Transtur came up with these tourist buses that leave at regular intervals (from 9 am to 5.30 pm) from Parque Central in the heart of old Havana.
T1 does the tourist route within Havana and stops at Hotel Presidente and Habana Libre. Cost:$5 for the whole day - get on/off as many times as you want. The route is marginal in its interest but saves you on the taxi fare if you have to get to Parque Central from Vedado.
T3 picks up passengers for the beaches at the same bus stop. Cost: $3. You want to get off at Hotel Atlantico for some of the best beaches in the Western hemisphere...walk to the right of the hotel and you can access the beach after the car park. Beach umbrellas (sombrillas) and chairs (camas) are available for rent at the beach for $2 each.
Seriously, this is one of the best ideas for a long time - it used to cost me approx $15 for a 1 way trip to the beaches.
Now, if they can increase T1's coverage and introduce another one for the airport, THEN I'd be impressed!

that bus has been running for some time. There is a cheaper bus that cost around 80 cents but it's not as convenient or comfortable.
