Hotel Monalissa is located at Danae #35 between Avenida Independencia and Santiago in the Gazcue district. It's on the east side of the street just a little south of Santiago. It should be easy to find with a sign featuring a depiction of Mona Lisa with the words "Hostal Monalissa" across her chest and the phone number at the bottom. The stairs by the sign lead up to the hotel portion.
Monalissa is a great option for the budget concious. Rooms are only 800 pesos ($13 US at the current exchange rate) plus 100 pesos if you want to use the in-room safe.
I would recommend checking the room out personally before reserving it. My television didn't work and I didn't receive a remote for the air-conditioning unit. I am not even sure if it was offered in the price or was functional.
Also, the bed only comes with sheets...no bedspread. Still at less than $15 US a night, it's not a bad deal.
The location here is great, centrally located for many places of interest. The closest alternative for ladies is Spa Michelle, only minutes walking distance away. Cisne and Elegant Center are a few minutes further in the opposite direction.
If you stay here, keep the address handy including the major cross streets so that you have no difficulty getting back via taxi.
