I'm thinking of staying in Tijuana for the first time. The Ceasar Hotel on Revolucion looks like an attractive alternative to standing in long lines to go back to my U.S. motel. Has anyone ever spent the night here? What is the price? Do you have any tips or advice? Thanks in advance for any help.
It is OK and an old standby for me. The rooms are basic. Beds uncertain . . . like a box spring sometimes. It can be noisy. Very convenient for the Revo scene. Book as two or pay the second person rate later. They are completely cool. Become a regular and pretty much anything can be yours for the asking. And they have their own club behind the bar. They used to make too much noise for the hotel, but it was OK last time. Much better area to stay in overnight than the zona.
Cantiflas,
IMHO Ceasars is a dump. Wasn't always that way and there was a time over ten years ago when it was one of the better hotels in tijuana.
Same thing for the bar except now the bar is modern, but you can't get a Tecate on draught and a tequila for under two dollars as you could about ten years ago. Also the food in the restaurant use to be very good - not anymore.
Before you check into Ceasars ask to see the room before you spend the night. Some of the rooms are nighmares.

El Cochino: Thanks for the tip on Ceasars. I will definitely check out the room first. BTW, is there another place that is within walking distance of the Zona? Anything that anyone would recommend? I checked out Las Cascadas and it's a little too close for me. I'm looking for something with a nice bathroom (and outlets) and a decent TV.

Hey Cantinflas,
I will be going down there on 12/7 or 12/15 and would like to stay in ZN.
What did you think of Las Cascadas?
Where did you end up staying at and what was it like?
Thanks buddy.

Concarne: I decided to book a reservation at Villa Zaragoza instead of Ceasars. I read all the reviews and it seemed to fit my criteria. Close enough to the Zona, but far enough away from all the noise. I haven't stayed at Las Cascadas yet. I rented a room there once, but they never gave me a key to the room. Instead, they told me that the bellboy would have to walk me to my room and let me in. That was probably so the guy could hit you up for a tip everytime. I also didn't like the fact that someone else can enter my room anytime and I can't. I thought that was BS, so I never stayed there. The area is a little too noisy for me as well. I was surprised that there weren't many reviews on Hotel Ceasar. So I guess I'll go for the best bet at Las Cascadas.

Good choice Cantinflas. Cascadas will give you a room key for a $10 refundable deposit.

Concarne: I just got back and had a great stay at Villa Zaragosa. I like the fact that there is an AM/PM market close by. My $51 room was clean and spacious. It was located in the courtyard section and I had lots of peace and quiet. It's close enough to all the action, yet it's far enough away to get a decent night's sleep. I should have done this a long time ago! And the best part is that there was no line to get back across the border on Sunday morning. I think this is the best way to go for now. BTW, an American chica who lives down there recommended the Hotel California on Baja California Street. This is another hotel that is closer to the Zona action. Supposedly, it's very new and very clean. Rooms start at $28. I'd be interested to know if anyone has stayed there yet and what they thought. But for now, La Villa Zaragoza is the way to go for me. No more Travel Lodge, Motel 6 or nightly cab rides back to the US border!

Yes...between 4th/5th on the West side of Revo.
The funny thing is I never see anyone coming or going from this hotel - never !!
A wong time ago I went to use this hotel and they quoted me like 45 fucks or something so I went to the VZD instead

Nice tables and chairs out on the sidewalk where you can have lunch and a cold beer while watching the people.

Incidently the area I am describing in right on the corner and not the tables in front of the hotel lobby area. I guess that area is still part of Ceasars?
If you like quail (the birds) I noticed they were cooking about 50 of then the other on a gas cooker out near the sidewalk. Also had shrimp, beef and chicken tacos and decent salsa and chips which I think are free with your beer.

GOT ROBBED WHILE SLEEPING BY SOMEONE WITH A KEY!
Took a SG there for an extended session. Since I had rented the room for the night and felt too tired to cross the border I decided to rest up for a couple hours. After she left I made sure the door was locked. I snoozed till about 2am. When I woke I found the door open, and my wallet, cash and cell phone missing. When I came in there was a group of guys hanging out downstairs by the check in. Obviously whoever got me either works there or has friends. I won't be using that hotel again and I advise others to pass. I think I'll also see about taking along a door jam.
Pagan,
The door jam is not too effective when removed from the inside tho. Have you thought about buying one of those motion sensors that go over the door knob and give off a very loud alarm when moved? This way if the chica gets up in the middle of the night to let herself out (after ripping you off) she'd have to crawl out the window or else set off the alarm. This way you're cover when the thief is on either side of the door.
