WHERE: Sanchez Taboada and 10th
DIRECTIONS: Across from Mercado Hidalgo
RATING: 3 STARS
FOOD: Excellent selection of cockteles, ceviche, fish filletes and other shellfish variety. Pretty much any type of seafood imagineable. Some unique items include: Cocktail de Caracol (a sea snail), Crab ceviche, Almeja Gratinada (Clam in the shell mixed with cheese and picadillo), Fish filete in chipotle sauce, machaca de Marlin plate and Shrimp diablo (very spicy).
ATMOSTPHERE: Sinaloa. All the drug traffickers you can shake a stick at. Banda played on Certain nights. Very informal setting. Palapas covering surrounding outside of restaurant. Kind of cool to see all of the fresh shellfish prepared right in front of you. Supposedly Negro Durazo was a corrupt policeman whom helped the drug traffickers in Mexico and obtained legendary status by being mysteriously gunned down. (the locals say it was the honest police whom did it but we know who really did it)
SERVICE: Busy place so service can be slow at times.
PRICE: Mariscos are extremely high in TJ because they cater to the Ranchero Drug traffickers ready to splurge after a big deal. Expect to drop at least 40-50 for 2 people.
