Spend the money and take a cab to the Otay border crossing, where the walk is usually immediate. You can then take a transit bus back to san ysidro.

I came back Monday morning 3:45am, not expecting much of a walking wait. But I ended up getting across after 5:00am! I have never waited that long ever.
The line started at Linea Sentri where the taxi drops you off.
There has to be a better way. How much does a taxi cost from the Otay crossing? Does the Mexicoach run that late at night or another bus?

Normally, whenever I take a cab here or over the border, I tip on top of the fare, so I did save a buck.

How is the Sunday morning crossing?

I'm hoping to stay overnight this weekend (Saturday night) but need to be going north on I-5 by 8am. Should I expect a significant wait that early if I'm going north on foot?

Crossing on a Sunday morning is one of the BEST possible times to go as long as you hit the border no later than noon. I've made this Sunday crossing several times in the past month and have not experienced any delays... (prog)
