Lining the dance floor at the legendary Bar West Fargo are framed photographs of legendary Hollywood Cowboys-- Tom Mix, John Wayne, Glenn Ford, Gene Autry, Clint Eastwood, Kris Kristofferson-- now wait, did I see that right?...Kris Kristofferson?...I spent a good part of my Saturday evening at West Fargo trying to determine exactly what Hollywood Western could have possibly featured Kris Kristofferson ("Heaven's Gate?"..."The 3:10 to Yuma?"...Quien Sabe)...
In any event, other Tijuana Ficha Bars nominally try-- specifically, Hacienda and La Carreta come to mind-- but only West Fargo comes even remotely close to affecting an authentic Western ambience...Wood railings and the occasional bailarina dressed like an Alaskan Gold Rush showgirl probably contribute more to this affectation than anything else...It's not like there is sawdust on the floor or anything...
A clamato and and orange juice for mi esposa and I came to 59 pesos, which was a rather strange total, I thought...I mean, are non-cerveza drinks really 29.50 pesos a piece?...Once again, quien sabe...Our mesera pushed a vegetable plate in front of us and I immediately went into cheeseplate mode complete with the waving of my arms and simulated fire in my eyes but I was assured that the plate was free...
Interestingly, I ordered another clamato for mi esposa about an hour later and the charge was 36 pesos...
Tho not readily apparent, this club does employ young ficheras, whom the veteran Tijuana Monger will eventually begin to distinguish if, in fact, enough time is invested on his part...On this particular Saturday, I counted 12 young chavas-- chicas rather similar, in fact, to the girls one might find in Tropical or Chavelas-- about 4 of whom might give a Monger pause to think...Like all other Tijuana ficha chicas, they simply cannot resist the opportunity to line-dance with their amigas when the occasional Brooks and Dunn tune is played...
...But be forewarned that there is no attached hotel and thus any activity outside of the bar will be based on the Monger's ability to operate and negotiate...Once again, the investment of a certain amount of time will be paramount...
And speaking of music, be prepared for long sets of Rancheras, followed by Banda, followed by Rancheras, followed by Band-- well, you get the idea...
The night manager is a rather distinguished old fellow in a turtleneck and he passed by our table on more than one occasion to ensure that everything was going okay...What a pleasant change from the scowls that one typically receives from the legendary Carlos at Miami/HK...
For the Gringo-averse, rest assured that if you are in fact a Gringo and decide to venture into West Fargo, you WILL be the only Gringo in attendance...
So, to cut to the chase, is West Fargo worth the trip South on Revolucion?...I would have to say yes, if only because it really is an imperative for any self-respecting Tijuana Monger to pay proper respects to the only Tijuana Bar named after Tijuana's most famous Monger-- or is it the other way around?...Quien Sabe...

nice hotel" pacifico" next door. less than 40 bucks. althought i have been to this bar with my wife and a few friends on a few occasions, i didn't realize there were ficheras there.
once visited and there were only 3 locals in the bar, and they looked at us like "you have to be kidding". we went to another bar down the street--can't remember the name.

One of the reasons I spend so much time at Los Pinos is that I figure if I die in one of their jacuzzi’s, Sugar Pie can just roll me down the hill to the afore mentioned funeral home.
I guess you might call that "advanced arrangements".
About a month ago I told SugarPie she gets everything. Since my announcement, she has been trying to fuck me to death

Milkman,
WestFargo is just right around the curve on Aqua Caliente and just a few blocks from Centro.
Maybe you should learn your way around TJ.

Hey Old man
if I wanted any shit from you i would head over to the Scripps Elderly center !
Westfargo used to be my hangout years ago.
Me and Jarocho used to frequent this place before your 3rd pacemaker went in.
It is still considered part of Centro I am sure.
Its only a few blocks from Pulgies. I used to walk there all the time.
the regular drinks are more expensive here than other bars and they have all kinds of fichaeras here and a nice stage-show.
You will see all kinds of people here and even families too. It is not a whore bar like Adelitas.
The owner of this place has a picture of himself on the wall he used to buy me dwinks all the time.
I repaid him by having my friend spill his beer all over him. He is a nice man and even consoled me the week after 9/11.
This is a lot of info on this bar and a lot of bad info from Mr Westfargo on this place in the other West thread
Good Luck

Adelitas is a whore bar? You have got to be kidding.
"he used to buy me dwinks all the time" Wow, what a surprise to me and all your other amigos, that someone else paid for your drinks.
You are just full of new information.

Milkman:
I didn't see West Fargo listed anywhere else, and finally determined that since it is out on Agua Caliente, it is more properly placed in the La Mesa category...I agree that it is within walking distance of Revo...The best route, actually, is to take Juan Sarabia over to Pio Pico and then turn South and-- but thats another story, I imagine...
I also figured that any Bar accessed by the 5 y 10 colectivos could be-- theoretically, anyway-- accorded La Mesa status...I was not comfortable placing West Fargo in the Revo Bar category...
Btw, where is the other West Fargo thread?...

Technically, the area where West Fargo Bar is located is called Colonia Cacho (I think that's how it's spelled)

Colonia Cacho is still Centro. Westfargo is a couple blocks from Revolucion but a couple miles from La Mesa. Kind of on it's own.
Back to the original post, I believe Kristofferson was in "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid".
