Angelo Ristorante
Calle Atarazana #21
Zona Colonial
809-686-3586
If you insist on going to Santo Domingo to monger, you can do much, much worse than having dinner at Angelo's.
The restaurant is located in the Colonial Zone, in a strip of five or six restaurants that all face what is reputed to be Christopher Columbus' house.
Everything we had was fabulous. Among the appetizers, we started with a pizza and a pasta fagioli. The pizza was delicious, and the pasta f. was not a soup, but more like a baked casserole. Whatever it was, it was stupendous. Some of our main dishes were lasagna, ravioli bolognese, and a red snapper. Everything got rave reviews.
Like the rest of the country, this place was not cheap. Including the additional tip, the total for five of us came to 8,437 pesos (around $260). Two guys split a bottle of wine that added about $70 to the total, so if you back that out, it came to $190 for the five of us.
Was the dinner worth $40 per person? Probably, especially when you consider that EVERYTHING is expensive in the D.R., and the food was outstanding.
