If you haven't seen Cinepolis VIP at Plaza Rio, you are missing a great place. The VIP theatre is nicer than any place I have seen in the US. All the seats are plush black leather, set up for couples. There is a bar where you can buy drinks and take into the theatre. There is a Sushi bar, although it's not what I consider real Sushi. One place serves delicious crepes. This is a fantastic place to see movies.

AND...Corona on tap!
I've had more dates here then any other one theater in the US! Hell, I even got a BBBJ during a movie where we were the only people in the theater.

Yes it is the best theater I have been in. I have been kumming here for about 4 years now. Matter fact I just checked out the oldest and smallest theater TJ has to offer. Tickets were 15 pesos each and is located at 5 st and Cinco and Dmiyo?
It has 2 screens and each room has about 40 to 50 seats
It is so small when they open the door to enter the theater the screen flushs out as the light enters the room
I only went here cause VIP was loaded with losers that night and I wanted to see the Passion of Christ. What a great movie !!!!!
I will knot be coming back to this place unless the girl pays

Update and further details:
Note that about 80% of the movies shown in Tijuana are spoken in English, with Spanish subtitles.
Wednesdays at most theaters are 1/2 price.
After about 6 pm on Wed's, Fri's, Sat's, Sun's, and holidays the theaters are crowded worse than AB is on Sat. nights: most screening rooms have lines outside them 100 feet long. You must be in one of those lines about 30 minutes in advance of the scheduled start of a movie to have a chance of getting a seat that most people would call "good". Between about 6 - 10 pm, most movies sell out. Things slow down a bit earlier on Sun. nights.
My Spanish is not up to getting much out of the movie "sinopsis." To get that in English, and reviews, Google the title of the movie.
Here is the link to the Omnimax Theater at the CECUT in the Zona Rio (the link posted above does not work, at least, for me):
http://cecut.gob.mx/
At that same web site is a link to the "Cine en Video," on the left side of the Homepage. These videos (DVD's) are usually of rock 'n' roll bands, with the lyrics in spoken English, without Spanish subtitles. Cost is only 20 pesos. Time is 8 pm on Mondays. I get the impression a person could have them schedule a requested playing of a concert DVD.
The video room is in the north end of the large, rectangular building that is about 100 feet to the east of the Omnimax "ball."
Just above that link to the video room is a link to free movies for kids, also shown in the same movie. I've enjoyed a couple of flicks there with a young lady and her daughter. Here are some details:
Cine Club Infantil [not just for infants, but geared to kids in general][It seems that all of the "children's movies" in Mexico are spoken in Spanish. Why the adults put up with subtitles is beyond me - TV shows are usually dubbed in].
Ciclo [Series]: Los romances más bellos [that is, during Feb., '06].
Sábado y domingo [Sat. and Sun.] 12:00, 2:00 y 4:00 p.m.
Sala de Video.
Entrada libre.
There is a new movie theater a few blocks from Tijuana's beaches (Playas), pretty much in the north end of the Playas colonia, on the south (left) side of the main road to Playas from Centro, Paseo Playas de Tijuana. The theater is part of the Cinema Star chain, and thus, its info can be accessed via the link you posted to that chain, www.cinemastar.net/ To get a particular theater, click on "Selecciona tu Ciudad," then click on, say, Tijuana. Below this "selecciona" section you will need to click on "selecciona una sucursal [branch office]," then click on Otay [Mesa] or Playas.
I seem to recall that a Libre from Centro to Playas cost only about $5, but I usually get a collectivo (ruta), yellow in color, on about 4th street and about 3 blocks west of Revo.
Here is a direct link to the Cinepolis chain of four locations Tijuana. Just scroll down the page to find the different theater and movie listings:
http://www.cinepolis.com.mx/Asp/Cartelera/carteleras.aspx?ciudad=44&fecha=20051228&horario=0
There was a portion of Cinepolis's site that would give you the summary in English, cinepolis.com.mx/Asp/sinopsis.asp
but I can not get it to work.
The Cinepolis in the south end of Plaza Rio (that is, the multicinemas, or multiplex, about 12 rooms) often has one or two "Cama'ra Independiente," movies which may never make it to the U.S. I've seen movies that were on Tuvalu (A very small island nation north of Fiji)(and bizarrely, the movie had nothing to do with the islands), Cuba before Castro, and the Ukraine. But by no means are all these movies heavily geography-oriented. I don't know the link, but last month I was able to get an advance schedule for this type of movies for about two months ahead. A link would be appreciated.
A guy who speaks English well at that theater and has been quite helpful is named Miguel.
The Cinepolis refund policy is to let you see another movie, even on another day, if you let them know within 30 minutes of the start of the movie that you do not like the movie you bought the ticket for. I have had managers scrawl on the back of my ticket, long after that 30 minutes. Months later, I finally got around to using it. Rather to my surprise, it was accepted without difficulty.
Cinepolis multiplexes (but not VIP) also has a frequent viewers' discount card. Strangely, it must be purchased, about $3. It accumalates value, not only with movies, but concession stand purchases. I would like feedback as to whether it is worthwhile. Most other theaters have such cards, but free. Why don't las chicas use such cards?
Cinepolises (Cinepoli?) (both multiplexes and VIP's) have storage rooms for coats, bags, etc.
The Cinepolis VIP is also in Plaza Rio, in the middle of the mall.
I once had occasion for the personnel at the VIP to deliver my food order to my seat, without expecting a tip. I think it was when the order took longer than usual to make.
I have often watched the last movie, starting at 10:50 pm in Plaza Rio, and bicycled or caught a Libre back to the border. I seem to recall the Libres run about $3-5, and the same price to La Coahuila. I get across in time to get the last trolley north at 12:59 am (the one before that is at 12:29); Sunday mornings, it also leaves at 1:59, 3:59 (NOT at 2:59), 4:59 (the "first" departure on Sat. and Sun. mornings), 5:29, etc. (Mon. - Fri, the "first" trolley leaves at 4:44am). Schedule link: http://sdcommute.com/Rider_Information/trolley/trolleyMap.asp
If I were to miss the last trolley, I'd either pay for a taxi to Chula Vista (about $18 if I don't split it, which I usually can, just by waiting until someone else comes along going past there), or, usually preferable, go to La Coahuila or an all-night internet café.
To help in locating some of these theaters, and for other purposes, I just posted a link to an excellent street map of Tijuana's Zona Rio, and Centro, at: Club Hombre/Topics/Tijuana/Tijuana for Newbies (the third item on the list).
Scrolling shortly before that post, in Tl8's post of maps on March 18, 2002, Map #two shows the CECUT in the upper left corner. Plaza Rio (a shopping mall) is to the southeast, across Ave. Independencia, and is #73 on that map. And, most Libre drivers know these theaters.
Un mil gracias, Tl8, for the excellent posts on movies and maps.

the vip theatres are great at plaza rio, much better than the regular theatre. It does get packed here and people that frequent the place do not act frugal with their pesos....ordering well drinks, sushi, etc. They are also not shy about pda. couples are making out and cuddling everywhere, it's because each seat is huge, more like a couch that reclines. you totally fell separated from the couple to either side of you.
