With full credit to Tofutush.
I can't say enough great things about Taller Los Ponchos on Negrete between 3rd and 4th...reasonable prices, truly exceptional work for the price, when he says it will be, and he always cleans and shines everything so when you pick up the car you have one of those "wow" reactions. It's a father/son operation and both speak good English. Phone # is 685-46-41 (add 011-52-6 from US). Check it out!

Any suggestions for a good TJ auto detail/wax/buff/shine shoppe for a good price? A good clean/wash/wax/buff/detailing runs about $120.00 here in S.D. , you can get them for about $40-60.00 at the 'bato and cholo barrios' or neighborhoods.

The auto body shops operate like Revo strip clubs...they've got English speaking barkers out on the sidewalk and in the streets trying to attract business. You can expect that there will always be at least somebody around who speaks excellent English if you are in one of the shops in the centro district that rely primarily on norteamericano business. Like everything else in TJ, prices are negotiable.
I recently had work done at the "Cadillac Shop" - this is no dad & son shop - it's a gigantic operation on 3rd Street that you encounter immediately upon exiting the ramps from the border heading west on 3rd towards Revo. I had relatively minor work done, but they did a great job at aproximately 1/3 the price that I was quoted in L.A. Phone # from the U.S.: 011.52.664.638.4301. One of the English speakers who works there is George Mercado - so you can ask for him.
Beware, no credit cards accepted - so if you have a big job, load up on the cash.

Any current recommendations? I need to get for shocks installed for a 94 ford and some door keys replaced on a 94 camry. I figure I can bring the parts with me. Thanks.

Thanx ERIP!
I just got some good work done down at Cadillac Shop
They did good work very cheap. But it did take two days to do what they promised in one day. Ah Shit! What's a guy gonna do in TJ for an extra WHOLE DAY?!?!?
