There are many girls working the street at night, especially in Havana Vieja and Vedado. If you are lucky enough to be renting a car, the sky is the limit. Many of them hang out at stop signs and near popular restaurants. Also some cuties on Obispo street in Havana Vieja. Many of these girls have pimps and will charge you more as a result. One day, I paid for the day to have a classic car taxi drive me around and went to interview girls standing near stop signs at night. Very difficult to score as there are tons of police. Pretty fun way to meet girls. There are also tons of hitchhikers willing to go with you for little money and some of them are hot....never tried it but I'm sure it could work.

A little clarification here. Not every chica standing at a streetcorner is hooking. With the exception of tourist areas like Obispo St., during daylight hours 98% are hitchhiking and many of them will happily accept a ride. This is how you really meet the non-pro's, but Spanish and some charm is necessary.

Which goes to prove that in Cuba a smile and a pocket full of Ben Franklins will make up for Pimsleur Spanish in a real hurry.

But can be very hit or miss. Be prepared to put in time and effort if you want to find a winner.Like anywhere in Havana, heavy police presence and crackdown has many chicas running scared.

Here's my report on a one-week stay in Havana at a hotel near the Parque Central. Because of my trip companions, my options were severely limited: I could only absent myself for about 1.5 hours during the day. Nonetheless, anytime I wanted to connect with an attractive young woman there was never a problem. All I had to do was to hang around that end of the Parque Central nearest the beginning of the Paseo del Prado and the Hotel Parque Central and try to make eye contact. If no one was in the Parque itself, I'd stroll over towards the Hotel Inglaterra and try to connect with girls walking in front of it. Or stroll towards the beginning of Obispo. Most of these girls are amateurs just trying to supplement their incomes (I hooked up with students and nurses, mainly). Going rate = $20-25 for FS (what you get besides that is hit or miss, and again whether you get more than one cup of coffee depends on the blend--overall about a 50% GFE ratio). Many girls didn't even know where to go for a room, so we had to ask around. Much better if you speak Spanish. I thought most of the girls were really more interested in an extended affair: dinner, dancing, and then bed (but I explained that I was "apurado" and couldn't hang with her for that long--so, as one of them said, a jump in the sack was a good way to "become friends" quickly). Rooms will cost you from $5 go $20 for an hour. Try asking around for someone who "alquila por horas". Cubans are all very cool about this, and no one seems much embarrassed by it--one girl I was with just dropped in on an old high-school friend in the area and asked to rent the main bedroom for an hour. Bring condoms--the girl might not have any on her.
