What actually is a sex addict?
I will take a serious swing at this one, off the cuff.
Does it interfere with you otherwise leading a normal healthy life (work, social, school, paying bills, making the housing payment)?
If it does, then I think you have three options:
1. Rein yourself in and stay away for a month or three at a time. I tried that and it changed my
perspective considerably. I still enjoy going, but with a much better (realistic) perspective.
2. Talk to a professional therapist about your life in general. If you are losing your grip on this one aspect, then you may be starting to slide all over.
3. Throw caution to the wind and lose yourself in this fantasy world to your detriment.
The wonderful Panacea is this forum (I capitalized the P word on purpose). Talk about it. This is
free. This is entertaining. This is nicotine without smoking. We are all in the same figurative boat.
I think the secret is balance. Have fun, under time/$ controlled circumstances. Set goals and limits and stick to them (for me that is easy as I am educated as an accountant). I plan to stick to school for another quarter and save up for a trip further down the coast. Meet your obligations. I cut back to once a quarter for financial and
personal/ professional/educational reasons.
STILL think of the women you meet in real life as possible mates (I actually said that??). Seriously, if you can do that, I think you are OK. Sometimes I couldn't; now I can and do again. And some of them know what I have done and do. But give me 5 or 10 years from now and to hell with that. Of course, thinking and an actual relationship are further apart than I can throw a stone.
Of course if I lived in San Diego, I think my life would be completely out of control. I would be broke and I would have a silly grin on my face all the time.

Sex addiction is a lot like other addictions that make us feel good, or so we think. With sexual addiction, all we are trying to do is emulate the first time we experienced an orgasm whether alone or with help. It's that rush of excitement.
Quite simply it is the one thing we can do with ourselves that we can't fail at, feels good and doesn't have to cost a cent. The counter point is the addictive nature of sexual behavior is progressive, very progressive.
I can remember saying I would never do that... Well I have, and continue to say it, but it never stops. Guys, sex addiction has no boundaries and taking a break is good for both the psyche and pocket, but I always go back for stronger and better than before. Kinda like quitting cigarettes/alchohol/drugs and then going back and needing more. It's a compulsive behavior which becomes the only way to deal with whatever ails you.
It affects relationships, marriages, families, children, finances and the weird, skewed outlook on life itself. Taking women as objects soley for the pleasure of the moment.
Think about it the next time you leave TJ or wherever with your pockets empty and the worry about catching something. Before you went down, nothing mattered. Right? Had all the bases covered, but why do you feel that way?
Sex addiction like all the addictions has only three results, death, prison or suicide. Really scary stuff! Keep riding the raft down the rapids and eventually you'll understand what I mean.
You take care now!
P.S. There are 12 step Sexaholics Anonymous programs in your areas if you feel you are out of control and your life is totally unmanageable.

So what would you suggest? Getting married, being a good boy, and praying you get laid once in a while? Or even better yet, purging oneself of evil sexual desires and thoughts all together?
Addictions are harmful only when they begin to interfer with your physical and mental wellbeing and those around you. At least those around you that are relevent.
Air and water are addicting but only an idiot holds his breath under water until he passes out.
Better too much sexual interest than too little.

I actually took philosophy courses as an undergraduate, including existentialism (upper division philo majors only, except me). I wrote my paper on Nietzsche.
I challenge you to post a reference to where he wrote that. Not that he didn't. There is some difficulty in translating german to english (two years of german, too). Whatever he meant was probably something very different than your interpretation of "Go get your rocks off!" My reason is if there was one thing that guy was NOT ABOUT, it was getting laid. The common understanding is that he never had sex in his life. What kind of philosophy is that? He died insane.

Prof. EC,
I heard somewhere the dude had syphilis that he probably got from some ho. And didn't he hate the Christians because they were/are so into denial of physical desires and all a that? I always liked that S/M thang about bringin' ya whip when you go to see a woman...

Hey all you bright stars... Denial is not a
river in Egypt! I'm not one to preach, but the
wall is approaching and when it hits, it can
be really devastating. Be careful with your money,
your safety and your peace of mind.

Ritmo,
I have not heard the syphyllis bit, but doubt it. I think F.N. is most remembered as an academic whose ideas were hijacked into what became NAZI-ism in Germany. Ironic, because nothing he ever wrote was about a militarist totalitarian state. The justifications for that came later for the same reasons that the Mormons needed to write their own scriptures that allowed their points of view. And they don't understand why christians do not consider mormons to be christians. They better make up another book of their own scripture to convince them of that.
Artful cons can turn water into wine, Swaggart into messiah, etc.
I actually thought Jean Paul Satre made the most sense; but would not by a philo book he had written. Hemmingway had a more accurate view IMO. Hemmingway was not above writing about ho's, btw.

Hemmingway was a damn good marksman.
'Hemmingway-After The Storm.'
Tanakato, my attache, is a big Hemmingway fan. Tanakato had a great time, this winter, at 'the Mas compound' in Key West. There, he finished the manuscript of his first short novel. I believe his working title is, 'Tiger Boy Lies.' Now, he feels to important to proof read anything I write.
Sexual addiction? It seems a little extreme-to be labeling our TJ experience an addiction. Hell, I pound Vikaden, like M&M's -and I'm not an addict.

"Pound Vikaden like M&M's-and I'm not an addict"
And I only use this little ol' crack pipe three times a day, but I can quit any time....
A wise man once said that "knowing is half the battle." We KNOW that sex is our drug, it even hits some of the same pleasure receptors in the brain Heroin does. Just like you shouldn't let alcohol or anything else control your life, don't let sex control your life. Who's the boss here, anyway....my peepee or me? (Some nights it's my peepee...lol)
The point: "Don't fuck and drive"...or "Friends don't let friends drive and fuck"..."just say no"...nah. lol
