You need to have Real Player installed on your computer to hear these files. A "free" version can be downloaded from: http://www.real.com/
The free version is located near the bottom of the page on the right hand side. They make the free version a little hard to find versus the paid ones (surprise, surprise).
Let me echo everyone else's kudos to you Daytimer! Your audio files have have put a smile on my face and have made my friends chuckle when I call them with the songs playing in the background.

Daytimer,
These audio reports are awsome. I really enjoy reliving my experiences through your reports and particularly the background music. What a great idea, thanks again to you and TJhombre.

Thanks Aardvark and Billfromreading. I appreciate your compliments. I enjoy doing the audio and I find it worthwhile when I learn a few guys are enjoying them.

Recommendation: Ni Una Lagrima Mas by Noelia
As a Latina lover I can not help but love this woman. When listening to her I think about all of the beautiful Latinas I have had the pleasure of being with in TJ.

Daytimer, did you ever mention how you are uploading your audio files? I can't find anything on this board where it allows you to include an "attachment". Thanks.
By Daytimer on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 11:59 am: Edit
TF...You can upload by typing in this:
\ attach{whatever you want here}
username and password, then hit the Preview/post
Then hit Post this Message. A browser message will come up and you then find the file you want and double click on it. Then click on the Upload button and you are done.
Be patient with the upload. It can take several minutes.
btw, the brackets around the {whatever you want here}, are the upper case brackets to the right of the "P" button on your keyboard.
Good luck. Don't hesitate to ask me if you have a problem.

The romance tour file was too large to complete the upload in the 5 minute limit. I will have to split the file and send in two parts tomorrow.

I gotta agree with you Daytimer... Noelia has a gorgeous voice.
I might just look for her CD's next time I'm in the music store.
Thanks again for enabling me to identify by title/artist some of the songs I've heard at AB.
By Daytimer on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 - 11:15 am: Edit
Redongdo gets ALL of the credit for identifying the songs of Adelita's. Without his help I was only able to find by chance one title.
Farsider.....I am also thinking about buying Noelia's CD's. I am looking for some in TJ tommorow. I also have enjoyed identifying some of the songs and adding them to my MP3 collection. I would love it if Redongdo or others would identify some more. The music of La Zona Norte is addicting. I can not seem to get enough.

Daytimer,
If you know of any places in TJ that sell CDs at a good price let me know. I have checked a few places in TJ and the prices are often higher than in the US. The places I like in the US are the small Mexican shops that sell CDs and sometimes other things as well (like jewelry). I often can get CDs for $10.50-13.50 and no tax.

Anyone know the name of the latest song by Chakira that's getting airplay (it's in Spanish, not the stuff she's trying out here in the US)
Thanks

Tejano music is something I did not care for when I first started going to the La Zona Norte bars a few years ago. But now I have learned to appreciate it. It is a popular style of music at many of the bars in TJ.
This is an example of a Tejano style song that is popular now.

Small interjection... Her name is Shakira. She is Colombian and HOT. She does a pepsi comercial and is now blond which is a disappointment. A couple popular songs that girls dance to are "Ojos Asi" and "Ciega, Sordamuda".
By Daytimer on Sunday, December 02, 2001 - 01:03 am: Edit
cf....Thanks for your correction. I have to laugh at myself on this one. I entered the wrong spelling on a MP3 file search and came up with MP3 files that were misspelled. So that perpetuated my misspelling. Apparently there are others who have her name wrong. I never even gave it a thought I was typing her name wrong after seeing numerous files with the same misspelling.
Thanks for pointing out the problem and suggesting other songs.

Shakira just came out with a new CD. It is mostly english(her first) and some spanish songs. I hear she is going to be in concert at the Pond. I saw her there 1 1/2 years ago and it was one of the best shows I've seen. She is awesome.

Daytimer or anyone, how about some audio files for the spanish-impared. Like how do I say, "you are very pretty", "turn around", "would you like to go to hotel", "slow down", "maybe later" I can look these phrases up and remember them - but I butcher them when I try to say it. What are the 100 most common phrases a monger says?
By Daytimer on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 06:54 pm: Edit
bluelight.....I thought of the same thing. I think, as you do, the audio portion of this site would be excellent for Spanish lessons.
I know a few things in Spanish, but am not even close to be qualified to teach very much.
Maybe someday I will put together some sentences that are common for us mongers and then let others commment and correct me if I am wrong.
I think learning some Spanish enhances the experience in TJ. It is fun to be able to speak a little.
dt
last time down, Kandew and I both were saying the same thing. It's alot more fun to sit with a babe on your lap if you can say 5-10 phrases between licks. I can study the language until I can read and write the whole thing, it still doesn't help me say 1 word. http://www.techsmith.com/ a program that can do audio capture very easy.

hi
great report daytimer!!
I go to all these whole in the wall bars.
I feel 197 percent safe in these places.
When i hook up with you we will go on some adventures !!
take care

Daytimer;
It sounds like you are describing Bar Zaconopan(sp)on the East side of Ratero Hill?...
More than once I've heard Led Zeppelin blasting out of their basement bar...Were you and Maria dancing to "Stairway to Heaven?"...Or maybe "Custard Pie?"...:-)
If it was Zaconopan(sp), did you happen to see the legendary photo of the Long Bar which is purported to be on the wall down there?...
YoungBrig
By Daytimer on Saturday, December 29, 2001 - 06:20 pm: Edit
Milkman....I would not have felt safe without Maria assuring me it was OK. The "worm hole bar" is a place that I have seen problems twice. Once a beer bottle flew out the doorway and just missed my head. The other time, just as I passed, a guy was pushed out the doorway. I turned around to see what was happening and then the guy was pushed backward and his head bounced off the pavement like a coconut. I would not be surprised if it killed him. I just kept walking fast to get the hell out of there.
Youngbrig...I did not see the photo of the Long Bar on the wall. I wish I had. I went to the LB many times when I was young. It was quite a place. We would get large pitchers of beer for $1.25. Those were the good days. Damm, we would sure get drunk! Maybe that is why tap beer is no longer sold in TJ.

hi daytimer
question for you.
I am ready to buy a cd burner but need to know if i can record from cdrs i have bought at swap meets.
not reuse the cd but take music from the cdr and re-record it onto a new cdr
one person said no , another said yes ?
i got tons of spanish music and want to put them all on Milkys greatest hits cd's
let me know
thanks
milkman
By cf/ja on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 09:26 am: Edit
Milky, I'll sneak an answer in here. If you can copy to the hard disk you can burn it to CD. If someone else already bootlegged it to a CDR then obviously any copy protection scheme was already defeated. Are you wanting to burn to Audio CD's or MP3 CD's?
By Milkman on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 10:42 am: Edit
hi
thanks cf
someone told me once a song is burned to a cdr , that song cannot be copied again to another cdr.
i am talking Audio cd's
take care
milk
By Daytimer on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 01:33 pm: Edit
Milky....I go along with CF. It is no problem copying from a cdr to your hard drive, then back to a new cdr. Maybe the person who told you it could not be done had a software problem.
I use the free version of jukebox to copy and burn cd's. It works very very well.
I have a small collection of Latin music. I put together a cd of some of the popular songs heard at AB. I have just started giving those cd's out to fellow mongers as a free no obligation gift. For those guys who do not download or buy the Latin music they seem to really enjoy the cd. I love to listen to it in the car when I want to get in the TJ mood(almost all the time now).
So Milky, good luck with your cd burning. It is the only way to go.

The only problem with your wonderful CD Daytimer is that it makes me horny.
Must be some kind of pavlovian response.
Thanks again!!
By Daytimer on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 03:21 pm: Edit
Dirtyoldman...I am glad you like the cd. I have never believed in the pavlovian response theory as much as I do now after making the cd and listening to it in the car. My car always seems to want to head south when I play that cd.
I am putting together a Noelia cd that will blow you away. I hope to see you again so I can give it to you.

BTW, for those of you looking to record sound, they have pretty cheap (I think cerca $60) pen recorders with gobs of RAM (record like 2 hrs or something) - and they look just like a writing pen - you'd never know the difference. Now, if you could just explain why you're talking into your pen, you'd have it made...

By Daytimer on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 04:25 pm: Edit
MrBill...I have not seen the pen recorders. I think talking into a pen is better than talking into a shoe, as an actor did in a famous old TV program.
dt
By MrBill on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 08:15 pm: Edit
DT - I think I saw the pen recorder in a RadioShack flyer - but not 100% sure - but I'm sure a quick search on the web would find them.
I've been observed walking around talking to myself many times, so I don't think I'd arouse any suspicion. (I just don't want the state hospital to find-out - I hate that place...)
BTW, what TV show are you talking about? Was it "Get Smart"?
PS - just wait until my MrBill audio report comes out (in the voice of, you guessed it, MrBill). If I can get the voice down, it ought to be a hoot...

How do I copy from a cassette tape to a hard drive and then digitize. I know how to burn to a CD
By Curious on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 11:14 am: Edit
Attach the cassette output to the mike input on your sound card, running an application to capture that sound to disk. Unless you have a really good sound card this is probably NOT a stereo input (but some cards do offer stereo in).
Once stored on disk it is, technically anyway, in digital format.
By Daytimer on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 07:01 pm: Edit
694me....One way I have recorded sound is using Real Jukebox. It is best to hook your cassette player to "line-in". Open Real Jukebox and click on tools. You will find the recording fuction. You will pick "line-in" and go from there. Once it is recorded using Jukebox you can burn a CD directly from there, or using other software you can make a CD after finding the file.
Goodluck,
dt

Mr Bill....Yes, the show was Get Smart. I liked that show. It was pretty dumb though.
The thing to be careful of when buying a digital voice recorder is to be sure the quality of the recording is going to be OK. If the recording length is over a couple of hours, then chances are it is in a "low quality" mode. The recording sound can be very bad, especially when trying to put it on the Net. Any recorder you buy should have a so called "High Quality" mode, or HQ for short. Many recorders have at least two speeds.
In order for digital audio to sound OK on the Net, you will need at least 8 kbps (kilobytes per second). 16 kbps is much preferred. It is acceptable sound quality and you can load about 6 minutes at that rate on this site when using Real Audio files.
My digital voice recorder gets a little over 30 minutes of recordings in the HQ mode using a 5 meg smart card.
You don't have to know the recording ratings of the recorder when buying. Just listen to it. If it sounds really bad, then look a something else. If it sounds acceptable to your hear, then it will be OK for the Net.
