Mercure is located on El Conde, a major pedestrian walkway in the Zona Colonial a touristy section of Santo Domingo full of shops and restaurants. El Conde is much like Avenida Central in San Jose, Costa Rica. The location is excellent if you want to be near the many typical tourist attractions.
I did not stay at the Mercure, but I understand that it is guest-friendly, though discretion is recommended since the hotel caters to many "regular" guests.
Rates during my February 2004 visited appeared to start at $89 US. I found some nice places in the Gazcue district (much closer P4P night clubs and massage parlors) so I decided to stay in that part of town for about half the price.
However, if you need one of the nicer hotels, the Mercure and El Napolitano are two of the better ones that are recognized as guest-friendly.
Any more info on this place? Still guest friendly?
Hotel Mercure is still guest friendly. I stayed there in April 06. Make sure that you reserve for double occupancy. The rate was approx £ 40.00 per night
Hey Friends,
This is my first post to ClubHombre, so bear with me
I stayed here at the Mercure June of this year for 6 nights, I must say the location is perfect, for getting into things, if you know what I mean. Everything is within walking distance, however I would not suggest walking to far off the beaten path at night, be sure you know exactly where you are going and stay on the main streets, your best bet is to take a taxi to all of your destinations, any of the taxi drivers will be more than happy to stay and wait for you, or return at a given time; that is pretty much how I got around my entire stay, oh, by the way, if you walk out of the main entrance onto the El Conde and make a left, the Hard Rock Cafe is about a 3 minute walk, was unable to get there because of other pressing matters
but everytime I passed the place was rocking, I even read that Men At Work, had performed there earlier in the year. Ok now for the Mercure, just a heads up, if you get a standard room, they are very tight and small, not much room to move around in, it basically is "just" a room with a bed in it, the rooms are very clean and well kept, the shower is actually very large, plenty of room there
the food is great, and the service top notch, the breakfast in the morning is fantastic. Would I stay again? yes, for sure, however, I will be checking out another place my next time down in October. I have posted some pics to give you a better idea of what the Mercure has to offer, enjoy! EyesRight fellas!
