WHERE: 1407 Jose Maria Velasco

DIRECTIONS: Off of Paseo de los Heroes on the same street as Mundo Divertido.

CLOSEST MONGERING: Not much close by.

RATING: 4 1/2 STARS

FOOD: Traditional Mexican fare done in creative fashion. Very tasty. Very good consumme and caldos. Try the Cafe de la Jolla (Cofee with ground cinamon)

ATMOSPHERE: Very small and upscale. You should get reservations for dinner as this place is very popular yet small. Valet parking available.

SERVICE: Great. Only problem is that the cooks are a little slow and the tables are pretty close together.

PRICE: 8-12 dollar entrees

For a long time I ate here often. The food, and the service, varies from night to night.

It is a small place, the tables are to close together for my tastes, but sometimes the food can be extrodinary. I had the best duck I have ever tasted here one night.

Also the location is near a nice hotel that I liked to stay at in the old days.

Get there early if you don't have a reservation. I often got a table by promising to not stay too long, so that they could seat someone who did have a reservation later on.

BTW, the Real del Rio, which is almost next door, has a nice bar just off the lobby. Nice place to sit and talk, open till midnight. You don't need to be a guest to use the bar. I have spent many a nice evening in that bar.

Memories....

Excellent place, I go there periodically. A very nice place to bring a special chica, or friends from the US. Comparable food can be found in San Diego (El Agave in Old Town).

there is now a new place, Hacienda Cien Anos. It is next to Saverios and has entertainment in a new bar area below after 11pm

We ate at the New Hacienda Cien Anos last night. Potatohead, me and friend of Potatohead. It was his forth trip with us, each time we hit AB early, knock off a piece, go have dinner, then hit CC sometime after 9:00 for round two. So far we've taken him to Saverio's, La Diferencia, Cyrus, now this place. Matre'd speaks English and helped with the menu's.

I had a ribeye, it was alright. Beautiful inside, much larger than the other Cien Anos, very romantic place to take a date, like Saverio's.

Maybe the best part was people watching, many, many people, beautiful women everywhere, the men all dressed up, mostly suit and ties.

When you leave your car is up front and running, very cool.

I was there last night. I had dinner at Saverios, always awesome and then hit the bar downstairs at Hacienda Cien Anos. It is a great addition and fun place to go for drinks. Saverios is tough to beat.
