Dropped into the Isis bar last Friday afternoon about five PM. Mostly fives and below. Saw three or four stripper routines. Bought one girl a drink in a booth for the exploration privileges. I pop in there from time to time...you just have to know how to handle the place. When you first walk in and a chica leaps on you...just give her a firm but polite "No Gracias"...take her hands in yours if you have to and gently guide them away and wave goodbye. Then to get a good look at whatever is lurking in the booths (sometimes the pickings do seem of another species!) just walk around the place and say hi when you get close enough to see....don't like anything...split. Maybe its because I generally enter the bar during daylight hours, but I really can't see anything in there - its worse than the first 2 minutes walking into AB.

I always give Unicornio and Isis a looksee. But you can't really gauge the situation by just cruising the bar quickly. This is because, especially at Isis, as many as half the ladies may be in the ladies changing room at any given time. I don't know what the hell they do back there--dope, sex, TV, quien sabe--but they spend a lot of time there. So you have to give yourself a few minutes to see if any of the real lookers emerge from the back room. Also, especially at night, the chicas will migrate from U. to I. and back again, so what you see on a quick cruise may not be the whole story.

I always buy one beer ($3) and sit and watch the dancers for about ten minutes. This gives each of the ladies a chance to come up and make their sales pitch. You can see them close up and make your decision. Usually, if you say no emphatically, the chica will leave you alone from then on. (It also gives me a chance to grope the dancers and check out their assets.) Once each lady has come by, I'll either choose from the available talent or leave. Ten minutes, 3-5 bucks, a couple of well-placed gropes, it's tough duty but all in a day's work keeping tabs on these Revo bars.

OK, I didn't know there were more hiding in the back. I'd sit at the bar though, those filthy tablecloths and torn and ripped bench seats scare the shit out of me.

My "mo" is the same as Matiz'. When you walk down the stairs to the Unicornio enter by the door on the RIGHT, where the bar is, or when you walk in Isis, hang a LEFT to their bar. Have a seat on a barstool, have a drink, and let your eyes adjust. Sure, you'll still get "mauled" by the barflys (which is half the fun in those places) but at least they won't TRAP you in a booth with no escape.

At last some fresh info on Revolution Bars... Keep in mind (especially during the day) the police will arrest you if they see you leave these bars and head to a hotel. I got pinched a couple of years ago. At least they let me do my business upstairs before busting me. Seeing Epimetheus's post today about Unicornio reminds me that Ronin and I walked into Isis last Wednesday night to survey the human wreckage. It was about as we expected but perhaps a bit busier and better stocked than usual, with a few species represented. We took a lap with Ronin using forceful but polite Spanish to keep the barker away from us. Just before we are about to return to the fresh air, we spot a JOVEN, BONITA, FLACA chica on the auxilary stage (across from the bar) -- I am surmising that she is the granddaughter of one of the other chicas. I've now taken 3 up to the room from Isis. Only one of 'em turned out to be any good. I would take the handjob/BJ in the bar, and skip the trip upstairs.

Some logistical details to add to previous post:

Trailbos, that info isn't precisely correct. There is no barfine to take a chica to the hotel shared by Isis & Unicornio. There would be a barfine if you take her to the Villa de Zaragoza or other hotel while she's still on her shift. True the hotel costs $20...but that is supposed to be for the standard 30 minute sessions. However, business is generally so poor, I doubt that they would time pressure your stay in the hotel as long as the chica doesn't.

Your buddy got scammed at the VZ as well. There is no $10 "guest fee" unless the hotel staff is aware that you are bringing multiple chicas to your room. The room rate is for double occupancy. Always register for 2 people and fill in a chica name on the registration form. If they bother you, you tell them your chica is a registered guest.

What you experienced in Isis is more or less standard operating procedure. If you've got an itch to play this nasty in public, there will always be a number of chicas willing to accomodate you in Isis or Unicornio.

I kinda thought he got burned on the hotel surcharge, as we had one of the "suites" for seventy bucks a night, with three of us staying there - the room is suppose to be for up to six people. The VZ really does cater to several diverse markets...business and family tourist segments are at least as important as their niche among we depravados, but no more so. They've got quite a monopoly on what they have to offer in Zona Centro...quiet U.S. style comfort and hotel services in a great location at a reasonable price - including parking.

I don't believe the VZ could ever be generally characterized as a scam operation, though obviously they have had individuals working there throughout the years who take advantage of isolated opportunities. I don't believe there is a single business catering to tourists in the Centro/ZN districts where isolated scams aren't perpetrated. Recently VZ fired a night clerk who we VZ regulars assume was involved in some of the reported scammitry...they have also replaced security guards in the past.

I estimate that I've spent an average of 3 nights per month at the VZ for the last 4 years...so what's that?...close to 150 nights. On ONE SINGLE occasion was any kind of flim flam ever attempted on me. I don't even know who the nightime security guard is since he's never once intervened in my path. Maybe he's fucking Milky all night while he should be keeping a watch on my fucking car!

Anyhow, I think the key to having a hassle free experience is to understand what your room rate buys you in advance and the rules pertaining to extra guests (do register chica no. 1)...understand the different kinds of rooms and prices they offer, and most important, be proactively courteous and friendly to the staff. That doesn't mean bribing them with propinas/mordidas - that is NOT required to be well treated at the VZ. Get to know the people there and they will bend over backwards to give you service and perks that no U.S. hotel would consider...e.g. they allow me to checkout as late as I need to so long as they have vacancies...I've checked out as late at 4-5PM; they let me leave my car in their lot the day I checkout...it may be there 12 hours or more at no charge after I've checked-out.

Luis the longtime day desk clerk has told me that weekday business is way down right now. They fill up every weekend but lots of weekday vacancies they didn't used to have.

My $.02 is that I have always had good service, clean room, and no hassle. They were super about watching a bag after I checked out, getting a cab at an odd hour, etc.
