Made my first foray to El Pelicano at 10:30 Sunday night. Following its recent makeover designed to place the club along the gringo trail, it has become a nice club but TINY. Strip club format with a round center stage. The stage is surrounded by cocktail tables and virtually all non-stage seating is at these tables on a padded bench up against the wall. I expected private intimate plush booths since I heard this club may have common ownership and aspires to the style of Revolucion sleaze bars Unicornio and Isis. This is not the case - only one real "booth" and it is constructed for a party of 8 - not exactly intimate. So this club will simply not be capable of delivering the kind of in-club hardcore entertainments that Unicornio and Isis are justly infamous for - but you do get a watered down version of that (see below). There was one dark couch-lined semi-private room (no door) in back of the bar and out of the view of the crowd. Looks like this is intended to be a place to perhaps provide private lap dances, but none were offered and the room was never used while I was there.
Of the 7 or so chicas in the house, perhaps 5 were on the high side of average - they'd pass for 2nd tier AB plus a couple of hotties. Hustle factor is not anything like Revolucion clubs - the girls will approach you but not very aggressively. Seems like working with the meseros is the preferred method of introduction. If you choose to sit quietly you will not be hounded incessantly as you would be on Revolucion.
The highlight of my visit was a chica named Mariel. She was in the 2nd tier AB category and radiated wiith lust and charisma. She took the stage in a billowy polka-dot dress - Eventually removing every stitch and danced stark naked (with much enthusiasm). I have never seen a pussy show of this dimension in TJ (and it is against the law). Of course the chicas customarily lower their bottoms and give you a peek of panocha, but I've never seen one go starkers this overtly, and the taboo of it really turned me on. That this chica was basking in being an exhibitionist was clear (btw, all the other dancers stuck to the typical TJ topless floorshow style). After her performance I took a seat at a table and noticed that she had sat herself down on top of the giant booth about 10 feet away - the dress was back on but no panties - she sat there with her legs spread wide open, panocha on display like a peacock displaying it's tail feathers.
She asked a waiter to inquire about my interest - I said bring her over. So she comes and sits next to me, basically naked - no panties - a Donald Duck puppet containing her fichas in a zipped compartment was affixed to her labial lips by the beak, and boobs only slightly contained under the loose fitting dress. Ended up buying her a couple of drinks (they try to rip you off and bring a 2 ficha $12 drink - I accepted that the first time but insisted that the 2nd round be a 1 ficha $6 drink). Anyhow, enjoyed her company for more than a half hour. Our party at the table was Unicornio-lite - a mutual grope fest with her inviting me to molest her from top to bottom and she did the same to me. When a song came on that she liked, she'd get up and give me a U.S. style lap dance grinding that bare panocha against my crotch. Quite a nice experience actually. Turns out Mariel is only in TJ visiting a friend and decided to work off her expenses - has only been in town 3 days and is heading back home tomorrow (she works in a club in Juarez). Neither she nor another chica I spent some time with over a drink ever solicited me to go to a hotel - so some of the chicas at this club are happy to work for fichas. Mariel never left me - even when I rejected a proposition for drink number 3 - I actually had to leave when I had more molestation coming to me in order to move on to the remainder of my night's agenda.
So all in all, nothing outstanding about this place - your time here will be as pleasant as whatever chica you are fortunate or unfortunate enough to hook up with. It's another pleasant diversion from the same old same old in the zona.

hey Erip i was at El Pelicano Saturday night after having a session with a favorita at AB. Have you seen a stripper there with a tattoo letters spelling out FANNI on the side of her leg? She's HOT, she let me touch her anywhere with a kiss on the cheek afterwards.

This place has potential. I was there either Thursday or Friday Night, it is all a blur at this point. I did see one cutie there who I had seen at Tropical during the day in the previous months. A gorgeous girls but likes the drugs. I used to see her associate with Boyd quite a bit at Tropical. By the way does anyone know what happened to Boyd? I have not seen him in a couple of months. I used to see him every trip down.

I spent some time with MellowYellow, one of the more interesting denizens of la zona. He always seems to be happy and mellow, hence the name. He wanted to show me the magic of El Pelicano and invited me along. But first we had to stop at the little grocery store next door to load up on munchies (he always seems to be hungry).
As we entered I could see a small stage surrounded by built-in booths, mirrors on the walls, and bright Christmas tree lights hanging from the ceiling. There was a dancer on the floor going through the motions and intently watching herself in the mirror. MellowYellow ignored her and led me to a seat that was the farthest on the left up on a raised alcove. After settling in with beers, he pointed to the mirrors on the other side of the alcove. In the mirrors on the other side you could see yourself reflected in the mirrors behind you where you could see yourself reflected in the mirrors on the other side where you could see yourself reflected in the mirrors behind you...
He seemed to find the phenomenon amusing. After awhile I left.

TJ Wanderer, no I didn't see "FANNI" on Sunday night. I'll keep an eye out for her next trip.

I saw the tattoo last night. It looks more like ANNI with a symbol above it, not sure though. She was the best looking one there, good body, great hair, interesting chins though. Seemed pretty bored and not interested in talking to anyone.

While I still drop in from time to time, this bar has gotten into a rut. They need some newer nasty chicks, I've run thru all the ones they already have.
By Erip on Saturday, November 18, 2000 - 09:34 pm: Edit |
Agree completely Diego...all momentum stalled here. Build it, and they will cum...but only if you stock it with desirable chicas. So many operations in the zona have ugraded the facilities and/or are making a serious effort to become a stop along the gringo trail - El Pelicano, La Tropa, Las Chevales, El Pollo - but AB/CC maintain a stranglehold on quantity and quality of talent.
By Celtics on Saturday, November 18, 2000 - 10:07 pm: Edit |
Erip, so true. Momentum counts for A LOT, when you're hot you're hot. Makes you wonder why they got rid of the HK bar. It was a fave of mine and I'm sure for many other gringos as well. It's as if they spent all that money then took a step back. If ya want to be on the stop for the gringo trail, ya better also play more gringo music.
By Diego on Tuesday, November 21, 2000 - 06:44 pm: Edit |
Celtics;
Sorry to say, but good riddance to HK. It had a strange atmosphere, and I thought the chicks were total bitches - I only met one in there that had a decent personality. Besides, they should have known better than to dump money down that rathole of an alley.
They've opened up that Police station with a view of the alley, and right at that totally dangerous intersection(constitution/callejon coahuila) - but it came way too late.
I agree with you about the gringo music. I want to hear some every once in awhile - and NOT just when a stripper comes on!

Pelicano Bar has been shut down for the whole last week!
Rumor has it that the girls were providing more than just lap dances in the "private areas" upstairs. Evidently, a health inspector caught someone getting a BJ up there.
Man - they could have caught me with nothing on but my socks and "raincoat".
But I'm wondering if they weren't shut down for something else - about a week ago there was a HUGE drug raid/bust on Calle Coahuila across from AB, and it could have involved Pelicano. I guy told me he saw a cop carrying a huge bag of white powder. I saw at least 20 cop cars, and 3 Humvees full of Mexican Army troops. The event caused a small traffic jam in ZN, as they had the street shut down.

If they own Bambi's, then beware of TVs coming to Zona Norte. A cabi told me the TVs pay the owners $500 a month to work in Bambis and San Sousi. He claims they have aids and the owners pay off the city to stay open. This is his view.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I actually miss the old Molono Rojo. When the "new" Pelicano opened I had hopes of the same nasty atmosphere (Alexia, where are you?). Instead it seemed like it tried to become an American style strip club, but without much of a line-up.
Maybe the new owners will get the formula right.
By Shadow on Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 10:59 pm: Edit |
I told my bud that we should try to lure Angela into a silent partnership and buy Pelicano.
The place is actually pretty nice. I think a nice place playing more mello, romantic music with beer on tap would fill a necessary niche. If you could lure some of the more mature "All Pros" like Angela, Alva, Isella and (dare I say) Tanya, you'd really have something!
By Erip on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - 03:44 pm: Edit |
It doesn't need renovation, it needs chicas. The last owner renovated it and got off to a great start, but he couldn't maintain a staff. Plus they endured busts for inhouse sexual acts being performed on the upstairs level...not enough juice to do it their way I suppose.
The owner of Bambi's and Sans Souci also operates many of the legit strip clubs on Revolucion including Peanuts & Beer, Caribean and Rio Ritas...perhaps other clubs as well. His ownership of Pelicano does not necessarily mean that it will become infested with transwhatevers. On the positive side, since this owner(s) has got such an empire going, it may well be that Pelicano will have a good supply of chica's on hand. I don't think any hard presumptions count for anything in this case...we'll just have to wait and see.
By El_Cochino on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 08:31 am: Edit |
ERIP,
I thought that the owner of El Pelicano was the same guy that owned Molino Rojo, Isis, and Unicornio?
My amiga wanted to take me her out on a Sunday night to look for a new club to work at. She interviewed with the manager of Bambi and was offered a job next Monday - at the time she was working at Unicornio.
We also went to Mexico Lindo, but she was intimidated not by the beauty of the girls, but by their clothes. After that she wanted to see Adelitas and Chicago Club, but was turned off by the smoke, noise, and crowds.
Later we went to Peanuts and Beer and about six nearby clubs. She said that the people that own P & B own about 14 clubs in and around Tijuana - a lot of the clubs on Revolution with the same format.
By Erip on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 03:17 pm: Edit |
El Cochino...you are correct that the owner(s) behind Unicornio and Isis have been operating El Pelicano. I was referring to Sinnombre's post above which reports a rumor that the person(s) behind the other Revo empire of grunge clubs (ranging from Bambi to P&B) is taking over El Pelicano. My point really was that considering the differences between the commonly owned Bambi and P&B, that these people operate clubs in various formats, so we can't really know what to expect when El Pelicano reopens if the rumor turns out to be true.
By cf/ja on Thursday, August 30, 2001 - 10:35 am: Edit |
El Pelicano re-opened. And I can't see a single difference.
By El_Cochino on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 09:25 am: Edit |
CF/JA,
There was one difference Friday night, but you had to ask for it. The beers are still $2 but you got 2 for one. My amiga and I visited it - they still have some of the old waiters from Unicornio.
My amiga use to work at Unicornio so she felt very comfortable at the El Pelicano.

Diego,
and you know what happened next in slap shot after that line! Which I guess could also happen with a 2 for 1 drink special. I remember, as a kid, going to the San Diego Mariners hockey games when they had .25 beer night,,,,yes that's 4 beers for a buck,,,,just a few fights in the stands....and a few beers thrown on the ice.

I went in there on thursday night just to see it. It is a pit. Some girl by the name of Claudia sat next to me and she wanted $100 to go to a hotel. She used to work at all the joints on Rev ave, P&B, Carribean, etc. I will pass on this place in the future.

hey robertsol
i think i met claudia on rev ave before when she was walking to a disco club
she has a great little body and pretty face and kind of stuck up right ? looks no older than 17
i asked her if she was going to pulgas and she gave me a line - oh no i stay out of that place -
no claudia its more like you have no id and they will not let you in without one !!
i wanted to get her on some freebee action but her attitude was just terrible
she said something like - come see me tommorow at work el pelicano
only $ 100.00 gee wonder who is paying that ?
you should have said great - 100 pesos no problem

True, I should have offered $100 pesos. Having just stopped by on my way from CC, I really wasn't interested in anything, but just gathering info. She said the owner is not the same as the one who owns all the bars on Rev, but who knows. CC was awesome, as was Las Chevalas. Can't wait to get back and will not waste my time on this place (Pelicano).

Rb1;
Too bad I couldn't drink back then! At least not legally.
I used to hang out with Harry Howell's son. He was on my football team in high school. He gave me some of his Dad's really funky New York Golden Blades purple and gold socks. Don't know what the hell I did with them, though. I didn't realize who the hell Harry Howell really was until much later - I just thought he was an old Player-Coach... didn't realize that he played for YEARS for the New York Rangers, and he was the last guy to get Defenseman of the Year(in 1965 I think), before Bobby Orr sewed it up for the next decade.
I think Paul Newman's character in Slap Shot might have been based a bit on Harry Howell.
I remember going to see a game where one of the goons they based the Hanson brothers on was playing for the Minnesota Fighting Saints. Jack Carlson. The dude was REALLY weird looking - much weirder than in the movie. I couldn't believe how many fights he got in. Then the fucker even scored the game-winning goal!
Hey, remember Connie Madigan?

Hall of Famer Harry Howell:

And what about Bob Gassoff(used to play against San Diego with the Denver Spurs in 1973)?

Shit - that reminds me... I hope StrikingViking is OK.
You know... all of these fuckers played in San Diego - and I bet most of these fuckers got layed in TJ at one point or another. Hockey was more fun in the 70's... most of them didn't wear helmets back then!!

$1 Beers, actually $2 for 2. Dropped by last night. Two OK girls and two fat ugly ones and then in walks LuLu. She is steadily dropping down the scale, at this rate she will be outside the HN by yearend.
Had a $1 lap dance from a hard body with a hair lip and a french kiss from a nice little girl. I think I will go back.

They've changed the name of the place to Kaos. I ran into Jorge who used to distribute flyers for La Tropa. He's doing the same thing for Kaos. He claims they're going change the sign out front but in typical Tijuas fashion I expect they'll cover the old sign with a sheet!
I like Jorge but he's not shy about hitting you up for spare change so be forewarned.
By Diego on Monday, June 10, 2002 - 12:48 am: Edit |
Kaos? Perhaps Zigfreid went into retirement, and bought the place?
By Tl8 on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 - 07:07 am: Edit |
El Pelicano is now Kaos. Kaos in spanish sounds more like "Cows" then the english pronounciation of Kaos. They have a paper sign out front so that is official enough. New girls dancing now but they still need a few more and better looking ones. New owner. Upstairs bar is large U shape bar/dance floor. The upstairs bar is ready to open as soon as they get enough people to open both upstairs and downstairs bars on Fri/Sat or as soon as they bus in some more chicas from Sinaloa. They keep saying next week, next week. Maybe next week will arrive one of these weeks.
Most of the new crop of girls do private sessions upstairs in the private rooms. $40 for the room includes beer or about $20 for private room without the beers. Girls can be negotiated for $40 to $50. I suggest you wait until they get some better looking girls or negotiate lower.

It is now mid September and the selection of ladies is still underpar. They just cannot seem to get a good lineup. I will keep on going back and will report when they are able to hire some ladies. There is not a legitimate reason to hang in this club. The proximity of this bar to TB and LC makes it a hard sell.
