I usually work/hang/monger on the North Coast, but I flew home from Santiago this morning, so I got to stay in town last night.

I went to Ilusion at around 11:30pm. It turns out that Tuesday night (until christmas) is Santa Night. All the girls are dressed as Santas! Red hat, red skirt, red tube top -- just adorable. I only wish that they let me take a picture.

There were about thirty girls there, ranging from very young looking to 30, tops. They went from average to very attractive.

The place was COLD. And, like the rest of the country -- too loud.

They charged me a 50 peso admission fee. It was no big deal, considering drinks were not a ripoff (RD20 water, RD50 Miller Gen Draft).

At about 12:30, there was a semblance of a show. Smoke, and one and a half songs for each of two girls. They both went to naked very quickly. The second girl was outstandingly beautiful. All I could think of while I stared was, "Yo quiero".

When she emerged from getting dressed, I sat with her and bought her a beer. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no connection between us. Maybe it was the drooling I was doing, but I don't think so. She seemed more interested in hanging with her friends, so I kissed her on the cheeck and left her to her amigas.

I then approached a cute flaca blonde who had been giving me the eye every so often. We joked a bit and, since her personality was not surgically removed, I asked if she had a room on site. She said no, but there were cabanas. Good enough for me. RD2,000, she quoted. I probably could have talked her down a little, but I didn't bother.

The room was clean and had an air conditioner and bathroom. I spent a lovely 45 minutes with this young lady (I'm bad at names) and was in a cab and back at my hotel by 3 am.

Other than the volume, this seems like a nice place. The waiters were not pushy, the drinks were cheap, the girls bonita and flaca, and RD2,000 is fair (IMNSHO) when you factor in the house cut, the quality of the girls, and the on-site cabana.

I bet it gets wild on the weekends, however.

Ilusion was my second preferred nightclub in Santiago. It is located on Juan Pablo Duarte past Sadhala and Rafael Vidala a few minutes before Casa Blanca night club. Once you pass Rafael Vidala, keep your eyes open for the large sign displaying "Ilusion" on your left hand side. A cab ride from the center of town should run you around 100 pesos. You can get an idea of where Ilusion is located by consulting my Santiago Map.

One of two security gates on both sides of a guard booth may need to be opened before you can enter. At the end of the parking lot is the entrance to the club. You will need to walk through a metal detector before entering. Entrance is free unless there is a special events. Every Thursday there is some kind of Fiesta night where all the ladies get dressed up, a live band performs, and the club gets very crowded. I was charged a cover of 350 pesos to enter, a little less than $10 US. Thursday nights would be great to bring a date, but I thought it was too loud and too busy to find a lady comfortably.

The main room is very large with lots of seating surrounding a dance floor. Be careful when walking around as part of the floor is raised and is difficult to notice with all the seating. Along the back wall from left to right are the restrooms, an exit to the restaurant, the DJ booth, then the bar.

The exit to the restaurant leads to a small room with an entrance to the DJ booth on the right and door straight ahead leading outside. A courtyard with a dining area is straight ahead. Short time rooms and what I believe are residence rooms for the ladies lead off to the left.

Prices are negotiable, I was quoted from 1500-2500 pesos short time, and 1800-3000 to return to my room. Ilusion had some of the more attractive ladies I encountered in Santiago, but the talent level seemed more unpredictable than Casa Blanca and the attitudes did not seem as friendly on average. If not for these two aspects, Ilusion would be the clear winner of the clubs I visited, but because of them it came in second.

In December when I visited, Tuesday night was "Santa" night with all of the ladies dressed in sexy, skimpy Santa outfits. They may have other theme nights that I'm unaware of.
