I believe mongering will return to Cuba once more when Castro is no longer El Presidente.
I have not been to Cuba and probably wont go if I have to monger like I am a wanted criminal sneaking around town wondering if I will get caught and locked up.
Based upon the looks of Cuban women I have met in Florida, I can honestly say that if mongering returns to Cuba then I will be there on the scene. I think this mongering scene will probably eclipse that of either Asia or Brazil.
I will not miss Castro.

From what I've heard, and like you I've never been there, Cubans are more afraid of the Beard's brother than him. Since Castro turned some of his powers over to lil bro as a result of this latest surgery, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I was there in Jan. of 2004. The tourists did not get arrested, but the chicas did. It was still easy enough to connect, but the chicas didn't want to be seen with you. That was when you could still spend US dollars there. I have heard that it has gotten worse.
The chicas were hot, but not any hotter than Colombianas. If Fidel dies today, it will take many years to stop the decay even if they embrace capitalism tomorrow. The attitudes of non-customer-friendly Cubans will take even longer to change.
I won't be there.

A Castro will be in charge of Cuba for a few more years. El apodo, is correct after Fidel dies his brother Raul will take over.
I would not hold my breath waiting for any real changes in Cuban politics, or the view from Washington on Cuba. There will be an embargo on Cuba until the Cuban government changes the way it runs that country or oil is discovered in large enough quanities for the U.S. to change it's view of Cuba.

But how long can Raul live? He is already 75. Both Fidel and Raul could kick the bucket anyday. What I want to know is who is in line to take over who has some 20-years life left in him...what is that guy's attitude like?

I read that Raul is only the figure head. The power was divided up among 3 or 4 military types. I don't think there is 1 person inline to replace Raul.

They're probably grooming Elian Gonzales for the job.

I've been told, as of July 06, that security cameras were erected in all of the major areas to crack down on jineteras. The police are also stopping all girls walking with a tourist. This is in Havana, but the other cities are no better.

I live in Los Angeles and go to Havana at least every 6 weeks, sometimes more often. Just returned from Havana 2 weeks ago and heading back next week. It does seem that things have slowed down in Havana, but there is still plenty of action. I read on several sites that the girls are stopped by the police for being with tourist. This is not exactly true. There is no law against Cuban girls being with non-cuban men.
I travel around town with girls all the time and never have a problem. The reason most girls are stopped is that they dress like a Jinetera and or they are known jinetera's. Also some of us foreigners look like mongers. Like I always tell my girls if I had a fire at my house, I would go to the person dressed like a fireman. If they dress like a jinetera they will be treated like one.
Just my thoughts.

Tell us about Cuba. I am STARVING for insights. I visited Havana in Feb 98 and had fun but was CLUELESS. I do wish I had not missed the fabled early 90's

Where do I start? Some may remember the wild parties I use to post on this site. I had to ask admin to take them down after my long term GF here in the states found the site.
But now I am single, so I am free to at least write about Cuba. Unfortunately I am looking at Cuba as a place for me to retire in a few years, so I don't monger much in Cuba. Cuba is not like Thailand or PI where the girls have to be pushed away. The Cuban girls are a little more discreet, you almost have to play the pick up game as if you where trying to meet a girl in the states. Any man can easily bed several women in a day, depending on your tastes. Again getting laid is easy, finding a place to do it can be a little more difficult. Prices are going up for girls, but prices are not set in stone. Non-pro's are still available for dinner and some gifts. Pro's as in any profession want more.
I still enjoy Cuba and think it is still a viable party destination.

Hey guys. I am looking into Cuba this winter for a possible solo trip of 10-12 days. Just a couple questions if you do not mind...
I live near NYC, best to fly through Bahamas or DR?
Housing, this is my greatest concern. How to find a girl friendly place to stay?
Is renting a car an absolute?
Best to stay in Havana, another city, or travel about?
Any hangouts in Cuba for fellow likeminded travellers.. or specialty active message boards?
Any bold groundguide servies out there?
thanks

I can not believe did not occur to me until just now..
A guy have have been playing chess with online for a few years works at a hotel in Santiago, http://www.sanjuan.co.cu/ I believe he might be the manager as seems to have enough freetime to play chess online 40 plus hours a week from the hotel. I plan to start working on him for info in regard to policies on girls. Santiago a good base of operations? Hotel rate looks to be around $40 a night US for a standard room with air, safe, breakfast, and a good looking pool.

All emails too and from Cuba can be monitored by the Cuban government. I seriously doubt that an authentic Cuban citizen will openly give you advice about girls via email or telephone.
This board has active Cuban information www.worldsexarchives.com
Good luck, and don't forget to post an update when you get back.

Just stay away from Guantanamo Bay. I hear that a lot of people are disappearing there.
