Soft contact lenses are the best buy of all in TJ for me. I can buy a carton of 6 lenses for $25 at Devlins Optica and that costs about $100 in San Diego.

No, prescriptions are asked for at all.
Don't you just hate it when the American eye doctor says "Is this better or is this better?", and you really cannot tell the difference because they are both blurry?
Usually the result is a new prescription so that they can sell you a new set of glasses or contacts, even though you probably don't need it yet.
I made an educated guess and changed my prescription last year and haven't regretted it. I can see better and wear the same power in both eyes now.

Thanks for the info:
I got an eyetest/contacts a few years ago, but never went back for a re-test and new prescription as I figured it was BS.
When I was there, they tried to convince me I needed some reading glasses also, ( about $90 for some crappy looking ones)
I've been using some of the $2.99 ones for years.
I figure if I want contacts, the worst that can happen is I will not wear them if they are not correct. (I don't think there is much "magic" involved in getting eye ware/contacts).
Looks like too many places in the business, so its high profit. ( meaning we get screwed)
PasaThai,
While I'd agree with you about there being little 'magic' when it comes to glasses, contact lenses are a VERY different story.
With contacts, the shape of the lens and how it corresponds to it is the curve of your eyeball is EXTREAMLY IMPORTANT! Poorly fitted contacts can create more troubles for your eyes. In fact, they can be dangerous to your long-term vision. (A scratched cornea can ruin your whole day)
Just make sure that you get fit correctly.

Gosh, What I am really looking for is a place that has GLASSES (you know, spectacles) at good prices. Anybody ?
Awfully good question. I have been getting glasses in Thailand, so I have no clue where to buy in Tijuana.

There are many "Opticas" along Constitucion south of the zona and going west from Constitucion on Calle 4 and Calle 5. There was even a whorehouse MP along one of those sidestreets that fronted as an Optica (i.e. Ruth's Optica) - I think they've changed the name now. I don't wear glasses...yet, so I don't know if they're cheap. I would think they are a much better bargain than in the U.S. anyway. I have seen them do minor repairs for amigos gratis.
