The "E" I know there is a pro, says she is 23, has 2 living kids and a 3rd that died, lives nearby in an apartment.

Be on your guard here, there are some really loco local hombres who frequent this place as well.

Loco is right. At about 2AM on Christmas morning I was walking to Playboy to meet a friend. I was drunk and not paying attention, so I walked right by the first door. The usual goup of waiters was standing out front, as well as some other guys. As I went by, one of these others jumped me from behind and threw his arm around my head. The guy was all of 130 pounds and drunk, so I just pushed him off and turned to confront him, thinking it was possibly a case of mistaken identity. Everybody just stood there looking at me, and my friend came out the second door, so I just walked over and told him what had happened. As he and I walked back through the crowd, I saw one of the waiters look at my assailant and give a small nod. The first guy then walked on ahead of me, and another one trailed behind us. I walked far enough away to get some room, then stopped. The second guy was wrapping a chain around his hand, but they just stood there and looked at us. After a few seconds we crossed the street and went on our way. It was not until the next morning that I realized that the guy had been trying to put me in a chokehold and, presumably, rob me. I know it seems obvious now, but this jerk was so ineffectual it just did not hit me right away. The waiters were obviously in on the whole thing, which is not surprising to me considering that I have always found the Playboy waiters to be the biggest scumbags around. This is actually the only club where I have serious problems with the meseros, although the guys out in front of Hacienda used to get on my nerves. This may have been an isolated incident. The police were extremely light due to the holidays, and business was really slow. I was a lone gringo who was drunk and not paying attention. Had more people joined in, or had the first asshole been more competent, they would have been successful. I am actually glad it happened. I had gotten way too comfortable in the zona, and broke just about every safety rule I know. I got a very cheap and painless lesson. It also reconfirmed my opinion of the Playboy staff. A friend who has started hanging out there has been telling me that I was off base regarding them, but I now know I was not.

I responded to your post on the discussion board, and I alluded to this incident on a post I made there back on the 26th.

That was the night we also had to fend off a couple of the joto's who were being overly aggressive. While the guy wrapping the chain around his hand and I were facing off I noticed a few other guys gathering around that gave me the impression would have been on "their" side as well. It came very close. I don't know who it was that told you you were "off base". Maybe if he got swung on he'd think differently. Was your friend referring to the incident you had with the guy beforehand where he tried to bark you in and you called him a pinche something?

Anyways like I said on the Discussion thread, perhaps because of the relative lack of biz this past season the level of desperation is up, I haven't detected this level of potential violence in the last 3-4 years of my visits to the Zona.

Keep your eyes open guys and be careful, a lot of you don't realize how much you scream "victim" down there.

Hmmm. I'm glad I didn't meet those guys when I walked through that door not 1/2 hour before. I was still feeling the effects of the substance dropped in my drink back at the Pussycat club...

When I was in the bathrooms around 2:30 there was a guy bellied up to the piss trough taking a leak. He was so drunk that after pissing he began to lean over the trough so his head and left shoulder were against the wall. This ended up placing his hand in the piss trough. I remember his ring kept clanging against the back of the metal trough. Took the "attendant" a minute or two to wake the fellow and get him back on his way. And THAT'S why I now wash my hands after shaking hands with drunk Mexicans... heheh

Glad you made it out in one piece. They may not have picked me because I appeared sober (glad they didn't figure it out...).

As for theiving waiters in Playboy - it's not like that's anything new anywhere in the zone. I try to find a waitress instead of a waiter - the ladies seem to rip me off less for what it's worth. Isn't that a shame? We go down and just try to MINIMIZE the ripoffs!! The weekend I go to Mexico and not one person tries to cheat me or quote me a price completely out of control is the weekend I will die of complete and utter shock!!!!

Added note: Even some of the dancers & fichitas there will only use certain waiters. Partly because they're friends of course, but partly because they know who the bigger thieves are. This place is really a mixed bag in all respects. Good for some adventure sometimes, but always stay on your guard.

Epi, it could have been anywhere from 1:30 AM to 3:00 AM. Like I said, I was drunk.

Redongdo, my friend was just saying that the waiters there were not really that bad, and that it was just my imagination, or maybe I had just met a couple of "bad apples". Of course, he has a couple of waiters that he always uses when he goes there, so he may have found the cream of the crop. Even in a place this scummy, I would think there would be at least a few who were reasonably decent. As far as the other guys, that whole group was definitely chummy. That was why I put some distance between us and the group at the door before stopping. If their buddies had been getting the worst of the fight, as I am sure would have been the case, I am not really certain that they would have risked their skins to help out. If we had been losing, on the other hand, I would not have been surprised to see them jump in and get in a few cheap shots.

For those who don't know me, I am not bashing all zona waiters. I have a few whom I consider friends and sometimes associate with when they are not working. Even most of the aggressive BT, LC and MB waiters don't annoy me too much. It is only at Playboy that I have such a low opinion of the meseros.

The entire post were things I thought were important for AVOIDING trouble. At the end of the post I gave a simple recomendation for breaking the choke hold.

Boy the majority of guys really tore me a new asshole. It was actually pretty funny now that I think back to it.

hippie, good job. Being that you were drunk, you probably do not remember what the assholes looked like. If you do, and if they are still there, it might be worth the time to visit the police station and file a complaint.

Thanks for the kudos guys, but trust me, it was absolutely no big accomplishment on my part. The guy was considerably smaller than me, and I suspect he was at least as drunk. If I had just followed the same advice I have given other people on this board, I am pretty sure the whole incident would have never happened.

Powerslave, I looked around last Friday and did not see the two guys who were actively involved. The only description I could give would be 5'7 - 5'9, 130 - 140 lbs. I don't think that would help much in ID'ing him. If my policeman friend was still working in the Zona Norte like last Xmas, I would have gone and gotten him, but I don't know any of the current crop and don't think they would do much. I thought about it, but figured their buddies would just stick up for them and say I was lying.

This bar has now reached a critical mass of TOO MANY FUCKING WAITERS... with many of them resorting to high pressure and scam tactics.

It is now OFF my list of recommended clubs. It can dry up and blow away for all I care now... I don't plan on going back in this place until they get rid of the 6-10 vultures (waiters) on the sidewalk just looking for the next customer to fuck.

Is it just me, or are all these fucking waiters at many of these clubs starting to get on you all's nerves too?

I agree! Diego I was there pre-loading and try to get the feeling before steping in to CC and AB. I always get this, A waiter bring a chica out of nowhere and sit next to me and bring out her drinks at the same time expect me to pay $14 for it not including his tip... I don't mind if I pick the chica or have asked for her.

I took some of my friends to this place on a Thursday night and had a blast! I had been here before and was attracted by the cheap 2x1 price for beer.

We were looking for a place to hang out, dance, and flirt with some women before we headed off for the Chicago Club and Adelitas.

As soon as we walked in, we blew off the male waiters. I spotted a pretty female waitress and asked her to be our waitress. Man, this turned out to be a great move.

She turned out to be a former stripper who was now waitressing at this club. She started serving us and we started to rock and roll. I saw a very pretty girl named Paulina and asked her to come over. It turns out that she is a stripper for this place. She sat down with me, danced with me, flirted with me and was great company. She got one of her friends to come over and the party was on. One of my friends liked our waitress, so he invited her to sit down as his guest.

We're all drinking and laughing when the girls decide to give us free lap dances and started flashing their body parts. They showed their tits, and pulled down their pants to show off their thongs. We were all shocked to discover that our waitress wasn't wearing any! Damn!

My girl, Paulina, asked me if I'd like her to change into something sexy. I said yes, and she left for a few minutes. Then she came back dressed in a flimsy bikini with a USA-style motif (this outfit is very popular right now with the TJ strippers and club girls.)

The girls continued to entertain us and all it cost us was $5 for their pony style beer. They drank their beer and got drunk with us. I even bought a private lap dance with Paulina in a private back room area (cost was 2 songs for $20 with all the touching that I wanted.)

Our waitress was nice enough to tell us which waiters would try to scam us and was watching our backs. We tipped her extra when we left the bar. We were all in a good mood and damn horny. Not a bad way to start off the night.

If you're looking for this particular waitress, here's her description (Sorry, I forgot her name.)

She's in her 30's, with dark black hair pulled back in a ponytail and wears make-up. She has a very nice stripper's build and is not fat or chunky.

Just wanted to put in my $.02 since there hasn't been a post on this place in a long time. I've been going there lately, and having a pretty good time. Most are pretty friendly, and I get treated pretty well since they don't get the amount of gringos that frequent the places a little east of there. Lots of strippers, and lower prices then most other places. The chicas aren't the quality of the ones at AB, CC, OR LC, but they seem to make up for it with friendliness. Just keep an eye on the waiters when you pay them, or if you give them a larger bill, they might claim you gave them a $1. Best to insist on a mesera (female) I prefer Vicki. Consider giving this place a try, just for a change of pace.

I have not been there for a couple of months, but in the past I have had a good time there. Vickie is also my favorite mesera. From time to time a "looker" is working. My fave is Gabby (very petite with a very poor complexion). Playboy mostly caters to the Mexicans, who prefer the plump chicas. So most of the time there is not much there to appeal to the average Americano.

Vicky is the sweetest mesera and everyone should ask for her. The other meseras, especially Mary, are usually good. The waiters on the other hand, are usually thieves and change often. The exception is the captain of the waiters, he has or had a goatee but his name slips my mind.

Well, maybe I will try Playboy despite all the crappy news about the waiters, because I would make a good Mexican; I love 'em chunky! What are the other best clubs for Mexican chunky style, especially w/ big T's?

The Playboy Club on Coahuila that is west of the intersection of Niņos Heroes that the other posts under this topic relate to no longer exists. Other clubs have opened and closed in its place and the "Playboy" name flipped over to another club on Constitucion that used to be known as "Odisea 2001" which I believe had the same ownership as the original Playboy. Are you following?

So the new Playboy in the old Odisea location is really two different clubs the last time I looked, but things may have changed even though my last surveillance was only about 3-4 months ago. I sense a change because the pitch from the army of street hawks is different - no longer urging gringos "upstairs" with as much enthusiasm as before.

When I visited the downstairs was a hardcore Mexican drinking bar/dance hall/ficha bar. Zero gringos. On that particular weekend night, the chica selection was surprisingly good - fresh and pretty rancheritas - and the place was going strong.

Gringos and Mexicans who look more like money than alcoholic vaqueros were ushered upstairs to a disorganized unkempt kind of strip club with zombie/goth/drugged out nightmare chicas wandering about in search of larceny. Absolutely horrible. Zombies dancing listlessly onstage with next to no nudity or contact with anybody sitting close at the rail.

I probably couldn't make this sound any worse but I am glad there are clubs like this upstairs spook house at Playboy. I like the aura of danger and the expectation that all kinds of wicked fun could suddenly break out.

So - hardly recommended but maybe worth a look now and then for adventurers wanting off the main trail. I do recommend the downstairs for mongers who also enjoy clubs like Rio Verde or El Fracaso on Primera. Again though, my TJ sixth sense tells me that the upstairs scene has faded or is following a different model than I experienced.
