Last night/yesterday seemed to be day one of a new taxi/turf war between the local taxis that sit out front of the CC and LT bars and the taxi giant "yellow cab". In front of CC last night there were 5 cop cars just waiting for something to happen. The yellow cabs from the border were just crusin around the block in a parade, 'real slow, counted over 100 yellow cabs parading'. The drivers made a human wall where you had to walk to a yellow cab to get into a cab. The cab drivers were even pushing around the shoe-shine boy that sits in front of Tacos el Primo. This thing is going to get UGLY if it goes for a long time, the yellow cab group is known for strong arm tactics with their own employees, how do you think they will treat someone they are trying to put out of business?

Have the taxis gone to using the Meters yet?

no not yet
I heard it was for only the collectivos and not for the tourist gringo cabs.
But they havent voted on it yet.
I vote no !!!
what a few cents less or more while to a collectivo driver that can mean tons of money per month.
the gas costs nearl 3 fucks a gallon and they also need to maintain these nearly 20 year old cabs weekly !!

That would suck. The cabbies would start taking newbies on long tours of TJ before dropping them off at their destinations. It would just be another scam we'd all have to put up with.
I don't even take the taxis anymore, unless there are special circumstances (rain, extreme cold or heat). The walk in is easy, and the long walk out gives me extra time to work the booze out of my head.

For the collectivos to use meters is logically impossible, won't happen. Too many people getting on and off at different locations. And disallowing the collectivos to have fixed routes would cause massive disruption for the average commuter in Tijuana. I can only believe that the taxi changes are for taxis especial/particular.
