On Sanchez Taboada. Sits off the street-you enter through an arch and a cobblestone drive-every cabbie overshoots the entrance without fail.
Great ambiance. The interior is configured like a courtyard with a fountain in the center.
Service is pleasant and attentive without being intrusive, and the menu is upscale regional Mexican fare.
A full course meal with appetizers, drinks, entree and dessert will run about $40 for two.
Appetizers range from 30 to 60 pesos, and entrees from 80 to 130 pesos. The Huitlacoche chile relleno is awsome, as well as the chile relleno de res con pulque sauce and the pato con jamaica sauce.
I've yet to try anything there that wasn't great.
Overall a nice romantic restaurant for impressing a chica with great food.
They even do some of the trendier retro-ethnic food like agave grubs as Especials de Dias. One of these trips I'm gonna drink enough ceveza to try them...

Their shrimp enchiladas are also excellent, and happen to be one of the cheapest entrees on the menu. My only real knock on this place is that some of their wine is way overpriced for the quality.

Are they open for lunch, breakfast ???

I know they are open for lunch on Sunday. I don't know about other days or breakfast. Espadana, right up the street, has fantastic breakfasts, but are mediocre the rest of the time, IMO.

Thanks Hippie !

Odd... my last post never made it - guess I'll try again.
I don't know if La Diferencia is open for lunch either, but Hippie is right - Españada is famous for their breakfast.
Although I've never tried the wine at La Dif, they do have the best cerveza I've had in Mexico - La Costa Morena - an excellent Mexican micro-brew!.

It would probably be a good idea if either the milkster or Hippie started a thread for Españada. I would, but you two seem to be much more informed about the place.

Potatohead and I hit this place all the time. It is one of my two favorite resturants in TJ. Dinner is very romantic, there is a troubadour who sings and plays guitar, his name is Daniel, he speaks English. The service is second to none, they wait on you hand and foot. They serve lunch as well, I usually have a meat dish, it's a steak covered with a hideous green sauce, but it's good. Sorry I don't know the name. They have love birds in small cages above the fountain in the middle of the resturant. I take chica's here for lunch or dinner just about every week. Dress well when you go. It's behind a tuxedo shop just a short walk from Espadana.

Here's the full address and phone number for La Differencia:
Blvd. Sánchez Taboada 10611-A
Phone:
34-33-46 or 34-70-78
Its on the west side of the street, about 100 ft past the intersection. I think the intersection was Rodriguez.
Sanchez Taboada runs parallel to the Tijuana River and is between Paseo de los Heroes and Agua Caliente. If you're staying at the Grand or PLG, it should be a very short cab ride.
The troubadour Señorpanocha mentioned is awsome - great voice. I always slip him a few bucks for a song or two.
Oh.. another point of interest. I've never thought to ask for it, but since they use pulque in one of their dishes, this might be one of the few places in TJ where you can experience this "Tequila Beer".

Oops.. forgot to add:
The menus are only in Spanish, and I've yet to meet a masero who spoke much English. Of course your chica will help you with this little problem, assuming she speaks better English than you do Spanish.
And its about 100 ft past the intersection if you are headed south.

I was looking at the online map and its difficult to figure out what street is what still.
Can someone please give detailed instructions on how to get to this place, lets say starting on Revolution? I know Revo turns into Agua Caliente at the fork in the road, but I'm lost from there.
Thanks much in advance!

Eclipse,
Detailed info, including directions can be found on the Hungry Hitchhikers site.

This site is in the links section, and I've found it to be a Great source of info on food in TJ.

This has got to be one of my favorite restuarants in TJ if not my fav. The only thing is the waiters and staff are getting to know me so when I roll in with different girls all the time they are giving my a look. One of the waiters actually said something "like you come here with a lot of beautiful girls". Luckily it was on my way to the restroom and my girl didn't catch it. The Filete La Diferencia is my personal favorite.
Very romantic if you want to impress your girl this is the place to do it.

1. Last time I was there, they offered me an English menu.
2. Their appetizer "Crepes Cuitlacoche" is very good.
3. I do NOT recommend their calimar relleno con cuitlacoche (cuitlacoche stuffed squid) - IMHO a bad flavor combination
4. The guitarist I encountered is "Carlos" - 40 pesos ($4.00) per song. I just gave him 500 pesos ($45) and turned him loose - what a voice !
Of course when I do this, the music costs me more than the food. As we donīt drink, the whole thing including cab fare cost me 100 bucks.
