This new guy in office seems to be a hard charger who wants to clean up the police corruption, among other things.
Does that mean our playground is soon to be closed?
Opinions from the long-time mongers please.

No! Not at all does it mean the Zona(s) will be closed. Mexico is a Latin culture and it is not puritanical like the culture of the USA. I've been reading the Mexican newspapers for a couple of years now, and zonas de tolerencia are mentioned frequently with aplomb - as a solution to ridding commericial areas ( like Revolucion...) of prostitution. Fox may crack down on police corruption (and tax dodgers...) but this will not affect the zonas de tolerencia at all...because corrupt cops don't make the zonas. The Zonas exist because they are culturally acceptable.
In this respect, Mexico is much more like Europe...Even my Mexican comic books pay frequent tribute to the "evil Zonas of the northern border towns" where nefarious cartoon characters go to ply their underworld trades...Fox's biggest problems are Chiapas and Mexico City...

Fox has many more serious problems to worry about than the zona. Anyway, even if he DID want to close it down, he could not--the federal government has no say in a local matter like this...
