I believe that was the Hotel Coahuila, alley-side (Callejo'n) entrance, you would have used for someone near the Valentine Bar. You may know it better as AB's hotel, on the other side of the block. I've tried to walk north, thru the hotel, and run into nothing but walls.
Sorry about your too-typical SG experience. There are, however, some good SG bargains.
