I don't know if this is true, but I heard the Cuban government shut down the Malecon -- port area in Havana known to have a lot of action. All the information is old, but that would have been your primary spot.
If you can speak Spanish and renting a car, try heading towards the beach area. There are lots of girls that will want to hitch ride (and maybe more).

I'd be interested in hearing about Cuba as not much has been posted in recent years.

First question: Where you go?
Havanna, Santiago,Cienfuegos or Varadero etc.
When you have booked an all-inclusive arrangement I cant help.
When you are individual traveller I strongly recommend to rent a car (approx US$ 60/day plus gas). With a car you are the king and just drive around in Havanna and girls will stop you.when ask them where they want to go the usual reply is "Where are you going" or just "I go with you"
I use to go out to the beach of Santa Maria (25km) - I never came back alone.But you need a private casa, at the hotels it is rather difficult or impossible to get the girls in.
I have a few reliable adresses (Havanna, Cienfuegos,Holguin etc), if you want them give me a private mail, but you have to reply quick as I am leaving tomorrow (24.05) in the evening (European Time) to Thailand.
I was in Cuba 4x within the last year, tons of girls, all shades from pure white to deep black,
all perfect BBBJ's, most anal too,can only congratulate to your decision,but you have to follow certain rules.Good Luck!

FYI, renting a car is a great way to pick up chicks out of the blue...but note the Canadian foreign affairs warning:


"Traffic accidents are a frequent cause of arrest and detention of Canadians in Cuba. Accidents resulting in death or injury are treated as crimes, and the onus is on the driver to prove innocence. Regardless of the nature of the accident, it can take five months to a year for a case to go to trial. In most cases, the driver will not be allowed to leave Cuba until the trial has taken place. In some cases, he will be imprisoned during this delay."

What you said is exactly why I decided not to rent a car when I was in Cuba last January/February. Their system of law, I take it descended from Spanish law, has a particular name that I can't recall. I first read of it years ago when reading about Mexico. Apparently it's the same there. Apparently you're guilty until you prove your innocence. Even though I'm a good driver - in fact a professional driver in Vancouver, Canada - driving around scoping out chicas would be very distracting. Why take the chance? Better to just hire a driver - with his/her own vehicle. The $60/day one would pay for a rental would go a long way for that.

From my one and only trip to Cuba I'd say, if you still have the option, head elsewhere. As Jodler said there really are "tons of girls, all shades from pure white to deep black," Not only that but many many many are absolute knockouts - that can be had for as little as $20 short time and/or long time. That's the positive aspect to Cuba. Trouble is the negatives, at least for me, far out way the positives.

I should really write a report about my experiences but so far, obviously, I have not bothered. Checking your post above I see you're heading there within days so, tell you what, I'll PM you my phone number. Up to you whether you want to call and chat. You can have a good or even great time in Cuba so long as you go with appropriate expectations and/or can adjust quickly to the pain-in-the-ass realities you'll come up against there.

You definitely need to do a report. Before the current crackdown, there were a number of great Cuba reports from DonGringo, Sandman, GCL and others. It sounds like your recent experiences in Cuba will re-enforce their decision to abandon Cuba as a potential hobbying location. I, for one, want to see Cuba before the Beard takes his final dive. So let us know what you saw!

I read some of the reports by the guys you mention. If I'd known they'd written Cuba off as a hobbying destination I would not have gone even once.

You are right I should write a report. I've never submitted one here, neither for Buenos Aires nor Costa Rica, as there is so much info about those two places already. (Though I did submit trip reports on the CRT Forums for three of my four CR trips of 05). Fresh info regarding Cuba is sorely lacking nowadays so even my limited experience there would be welcome I'm sure. Really, I intended to write one when I got back from there last February but I wanted to do it right - not rush - and, well, life got in the way.

Soon though, I will finally put down some words about it - rushed or not.

I made over 9 trips to Cuba from Aug 02 to Aug 05 and it was all downhill from 04. The amount of police attention increased significantly and the girls were terrified of the police - hey it's a police state after all.

As I understand, the girls get 3 warnings. When do they get a warning? Anytime they're caught with a tourist, they're assumed to be hookers.

After the 3rd warning, they get sent to jail for 4 years of hard labor...for the crime of "anti-social" activities.

I'd hate to have that on my conscience. Hard time in Cuba is no joke at all.

Bottom line: Cuba is great as a tourist destination. The rum, history, architecture and salsa are worth a visit. But the poverty, the extreme deprivation and the treatment of girls by the state make it a very poor hobbying destination.

Actually, I believe in the city of Havana if a young Cuban national is caught within 5 meters of a tourist, they can be written a citation. Of course, if you are a lone male tourist and a single girl is within distance she will instantly be presumed as a hooker. There lots of young kids peddling cigars or wanting to pimp their cousin. It seems there is police all over the place to enforce this.

I recall seeing an absolutely beautiful girl sitting by herself on the beach near Havana. I made eye contact with her for more than a moment so it appeared she was a working girl. As I started walking towards her, down comes a military police dressed in full battle fatigues yelling at me. He was speaking too fast to understand him, but basically he was telling me not to talk with this girl (and it wasn't his girlfriend). I casually walked away, and I saw the girl show her ID to him and then they chatted for awhile.

This is what makes Cuba (or at least Havana) so difficult because there is not really any established placed for meeting girls and they do really enforce the tourist type areas.

There are some really cute Cuban girls, but it takes too much work, too much time and Spanish speaking is a necessity. Girls were practically free...or were back then. For most guys, who only have a week or so to have fun out of the country Cuba is not really an option. Whereas, you take a place like Rio. Though, it is expensive now you can still be in downtown termas in 30 minutes after going through Customs. Cell phones and text messages, you already have a list of girls lined up after that. Beaches, termas, Help, agencies, internet, american type bars, etc, etc, the options are widespread and readily available.
