Come on, you knew what he meant. Besides, American English is distinct from Standard English, and is obviously pronounced differently. The study of the evolution of languages is sort of a hobby of mine. Only when a languare stops evolving, does it become a dead language(Latin is a good example). I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with calling our spoken language "American" - as we are the ones evolving the language the fastest(at the present time).

Except that the spanish you hear in TJ is every bit as "american" as the english you speak in the u.s.. Mexico is in America after all. I know what your point is, but it is a tad arrogant of us to assume the word "american" only applies to gringos in the u.s.. Everybody from the americas, both north and south america, are indeed americans.
