I am a LOS vet and am making my first trip to Sosua. I can get a free ticket to SD. So the Palace hotel will pick me up and drive me for $85 each way. They say it is a 4hour drive. I have several question. Is this a reasonable rate? is the hotel nice? Can you fly reasonably and reliably to POP from SD and at what cost? I hope someone out there is willing to help.

Hey TMan. RT here. Let's see:

1. It IS a four-hour ride each way, so $85 is in the ballpark. Maybe a few dollars high, but nothing outrageous. Gas is $1.75 per gallon. You can take a bus for something like 3 or 4 dollars, but then you lose a bunch of time each way.

2. There IS a flight for Santo Domingo to POP. I work in POP and we investigated a private flight for a meeting once. My boss is a pilot, and after talking to the flight people, he wasn't filled with confidence. We drove and stopped in Santiago both ways.

3. The Sosua Palace - Well, if you're looking for all the modern comforts, you'll be sadly disappointed. However, if you're looking for a centrally-located, fairly reasonably priced, monger-friendly (hell, it's monger-ONLY) hotel with the added bonus of girls on site, you'll be OK. Me, I stay at the Europa and find my own girls. But I find the hotel-aspects important.

Hey thanks for the advice! I like a nice hotel too. So help me out. The Palace was going to have car there for me. How do I go about getting reliable transportation without them sending a car? Is there a service I can go to upon arrival? I have been enough places I am a little skeptical to get just any cab and ask him to take me. Any more help would be appreciated.
