Santo Domingo, Nov 2003
Stayed at the Jaragua which is not chica friendly but I am used to a certain level of accomodations. I also try to keep my rest and entertainment options seperate, hell do you take every chic you hardly know home? See my point. Anyway the bar inside the hotel casino is basically an emporium for shall we say extra curriculum activity, just walk in and the action will come to you especially if you sit on the right side up the stairs behind the bar. You can easily spot the area there are nothing but women (prospects) seated there and believe me the prices are unbeatable, under $1000 pesos. also spent time in Lapsis (strip club across the street in the back) and the other two spots one of which I believe was called Taboo. Taboo also has some rooms in the back if you see something and just cant wait. For a hotel that is chica friendly in the area try Hotel Riasol reasonable prices which include breakfast and taxes. ex $60 single room

I was in SD 5 weeks ago:
Spa Michelle: My first stop first evening. Nice little bar area girls were 5-9. For some reason I picked a 8 with cloths on 5 with cloths off. Actually I think she picked me LOL. We all know how that goes when you just got off the plane. Stretch marks and sagging. Great service!
Lapsus: Way to dark and the girls I saw were rough! I left after 1 beer
Tabu (right next to Lapsus) Same as Lapsus. I saw 1 cutie but she was scooped up right as I got there.
Remington Palace: Lots of girls loved the atmosphere. But I just did not take a girl from there. Lots of lookers. You have to be concerned with runners.
Mona Lisa: Nice early choice. Opens at 12 I think. I went with Natasha. Great looking girl great service.
Casa Rosada: One not on your list. This was my favorite. Great people working there. Girls were VERY hot. Went with one here. Service was great.
Elegant Center: Also not on the list. Fun place. I did a 3 some here and the girls were just soooo much fun. I had a great time just drinking and hanging out here.

My current list is getting very large. I'm not going to be able to hit all these places at night, but I'll at least try to stop by and collect information for most.
Do you have an address or part of town for Casa Rosada?
Also, where did you stay?

Travelman -
What is a "runner"?? Never heard that term before.
Thanks,
Clodbuster

sorry no address for Rosado'a. But the cabbies new it.
Runners say they are staying the night and then come up with an excuse to leave early.
i stayed at the intercontinental. It is nice but too pricey for a return. I like to stay top shelf first trip

I'm looking for some hotel advice from DR experts please. It will be my first trip to DR (I have about 20 trips to S. America, most with hobby focus). Can anyone offer a hotel or two that meet the following:
1. Is chica friendly - without extra costs (assuming I pay the doulbe rate?).
2. If the scene layout allows, is close to hobby and nonpro destinations, yet in a nice or upscale (for SD) neighborhood.
3. Is nice enough to impress or not insult a nonpro, yet not US-like expensive (I'd love to pay DR type prices since I'm in the DR...).
4. Is safe, and has an inroom safe (or lockbox at desk would do if need be).
5. Of course has A/C.
Among non-important item for me are if they speak English or only Spanish, have a breakfast, have lines for calling the US, or have US TV channels.
Thanks!

I'd check out the Riazor at Av. Independencia No. 457. It is close to most of the massage parlors and then just a short taxi ride away from the several of the casas. I started a thread about it in the hotels section.
Duque de Wellington is also on Ave Independencia. It is cheaper and lot more basic though.
You could also move up to something like the Napolitano, but that is on the beach and a lot more expensive. I still think your best bet is probably the Riazor. I didn't stay there but took a look at the rooms. There were nice and so was the hotel. $50 a night for the standard room.

For this long weekend trip, I am going to try to do the south coast with an amigo.com girl (taxi or bus - or car?) and hitting a resort where we can snorkel/dive/surf (Balyhide? Dominicus?)... or as a backup if I punt her then I'll likely just stay in SD and do the hobby.
ANY DR EXPERTS WILLING TO TRADE SOME hombremails TO ANSWER SOME OF MY QUESTIONS?
Like - where is the best scuba or snorkel... which hotels in which resort towns/beachs might be good... and are there any hobby options in a resort area with good scuba/snorkel/beach... any good beachs if I'm only staying in SD for hobby...
THANKS!

FLHobbyer--
I'm going probably first week in August, and am interested in the same answers.
A friend operated a dive operation in Haiti 25 years ago, she said, "The diving at Punta Cana was quite varied, but not deep. don't know how it may have suffered after all the hotels that went in. On the south coast by Casa del Campo and La Romana there were some good diving spots, but with strong currents. The nw coast near Haiti was some of the best I was told, but I didn't see it."
When are you going?
If you get PM'd with some info, can you please pass it along to me?--Thanks

There is a discussion about it at

I posted this in the Central America chat area, but given the nature of this message, I'm posting it here as well.
Anyone considering traveling to the DR should be aware that a major crackdown occured last week. The activity was focused in Santo Domingo and resulted in many massage parlor closings, casas as well, I believe. Many of them are the ones listed on this site. Mostly prostitutes and staff were arrested, but I read some clients were also arrested. Their Supreme Court has since ruled that prostitution is legal (or at least tolerated), but that might not stop the present administration from continuing their efforts to stamp out prostitution there.
The north coast such as Sosua is probably okay at this time, but given that this just occured last week and statements made about expanding the crackdown, I personally would not feel comfortable with P4P there at this time. In fact, I was suppposed to travel to Santiago this week on JetBlue but instead cancelled my ticket.
It's too bad JetBlue does not fly to Colombia, I'd like to use the credit to travel to my new favored destination.

Any updates on the Santo Domingo scene/crackdown, etc.?
By Coldbeer on Thursday, June 09, 2005 - 11:14 am: Edit
I am in Santo Domingo right now. If there was a crackdown, nobody is talking about it.
Action in the casinos is as it always has been. Plenty of girls at 1,500 to 1,700 pesos for the night. Not as good looking as Remington though.
Club Remington is alive and well. Still 2,000 pesos per girl for an hour and half to two hours before midnight. After midnight, she is on her own.
Don't know about the casas and MPs ... will try to find out.
By Coldbeer on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 10:37 am: Edit
Yep - the MPs have been closed down .. at least some of them.
The rest of the venues are the same - lots of girls - all sizes, makes and models - prices the same as well at 1,500 to 3,000 pesos for the evening ("evening" means different things to different people, of course)
More private brothels seem to be popping up.

I just got back from a quick weekend trip to SDQ for the first time.
I like staying at Hilton properties and did so for approx. $95/nite with a free up-grade to the Exec Floor at the SDQ Hilton.
Many places were shut down by the gov't, especially the afternoon places.
But Remington's Palace which is just behind the Hilton is still open, and continues to offer the best deal of picking up the chica after midnight for 2000P, and her staying until the latest 9 AM in the morning.
I met some other gringo/mongers who recommended staying in Boca Chica instead. It's cheaper and easier to pick up local girl's out to make a little dough, according to them.
Next year, I'm gonna find out for myself.

Hey 'fish. RT here.
I am guessing that you stayed at the new Hilton on the Malecon. What was their guest policy, if you would be so kind?
Thanks
By Sf4dfish on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 - 06:13 pm: Edit
RT, I'm a Hilton Diamond member who get's treated extra special. But I still booked my room for two using the internet, and wasn't charged an over-nite guest fee (cedulas required at night).
But I did inquire about bringing back two chicas, and was informed there would be an extra fee, how much I didn't ask or partake.
Next year I want to visit Boca Chica and the Hilton Resort. But, I heard it's not guest friendly. Unless she checks in when you do?
RT, when do you plan to "cum" back to SDQ? Let's plan a rendevouz sometime next year? sf4dfish, quienhablaEspanol

My boss took some people and they stayed at the Hilton. One of the guys was Diamond and they charged him for guests, I heard. But that guy was a real asshole, so that might have come into play.
You've got a PM.
By Coldbeer on Sunday, January 08, 2006 - 09:30 am: Edit
Hey guys ... any idea what the Guest Charge is at the Hilton? I usually stay at the Jaragua which is NOT guest friendly at any price.
I would not mind paying a few pesos more for the guest rather than the taxi to/from a Cabana and the cost at the Cabana ... I always feel a bit safer in my own room.
The Hilton looks nice ... how is the Casino?
Coldbeer
By Sf4dfish on Sunday, January 08, 2006 - 03:59 pm: Edit
At the SDQ Hilton, I booked a room for two people and I'm a HHonors Diamond level member, so I didn't get charged when a senorita came up. Cedula/ID required.
You can walk to Remington's, which is right behind the hotel, thru the Mall garage.
But I was told they would charge me if I brought up a twosome for a fiesta, I didn't.
The casino is o.k., smaller and very few gamblers, when compared to the Jaragua. Stick to the Jaragua for the money games.
By Gooch, RTGooch on Sunday, March 19, 2006 - 03:48 pm: Edit
RT here. I can confirm the above posts. There is no chica fee, and the process is painless. A second girl runs $10.
The casino is OK. Nothing special, but OK.
A full hotel report and mini-trip report to come next week when I get back home.

Gentlemen - can the veterans / locals recommend a really good masseuse or massage place in Santo Domingo? Female of course but no sex necessary (if offered great but otherwise I'll get that elsewhere). I know the top hotels will offer it in their health clubs but at huge mark up and I would prefer a recommendation.
Thanks for your help

Nope, closed up. I made some updates to the club threads a couple of months ago when I was there, the info on CH is pretty up-to-date on the SD club scene.

Yes, but here's a new one:
After agreeing to get ripped off by one of the taxi drivers tonight when I landed at the airport here in Santo Domingo, he then had the balls to ask me if it was OK for him to let a friend tag along into town with us.
When I said "no," he was shocked. I acted like I didn't understand and told the guy that if he wanted to pay half, I would be happy to split the cab with him.
You should have seen the guy run away. I really don't like this place.

RT here. In the Flash Dancers thread, we were discussing the relative beauty of the Dominican women, using the Wow Percentage©® (WP) as a baseline.
So today, I did a not very scientific test. On the way to work this morning on Av. Independencia, and at lunch time on the Conde, I counted and cataloged all women of an acceptable age (under 30 and looking old enough to be legal).
I clocked 68 women. Only 18 earned a second look, and just one earned a Wow! from me. That's a WP©® of under 2%. Of the 18, there were a dozen or so that I would call good looking girls. I define good-looking as, if she was your girlfriend, you wouldn't mind coming home at night. But not in the Wow! category.
Granted, this was not a scientific test, because:

RT here.
So there I was in the Jaragua, getting my ass kicked at blackjack. The hookers were prettier than usual, but I couldn't get the ones I liked to pay any attention to me (I think that they've seen me so much that they realize I'm not a tourist).
I started to leave. Right before I got to the door, a pretty girl waved at me and said, "hey, you're RT." I admitted that I was, but didn't recognize her. It turned out that it was Wendy, a girl I had seen back in March 2006. Her hair was a different color, and her body looked nicer. She forgave me, and came back to the apartment with me.
We had a delightful time, and she let me get off a few photos before we called a cab for her.

RT here.
Oftentimes, I simply dislike this place. The rest of the time, it fills me with anger, contempt and disgust. Today is the latter.
I get to the airport (coming home for a week!) and I am surprised to see that the line at Spirit is virtually non-existent. Every ticket person is busy, but I am the first on line. I put my bags don and wait patiently. I'm thrilled; there's no line, I'm two hours early, I will even have time to get lunch.
So I'm waiting and a security idiot sees me. He comes running over , puts his hand two inches from my chest, and tells me that I have to wait. The fact that I was waiting apparently escaped him. Two clerks then asked for the next person, and he took his hand down and waved me over.
Maybe I was over-reacting, and there are stupid, self-important jerks everywhere. Possible.
The airport is pretty busy (just not at Spirit). After check in, I go upstairs to the food court, fight my way through the crowds, and order a sushi combo (120 pesos). I hand the girl a 500 peso note, and she tells me that she has no change.
The airport is crowded, the restaurant has 20 people sitting there eating, it's a business in a restaurant in the nation's capital, and they don't have 380 pesos (about $11) in change? I tell her that I have nothing smaller, and she cancels my order and goes back to sitting there, staring into space like a total moron.
Amongst the dozen issues that run through my mind, the one that keeps coming back is: what the fuck is wrong with these people? She truly didn't care that a customer was walking away because of the restaurant's lack of change.
If these were isolated incidents, I might have ignored them. But I live here, and I see this shit (and stupider) every day.
Grrrr.
By Catocony on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 01:12 pm: Edit
I really do have to say that, now that it's been a bit over six months since my first and probably last trip to the DR, that I've never met a dumber nationality than Dominicans. In every business way, shape and form they are fucking morons. I honestly don't know how you put up with it, with all the years you've been working out of there. I know it's tough to compare the islands with the rest of Latin America but they make just about every other Latin country seem like experts in customer service and business proficiency and efficiency.

Well, I tried to warn you.
My boss came up with a theory and a money-making opportunity recently.
1. Lead in the paint (that's the theory).
2. We should have hired two camera crews to follow us around. It would have been a great reality-show. Hell, getting the electric turned on in our apartment could have been an hour-long special all on its own. That's the money-making opportunity that we missed out on.

When I left back in April we got to the airport pretty fast - much faster than from the airport to the city - and I got my boarding pass and got through security in just a few minutes. I seem to remember that that was about the only place that didn't take my water away, which was nice. I thought there were some restaurants by the gates but I could only find the one place, which pretty much served your choice of chicken or rice or black beans or chicken with rice and beans. I had over an hour to blow so I went ahead and ate and it sucked. So, maybe it worked out for the best for you.

By Catocony on Monday, October 29, 2007 - 07:38 pm: Edit
There's GFE in the Dominican? Doesn't seem to be. I think the only thing the Dominicans have going for them is that Haiti has the other half of the island and the Haitians are so FUBAR they make the Dominicans look good.

RT, I am amazed at how badly you describe the service and attitude in DR. Up here (Canada), all I ever see are dozens of travel ads on DR, how great it is, people, food etc., and it would seem that's all they have going for them. I've been meaning to visit, but now I am not so sure.
By Catocony on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 - 04:43 pm: Edit
Fur, that's called advertising. South Florida advertises nothing but sun and fun but it's nothing but cloudy and overcast from mid-May until October.
As far as the DR goes I'm sure people going to the all-inclusives like it but I found the place simply sucks as a mongering spot.

Good tout in Santo Domingo?
My friend is looking for a good tout in sd. Would any one have a name and cell number of someone reliable?
By Catocony on Friday, December 23, 2011 - 09:09 pm: Edit
I would trust absolutely no Dominican with anything. I really don't think you need a tout for the SD scene, it's not that complicated.
By Vladimir on Saturday, December 24, 2011 - 02:15 am: Edit
I think your friend is better off on his own, but if he really needs a tout, here is a taxi driver I found that should be able to get him where he needs.
Gustavo Batista
809-581-0002
Cell 829-458-7363
I don't really have much experience with him other than a ride, but he didn't try to bullshit me and seemed like a good guy.
I have another guy that's probably better, but I misplaced his number. I'll post again if I find it.
One note about dealing with taxi drivers, always ask for the price of the ride up front. If they dodge your question at all (let's go, I'll take you there, etc...), walk away. There are plenty of other taxi drivers that won't give the bullshit that one will.
Oh...and there's Fabio too. I'm not sure where I put his number but he hangs out in front of the Copa Disco at night. He knows a lot of P4P information and is a taxi driver too. Fabio kind of looks like a Puerto Rican with an odd-shaped afro.

By Vladimir on Friday, December 30, 2011 - 03:00 am: Edit
I just read about a guy that had problems with Fabio. I'd rather not mention the nature of it, but I definitely will not get into a car with him in the future.
By JIMMYDR on Friday, December 30, 2011 - 08:18 am: Edit
I will be back there next month for a week. I will only get in a taxi if I need to get around, never some Dominican's car.
By Vladimir on Monday, January 02, 2012 - 11:46 pm: Edit
I found the number of the other guy. His name is Manuel, 809-603-2019. I found him near the La Parada Night Club. He didn't give me any BS and didn't bug me like so many of the other cab drivers did. He offered to take me to a new place if I wanted to go, but didn't keep pestering me about it when I said I didn't want to go.
I'll still prefer to just find nearby taxi drivers myself rather than call Manuel, but if I needed one, that's who I'd call.
By JIMMYDR on Tuesday, January 03, 2012 - 06:51 am: Edit
I usually just grab any taxi in the street to get around.
