pay much less for much better quality.

Other than thailand what place are you talking about?

toss a dart towards anywhere in asia and it will blow it away in terms of quality and cost.

if we're talking straight pops/sex, I find montreal and surrounding areas preferable.

It's not jus the coin, its the quality:coin ratio.

I've never been, but Columbia looks to vastly exceed it in terms of price and quality as well.

Black Beards is still alive and kicking and a great jump off point to start your trip. I found that it was a lot more relaxed then when I went it a alone in Sosusa. Don't get me wrong I had a blast there two but most times it was more of a hassle and hustle.

I just got back from DR last nite, with a 5 days/4nite stay at Blackbeard's. My stay was pleasant and it was my first trip to the DR after numerous trips to Thailand, PI, Korea, China and the rest of ASia. Report to follow. Mojo.

About 40 dollars for ST and 80-100 for LT. this is negotiable. If they do anal, they will ask for a "propena' (tip) for the effort. I only had maybe one bad apple in the bunch, not bad, considering the crap I've had to glean thru in Thailand at times. mojo
