The Hilton is the newest hotel on the Malecon in Santo Domingo.

This 21-story baby has all that you would expect from a new business-quality hotel: meeting space, a business center, high speed internet, an executive level, etc.

The staff all speaks fluent English, down to the bellhops. As an added bonus, the hotel is chica friendly. There's no charge for the first girl; I have heard reports of charges for more than one guest at a time. They take the girls' IDs at the reception desk and return it when they leave. I took girls upstairs three times during my six nights there and no charges appeared on my bill.

The hotel is part of a larger complex called the Malecon Center. One day, this may be a large, thriving mall, but right now, there's only a bank, a barber shop, a Tony Roma's, and a couple of clothing stores.

Another good thing is that it is walking distance to Remington Palace -- maybe 100 feet from the back of the parking lot.

There's a casino. It's not that big and not that friendly, but there's a casino.

Rates at the Hilton run from about $99 to $150 per night, plus the 19% tax and 10% service charge. It's great if you want a full-service hotel and work is paying, but it might be a budget-breaker for some.
