Hostal Riazor
Av. Independencia No. 457
Phone: 809-685-5566

I woke up and decided to check out the Hotel Riazor this morning. The Riazor is located on the north side of Independencia just a short walk west from the Duque de Wellington. I had walked past it several times and it seemed a little nicer and more upscale than the Duque. I took a brisk walk over there this morning and inquired about a room.
The rooms there were much nicer than the Duque. They had a refrigerator and mini bar and they also had a small safe. The bathroom was also much nicer. They had the key like most of the hotels in Thailand do, where you have to put it on the wall for it to activate the electricity and air conditioner for the room.
After being satisfied with the room viewing, I went back downstairs and asked about prices. It was $50 a night for the standard room with one bed, two beds was $60, and the deluxe room which I did not see was $70 a night. The hotel was guest friendly and did not charge an additional fee to bring a lady back for the evening. Breakfast was also included. Just for you though, not the lady.

RT here. I'm in town, so I thought that I would see about an update.
I wandered in last night, and asked what the room rates were. In true Dominican fashion, the guy said, "we don't have any rooms available," and didn't want to tell me the prices. Since I was on a research mission, I kept the disgust out of my voice and said that it was for a friend on another night. The guy finally agreed to let me know how much the rooms cost. The sheet he gave me reads as follows (translated for your ease of reading):
**********************
Room with 1 queen bed
1 Person - US$58
2 People - US$65
Room with 2 full beds
2 People - US$70
Additional person - US$10
Room with balcony (no mention of bed size)
1 Person - US$60
2 People - US$70
VIP Room
1 Person - US$75
2 People - US$85
Children under 12 years old - US$5
Late check-out - US$25
These prices include Continental
Breakfast and all taxes.
Check Out - 1:00
**********************
There was also a sign at the registration desk that said that you were allowed one guest per room, for what that's worth.
Not only was the hotel sold out, but there were expensive cars in the parking lot, so I am not sure how much that they would feel the need to negotiate on pricing.
Also, there were two PCs in the lobby, so I am guessing that room access is not available, but I forgot to ask.

I stayed here recently for two nights. The best information I could find for the hotel was at:
http://www.hotel-dominican-republic.net/apart-hotel-48-riazor-santo-domingo.html
but that wasn't very good. They have a form for contacting the hotel, but I had read somewhere that the online response wasn't very good and recommended calling. I bought a $5 phone card at a 7-11 near my house to make the call. The reservation was easy to make for me, but might be more difficult for someone that doesn't speak any spanish. If you have problems, just call at another time because some of the desk staff speak English. They only asked my name, they didn't ask for credit card info, passport info, or anything else.
My rate was $120 USD or 4500 DOP for two nights. I gave them 5k DOP, they held onto the change as a deposit.
Wireless worked ok in my room, but it was faster at the Hotel Mystik. Both have open networks.
The Riazor room was nicer and cleaner, but the safe was smaller than I liked.
I had no problem bringing a lady to the room. They hold onto her ID while she's there.
A nice benefit of staying here is the 24hr restaurant next door if you get hungry. It's also a short walk to Lapsus and the Hotel Jaragua if you want to visit the casino or use an ATM.
My personal preference was my stay at Hotel Mystik. The room looked a lot cheaper, but the internet was faster, the safe was big enough to hold my laptop, and it's right next door to The Girls House, Satin Dolls, and Sky High, all three of which ranked more highly in terms of overall quality of P4P places, and I visited a lot this trip.
If you prefer to meet other hobbyists, you might be better off here at Riazor. It seems to be the preferred place for DR fans, although most of them will be in Sosua.
