The best restaurant in San Diego/TJ. Try it out, particularly the PULPOS MINIATURA ASADOS AL CARBÓN
see www.saverios.com

I have a hard time believing a TJ restaurant would outclass all the fine restaurants in SD. Plenty of excellent restaurants in La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe.

I was very impressed with this restaurant when I had dinner there (with Porker of all people!) a while back. Great service & food and the Tijuana Brewing Company beer was pretty good too. I had planned on visiting there again on my last visit to have a dinner bet repayed to me by Erip but couldn't seem to stay away from the Lucerna restaurants.

I eat here or La Diferencia almost every week, my two favorite TJ restaurants. As good as anything in the Gaslamp in terms of not only food, but service and ambiance as well.
For a while the waiters there thought I was crazy because I would show up with a different chica every week before going to the Parador, but I've settled down since then. I was never sure if they figured out most of them were puta's.
Try the Carpacio appetizer, it is paper thin beef served cold with capers, cheese and lemon. The girls love this. Potatohead's chica, my former chica's # 1 and # 2 both enjoyed this place so much. Very Romantic place before the seduction. Absoult in your Martini, crystal and white linen.

While this is a very nice place, the service is fantastic, the food is delicious and the ambiance is very classy it is not "The best restaurant in San Diego/TJ." You can't go wrong eating here or taking a date here but there are better places in San Diego and in TJ. Top O' the Cove in La Jolla for one. I've also heard Cien Años is very top notch as well. We'll have to wait for El Fuego to chime in on this one though.
Excellent choice, wonderful recomendation, it's a very very nice place, it's a tad short from being the best though.
As far as waiters knowing they were whores? Please. The whole restaurant knows. The waiters, the host staff, the bus boys, they go in the back and tell the cooks, the cooks tell the dish washers and every other customer that is Mexican knows.

I have been to Cien Anos, it's nowhere near any top restaurant in SD, nice atmosphere to bring a date but food is cantina quality.

What is the dress code at Saverios and these other better restaurants in TJ? There isn't one single restaurant remaining in all of Los Angeles where a man is required to wear a jacket. Do the better restaurants in TJ have a less casual attitude?
Also, what is the closest you can come to fine dining in TJ if you don't get started until 10:00 or so? Any restaurants in the class being discussed in this thread open very late?
By Aardvark on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 - 10:02 am: Edit
I can't speak for the operating hours of Severios but...remember...I was having dinner with Porker so their dress code is lenient. Sorry Porker...if you're reading this! I was wearing my standard TJ uniform: polo shirt, jeans, & non-sneakers. One of the pluses of the place is the roaming around of the Tijuana Brewery Chicas advertsing their product.

Dress in business casual if you are there in the evening. The service and food are awesome. It has spoiled me for the San Diego restaurants that are overpriced with average food and poor service. The seafood is fresh, not fresh frozen. Veal and lamp chops are from New Zealand. The vegetables are as good as Chinos. Yes, I think it is better that Mille Fleur, you may differ, but you will surely agree that it is better when value is considered. Try the Saverios salad. The waiter will tell you the best fish of the day. LA Cetto has a great Cabernet for about $14 per bottle. Remember, prime dinner time is about 9pm. Usually a good crowd with some very attractive women. You have to have to the charbroiled baby octopus, it is the best. I know of no place in San Diego that you can get baby octopus, yes octopus, but not baby octopus. Go there for sure, I think it is far superior to Cien Anos. Anyhow try it out.

I don't get it....Top O' the Cove is a very fancy restaurant. What is the point to "El Mesero's" post about the fat and poorly dressed whore?
Is he the chef there or something?
I must be missing his point or else it is an insider joke.
By Merican on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 - 12:56 am: Edit
OK, I swear I haven't been drinking or doing hallucinogenic drugs.....There was a post above from El Mesero that would have put my above post in context but it is gone now......
How did it get deleted? I'm asking only because my post ought to go the same way now!

I had lunch here yesterday with # 2, we walked in at 12:30, there was no one else there for about 15 minutes. We were the first customers for the day. Eventually four other parties showed up, it was very quiet except for the Italian Opera music. We each had a ribeye, it was decent. I was the only man without a tie on yesterday, but it isn't necessary.

Robertosol -
(Baby octopus? How about the sushi all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant chain Todai, with a location in Mission Valley right underneath the 8/805 interchange? It won't be charbroiled, though. Haha. Mmm. Yummy!)
(This is actually my favorite place to pig out on the way down to TJ. Selections may vary. Hot, cooked items and great little desserts too...)

Robertosol,
I can probably understand the comparison to Mille Fluer when you factor in portions & price, but vegies as good as Chino's? Although an arguement could be made again if you want to factor in price.

I had dinner here last Tuesday night with El Fuego and besides the stares I received after he (in Espanol) asked for a "romantic table", I had a fantastic second meal/experience there.
A start of a "muy frio" Bombay Sapphire martini and then 4 courses which included mushrooms, raviolis, a caprese salad, and ending with a rib-eye steak (that was slightly over-cooked but that has always been my experience with any cut of meat I've ordered in Mexico). Cigars and port in the bar capped off a great meal.
Oh yea, the draught of TJ Brewery beer in the fantastic pilsner glass went beautifully with the rib-eye!
Allot of couples were there with allot of eye-candy to watch. My amiga (non-working chica but "associated" with the business) told me that this is her favorite restaurant so I'm sure I'll be going again on my next visit and I'll have to practice that "romantic table" phrase that El Fuego used!

"su mesa mas romantica" or something like that. I swear that girl either thought we were gay or had no sense of humor.
Aardvark, I had a great time with you as always. Thanks for everything! BTW, I saw your girl sunday night at Chicago and she was the best.... I mean she said "HI" And she asked when you were coming back. She was under the impression that you were coming back in three weeks.
I also saw our favorita chica in pussycats and she asked wheb her "novio" was coming back.
I don't know if she meant you or ERIP.
By Aardvark on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 01:14 pm: Edit
"my girl at Chicago"? You'll have to narrow it down alittle more!
By Erip on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 01:30 pm: Edit
El Fuego: "I also saw our favorita chica in pussycats and she asked wheb her "novio" was coming back. I don't know if she meant you or ERIP."
She HAD to mean Aardvark EF...he made her a significantly more romantic offer than I did.

The girl from AB that you took to dinner, you know your wife!
By Aardvark on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 05:13 am: Edit
She's working at CC now? Fantastic, that means I can safely go into AB now for my mistrisses!
Oh, BTW, we got divorced (amiably) the next morning!

WHERE: Right behind La Espanada on Blvd. Sanchez Taboada.
RATING: Five Stars
FOOD: Excellent. You will be shocked how well prepared the food is here. The Presentation is excellent and the quality of preparation at an extremely high level. The salads here are out of this world. Dinner started out with selection of focaccia bread and crackers with garlic butter. Excellent selection of entrees. My favorite is their antipasto platter. I recommend following with a half-order of one of their many salads, followed by one of their pizzas. Their pizzas are baked in either a slate or wood fire oven (tough to tell) Best desserts in TJ. I highly recommend the guayaba tort with fresh banana ice cream.
ATMOSPHERE: A lot of the wealthy women of TJ love to come here with their girlfriends to celebrate a birthday or baby shower. Lots of incredible looking girls. Very large main dining area with several booths off to the side and a couple of private dining areas. Very nice bar to the right as you walk in. Reservations on the weekend are recommended.
SERVICE: Flawless.
PRICE: Pretty cheap. Average entree is 5-7 dollars and bottles of wine are very cheap. Place looks much more expensive than it really is.

Still my SECOND fave place to dine in TJ.
Nice place, classy, good food, but "pretty cheap"??
I usually figure $20 per person here.
OK, I guess that IS cheap, compared to my FAVORITE place to dine in TJ.
By cf/ja on Friday, January 11, 2002 - 10:51 am: Edit
I was here for dinner this week. Average entre price was $10 to $15. The bill was MN$600 for 3 adults and one child, no bar drinks. Very good food, somewhat noisy, elegant but not romantic. Kind of machista as there doesn't seem to be a single woman working there.

This place is great. I went here with one of my chicas and she loved it wanted to take her mom there when she came to town. Reasonablely priced and just great food....

I had dinner there on Monday nght with an amigo (ironically, all 4 times I've eaten there have been with amigos...no chicas). TJ Brewery lagers, fried calamari, lamb shank taquitos (probably one of the best things I've ever eaten!), caprese salad, spinach salad, and stuffed filets (a real disappointment after all of the rest of the food!) for $66 for the both of us.

Try the sashimi, it is awesome, better than any restaurant in toda del mundo, in my opinion.

I have only heard good reviews on this place. I will have to check it out next time Uncle takes me out
What Steak dishes do you recommend ?
By Tjphoenix on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 03:01 pm: Edit
Go with the ribeye vs. their "house specialty", the stuffed filet. It was like a "Hungry Man Salisbury Steak" entree after everything else!
By Robertosol on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 05:33 pm: Edit
I have had a filet mignon with a chocolate mole sauce, which was excellent. Apparently the rack of lamb is out of this world and from New Zealand.
By Tjphoenix on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 06:00 pm: Edit
I ordered the lamb shank taquitos expecting a high-end version of the rolled-fried ones here n the US but the head waiter wheeled up a cart and proceeded to re-heat the shanks, pull the meat off, & make 4 perfect litle tacos with fresh avocado, cilantro, and other vegetables.
FANTASTIC!
By Curious on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 11:39 pm: Edit
I would not really suggest Saverios for steaks. They do some really great things with food, but in general steak is not that great in Mexico, and I would say most other dishes there are better.
By Milkman on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 11:59 am: Edit
Ok thanks guys for your suggestions.
I have always been a La Espenada type of guy when my girlfriend drags me away form the dollar taco carts.
Will post about what I had and what I thought of it
thanks again
