One of the cheaper of the upscale Zona Rio hotels.

Jose María Velesco - 1409 A
Just off of Avenue Paseo de Heroes
Phone: 634-31-00

I have stayed here frequently. Base room rate went from $70 to $80 a few months ago. It is about half way between Camino Real and the Lucerna. Both are nicer and more expensive. Next door to Cien Años and lots of good restaurants in walking distance. Good slightly upscale place for overnighters outside of El Centro. No chica problems, but don't bring a parade. Quiet area. Difficult to make reservations without some fundamental Spanish.

Suites with large jacuzzis available for $175 for very special occasions. Over priced, but nice.

Is this the same place as Hacienda Del Rio???

By Gitano on Sunday, January 28, 2001 - 07:19 am:  Edit

No, I do not think so. If I am remembering the Hacienda correctly, it's more of a motor lodge and it's located on Caliente, where as Real del Rio is a block off Avenue Paseo de Heros.

Real del Rio, as noted above is next to Cien Anos, and close to Baby Rock. Great place to stay. It is quiet, great quality, and reasonable. You can park underneath and go straight up to your room by elevator, without having to go through the lobby. No problem taking people to the hotel. It is generally a hotel for business visitors.

Hi fellow mongers, long time visitor, first time poster. I have a question for the veterans: I am having todos noches con mi favorita Tuesday night. I'd like to have a room with a jacuzzi (never stayed in a hotel in TJ with one before). I'm wondering if Real del Rio is my best bet. Are there other moderately upscale hotels with this option that are a little more affordable? I'm not cheap, but I thought if there is something better than this hotel for similar cost, I would be interested. I don't want my choice for jacuzzi suites to be between Real del Rio and Cascadas' suite (I've heard they have them as well). Any info you could post would be mucho appreciado (? mi espanol no es bueno).

Cascadas is good for a jacuzzi, but the best is Motel El Parador.

If you search, you'll find lots of info about it.

Thanks for the info, amigo. I will try it out and post how it was...

I used this hotel almost exclusively for the last year. I pay $65 for a great room (much cleaner and nicer than VZ for example). They hold reservations without a credit card (not on Fri + Sat), the parking is underground and safe, there is plenty to do around there (Cien Anos, Baby Rock,Plaza Fiesta, Mundo Divertido).
I used Hotel Nelson, Las Cascadas and Villa Zaragosa each for a while, but all have staff which eventually will try to rip you off and scam you. Real del Rio is what I expect from a professionally run hotel business and gives me a great stress-free home.

This is a very nice hotel. I stayed here in late Feb. 2007 for a TLN. My amiga was especially pleased. It was great to just walk next door to Cien Anos for a truly gourmet meal in classy surroundings.

I reserved the room using Orbitz and got a $70 rate plus taxes. For the same night, Hotel Pueblo Amigo was $140 and Camino Real was $100. I liked this place better than either of those.

The room and bath are smaller than Pueblo Amigo, but still nice. Real del Rio is cleaner and better maintained than the PA. It also has a nice bar and good restaurant for desayuno.

The hotel seemed quiet the night I stayed. The next morning I realized that the parking lot had 8 of those big black-and-white Federal Police trucks in it. And I saw a couple guys walking around with camo and black bulletproof vests. I guess with the federales at Real del Rio, the troublemakers were staying away!

If I could get a good rate again, I would stay here.

As I recall, the only real problem with Real del Rio is that the beds are as hard as boards. Otherwise, it's a great place. Nice restaurant, no hassles, basement parking and elevators to the rooms upstairs.

Hola. Just checked into Real del Rio. Rate is $73.00 per night. Seems like an up and up hotel. More of a business/family type of setup. Rooms are nice. Similiar to that of a Holiday Inn but with a nicer bed, although it seems rather stiff. No big deal as I won't remember it later anyways. Nice clean shower and vanity area. There is a safe, cold AC and it is in a safe area. Parking garage below. Need to check and see if they have an elevator to bring up the chicas.
