Actually, I think ALL of the Zona Norte bars and hotels could use dollar ATMs. They could charge an outrageous surcharge and get away with it. I've been in state-side MPs that have their own ATM.

Tropical is rough around the edges but isn't so bad. If you're a regular, you don't see the cheese plate. The place could use a good thorough cleaning, but the chicas are the down-to earth types and to some folks, that works. If the masero brings you a cheese plate, just say "Chaaaaalllee Buey..." In all fairness I must say I am very contento with TB now. The wait staff don't push me anymore and the changes are returned promptly. Thanks tjjohnny!
In a busy night there seems to be a shortage on chicas. I saw some hombres fondled waitresses when they brought in drinks. I hope they will recruit more bonitas.
Also beware there're some ficha drinkers that don't even want to get their @ss off the bar stool. The one from TJ has the worst attitude.

I also have been very pleased with Tropical the past few weeks. The waiters have not tried to pull any scams on me. They tend to be very aggressive, but that is because there are too many of them and I tend to go at times there are not lots of customers.
I was there last Sunday night with friends and enjoyed the club perhaps more than any other time. There were several hotties and the floor show was very good. The waitress serving our large group did a very good job attending our needs.
Tropical is my favorite bar now. I will always love AB, but Tropical offers things AB does not.
Tropical has two for one beers and a low price for a bucket of beers. They have many "natural" sort of girls who are more typical of the regular Mexican population rather that the super hotties(many with implants) at AB and CC. Also, Tropical is a good place to dance for those who love Mexican music.
Tropical and Las Chavelas are two good places to go for those who are hard core Latin lovers. It is a total Mexican experience.

Haven't seen a cheese plate in weeks...

Yeah, I noticed that also. Maybe they got the message. Maybe the management really does want to improve.
They get my vote for the most improved club in TJ.

This place has actually gotten worse. It's been a year since I stopped in. I met a pretty girl and had a great time with her, but was amazed that the asshole waiters were worse than ever. Pushy about drinks and girls, tried to scam me twice in 5 minutes, asshole remarks. I swear I will never spend another nickle in this hole. It's Juarez in ZN.
It's too bad a few crook waiters can spoil the whole image of a bar.. The place seems to have quite a few honest ones, however..
Last night waiter #4 served us for awhile.. We were a party of 4 and had a GREAT time with no hassels or scams in about a 2 1/2 hour period..
Great music and plenty of sexy chicas.. 2 for 1 beers ($250 for 2) until 7PM.. Bucket of 10 beers for around $12.50... (saves on tips, ;o)
I'll admit, you need to be on guard in Tropical for scams (currently it seems to be the chips as the cheese plates have gone) such as fast changing a $10 or $20 that suddenly appears to be a $1..
Last night we had none of that BS, only a helluva lot of fun.. On the other hand AB seemed a bore and likewise for Las Chavelas, Pollo and El Pelicano..
It seems to me that TB mesero(a)s have a very high turn around rate. I was told that they are not paid by the bar. This is different from other zona clubs, as I understand. That's probably why they are more aggressive. Sometimes they are nice, sometimes they are nasty. I was served gueso plato once. I recalled reading a post about a poor hungry chica so how could I say no? Still I was not convinced. I asked the chica whether she wanted. She nodded and at the same time kicked me under the table. I took the hint and rewarded her later.
Another time I met a rookie waiter. I tipped him an extra dollar and he was puzzle. He didn’t know what to do with the money and I told him to keep it. He was overjoyed and stood by me the rest of the night. Didn’t see him again.

I was talking to one of the managers a few days ago, either Edwin or Samuel. He speaks pretty fair English. I said that many guys would like to have the attractive, friendlier women stick around longer. That it would also probably be a lot more profitable for TB if there were not such a phenomenally high turn-over rate. It seems like the highest of the major bars in La Coahuila, and higher than the sidewalk senoritas (SG's).
He asked what I suggested, to increase retention. So, I'd like to seek some suggestions from the board.

Give them me as their boy toy!
"Sidewalk Senorita's." I like that. Has a nice ring to it. .
BTW Avisar, I was in CC a few weeks ago and someone pointed you out, ( I was with a couple of fellow-CH mongers) But out of respect to your privacy, and seeing that I have a lot more to hide than you when it comes to keeping my anonymity intact, I thought it best I'd not go introduce myself.
I prefer "Sidewalk Señoritas" to "Street Girls." The former is more accurate. After all, very few of the women stand or walk in the streets, to ply their wares! It is also less demeaning. I've had my share of bad or mediocre experiences with them. I've also had lots of great times. The same, I'll say, of bar babes.
With a name like "Masterbates," you may well have good reason for wanting to stay undercover! Literally!
I don't mind gringos introducing themselves. Afterall, I hosted a party at TB, last 12/19!
I might well have a problem with someone tieing in my Hobby, with non-Hobby activities. That is, striking up a conversation with me, about the hobby, while I'm with non-hobby friends. Which is one reason I have always used an alias in La Coahuila.
Was talking to Edwin, assistant manager of TB, again, recently. Hey, he started it! Honest, I prefer talking to women! He wanted to know when I'm bringing down more U.S.-style pastries - pies and brownies. As they cannot, according to him, reduce the music in just a portion of the room, and don't seem willing to turn it down in all of the room, I'm not too eager to host another party there. Further, about 20 meseros ate pastries, but only 3 of Sinaloa's finest.
Edwin said he was back at work after having been laid off for a couple of weeks. Wonder what that was about?
More importantly, at least, to us, I asked him, "Does this bar ever have a bar fine?"
He said, "Yes, for all-nighters, any night or day, its $70." Which seems hugely excessive, and disproportionate to other bars ($10 in AB, according to a recent post). But it confirms the story I was getting, around last September.
In fact, shortly later, after a couple of hours with my favorita, we were rudely interupted by a knock at the door. Coitus fuckin' interuptus! A couple of those pesky mesoros! Now, the last thing I like, is being confronted, by two men, in the middle of a reunion, after she'd been away for a few months!
Not being much of a drinker, I was NOT mollified by the bucket of beers they tried to shove through the door, which I would only open a couple of inches. With my left hand grasping a pepper spray cannister....
They wanted me to buy, at $7 each, about 10 tiny beers! I finally bargained them down to two beers, $14. No tip.
As I suspected, my lovely amiga was not interested in drinking them. Which suited me just fine, anyway. I put them away, for the show downstairs.
A while later, another interuption! Fichas! I should have been the one to get them, and cash them in!
Just now, I finally realize what I should have done: refuse the beer. Our session was about done, in fact, we did not resume. And, the damn shower was so hopeless, we could not shower, there.
Here's my businesman's breakdown of the $70 bar fine: I believe it is supposed to pay for 10 drinks, at $7 each, for the woman you are depriving the bar of. But, my understanding is that about $3.50 of each drink goes to the ficha, for the woman. And, the beer cost something- perhaps only $.50, but something. So, that leaves $3/ drink, for the bar.
Multiplying that times the 10 drinks, we have a bar fine of $30.
Still way too high, in comparison to other bars.
But, that is also - or should be - for depriving the bar of the full shift of a woman. Few all-nighters actually do that. We start in, at some point midway through the shift. We may well be with her, after her shift would normally end. But, as has been pointed out elsewhere on this board, that is not - or should not - be any concern of the bar's.
The work shift in this bar is about 9 hours. We should be able to pay a pro-rated bar fine. So, for two hours, 2/9 of $30 = (.222)($30) = $6.67.
Oh, and the first 1/2 hour should not be fined, just as it is not, when doing a half-hour session.
What are other's thoughts? Before trying to talk to the management, I'd like to have things reasoned out.
Meanwhile, I will try to arrange for long sessions, when a woman does not usually work there.
Few of us are as wealthy as Sinaloan narcotrafficers! That's one of the reasons I like the women of this bar - relatively modest prices, especially for longer sessions.
I 've usually not been bar-fined. This was the first time I paid a fine. The other time that they wanted to hit me with it, I refused to go up.
If I'd gotten bad service from my favorita, I'd have deducted the ficha value from her pay. Fortunatly, she was as horny as ever.

$70 barfine at Tropical? The bar where chicas come and go as they please and half the time you can never actually find them in the bar during their 'shifts'?
You bought ficha drinks DURING A SESSION?
Sorry, dude, but as I've said before, PT Barnum had a damned good point.
Re: 'talking to management', sounds like you've already been (correctly) labeled a sucker. If you can't figure out a way around a $70 barfine with a little help from your honey or can't quite figure out how to say 'FUCK THE HELL OFF' when some fucking WAITER (sounds to me like your chica's boyfriend was pushing your envelope) bangs on your door during a session, I doubt your 'negotiations' are going to be very successful.
No WONDER they try and pull these scams on gringos!
LOL. If you ask "Is there a barfine?" the inevitible answer will be "yes." Too funny ... that has to be one of the stupidest questions ever posed in TJ ... right up there with "The Zona is closed?"

Actually, I think there may be a bar fine applied to the dancers in the floor show.
When I was seeing Alma, one of the dancers, sometimes waiters would track us down in the room. I usually would get an all night room so we could take our time (being an old man, I can't get my pants off in the time it takes some of you guys to fuck).
Usually we would watch the clock, and she would already be back in the club getting ready to dance. Only once did they catch her still in the room, and she got dressed quickly and went back to the club with the waiter.
Later we went back to my room for round two.
Several chicas from there have left with me at the end of their shifts. Some have met me outside the club. Never have I actually had to pay a bar fine there, but there has been mention of it.
Thanks for comming to my rescue, Curious.
The way I worded the question to mgmt was, Is there a bar fine, and I did not ask, as I was about to go up. I was trying to see if my favorita was trying to skam me.
It does seem absurd, that they would pull charge this, when the girls are so in and out, if yu will.
My favorita does not strip (except in the room).

I always make clear to a chica that any barfine is coming out of HER end. You'd be amazed how creative they can get at that point at simply going for a walk and not coming back for several hours.
By Porker on Sunday, February 09, 2003 - 12:31 am: Edit |
If the chica is not a stripper there is NO excuse for charging ANY barfine, as to my knowledge the average Tropical chica (non-stripper) is not paid a salary to work -- it's pure commission on fichas -- and there are no minimum day requirements for working weekends, meaning they are pretty close to free agents that can come and go as they please.
And remind me again why you bought ficha drinks when the waiters showed up at your door?
As far as the idea that there are no minimum hours that they must work, that seems to no longer be the case. A tight rein is now kept on them. Whether that be taking them to a restaurant within eyesight of the doorway to TB, or upstairs for more than 1/2 hour. It applies to me, some (not all) other guys, and with a variety of women.
And to clarify my post, in which I said I asked about a bar fine; I was told the same amount, $70, when I asked a variety of personnel. So, at least their policy is consistent, albeit rather absurd. On the other hand, the actual # of beers one must buy seems to be about 1-2.
All of which has led me to arrange more dates on other nights. Which is my preference anyways, because it gets us out of La Coahuila, to some nice places, for a lot less $$$$$, even aside from any ficha beers.
And as to why I bought any beers, it was because I had paid for the room for the night, and I wanted that particular woman. And no, to anticipate a question, I did not want to take up another woman, as I was also taking this one on dates, outside the area. And may still be doing so. Of course, to take up another from the same bar, during this woman's shift, would probably jeopardise continuing those dates, and possibly the great sex (which to be sure, has always been "for pay").
